@Skyjackful We had to put a new/used engine in it, but we were thinking it was the rod bearings that got shot from the antifreeze that got in the motor from a bad gasket.
One thing I found out about the engines online from knocking is they used a short skirt piston on these trucks which are notorious for making noise. Like I said I never got to the absolute bottom of it. I wanted to know out of curousity but when I arrived at the dealer ship my engine was tore down to a million diffrent small parts. Crazy thing about the 4.3 they had it right before they went to the retarded reversing balancing shaft which is why the aftermarket had avoided the 4.3 liter.
Though I got a new engine cause there were about 100 diffrent things that went wrong with my truck before the engine went out. The transmission blew up from runnnig hot which the oil and transmission fluid mixed together. The fixed that and the engine blew right head gasket and they fixed that then the left blew out and they fixed that. Then something else happen which I dont remember and finally the knock started right after warranty went out. Though it runs great now with all new stuff.
I had a issue like that and thought it was maybe a bad lifter or valve lash improperly adjusted. So I bought all new lifters and re did the valves and it still had a clicking noise when I was all done. I did notice that the reversing balancing shaft was lose and had play in it. I checked for a recall and it turned out there is a recall on the reversing balancing shaft guid chain. Though I cant say for sure cause I called the head office of GM and they decided to go ahead and give me a new engine
@Davydude7 not really, just had to get a new engine since it was so bad. they said it could run for months or die next week so we drove it easy and it didnt die,but it was cheaper to buy a new/used engine with under 75,000 miles, but it could be a rocker or a rod
@TheWooR6 I appreciate the quick reply. I just put a bunch of money into the rusted fuel system, but I think I am done dumping money into this thing. I knew it wasn't a good sound as soon as I heard it.
@Davydude7 no problem, now we are working on getting a new catalytic converter since the original one has come apart inside. its like once you fix one thing something else brakes lol. and good luck with your blazer...
yep i got mine redon and the rocker nuts can only be uses once or twice or else the self locking nut dosnt self lock and backs off, they put new ones on and its been fa quiet smooth runner
That simple bro...All it is, is rocker noise. Who ever re-built your heads when putting them back on and adjusting the rocker arms messed up and one or some are loose. Watch my vids on my channel...I re-built my heads on my K5.
hey i have the same issue with my 4.3 in my 86 monte ppl keep telling me its the bearings the rods and mains and a lifters if you guys find the issue please let me know kinda scared to drive my car far because of breaking down
mine is knocking too and i just put new vales in it any ideas

The 4.3L engines suck. Way to many problems. You should drop a 4.0L in the blazer.

@montekels86 probably coz the overheating that the engine has been through, the knocking is coming probably from the rings or the valves.
