I agree here I don't like putting people down and if you are doing your thing great but don't use the name Daito Ryu on this. Karate guys wouldn't want a Daito Ryu guy claiming Karate and vice versa etc etc. Don't claim a name if you aren't doing it.
These dudes dont train realistically you need more randori with real punches, kicks, and takedowns. Alot of traditional guys have a rude awakening when they get into a real fight. I train in Shizen Ryu aiki jiujitsu it has its roots in Daito Ryu the purpose is combat effectiveness and practicallity.Sokoku Takeda would be rolling over in his grave watching this.
wolverine198122 was right. This person has no aiki technique. He is so stiff and doesn`t blend at all with his uchi. There is no aikijujitsu in this clip.
That was NOT Daito-ryu. That WAS terrible. Full of ego, too. It's stuff like this that makes me so grateful to be a part of a group of people that know what they're doing (unlike this guy). He's a decent technician, but it lacks precision and elegance, both of which are a big part of Daito-ryu.
Yes Staphon, I agree, I am 20yr member of Daitoryu Takumakai here in Osaka..many people delete my comments here so beware. I know of few Senseis in west that are true Daitoryu but not many. greetings from Japan.
I saw a lot of aikido and Western-style jujutsu but not much Daitoryu. I wonder where the guy learned his Daitoryu...for example, Daitoryu doesn't use large circular movements - that's aikido.
I've seen this video before somewhere else. I'm not sure, but perhaps this sensei was just trying to show how effective his art is on spontaneus attacks (not pre-arranged). He could also be trying to make sure that his students knew who the boss is. I don't know...
This is the first time I see Daito Ryu performed like this, is it Sport Daito ? or Brazilian Karate Jutsu? why does the teacher give the impression that he is in a hurry, looks like he is sparring a Karate kumite!!
Why are there so many martial artists who are pompous, arrogant and disrespectful on the internet? You would think practitioners of an art where a fundamental concept is respect would behave differently.
My club is Daito Ryu Aiki JJ but we don't do it exclusively. Sometimes we do things like this.
trust me.one of the senseis was checking falls on a student doing his white belt test..the sensei did a kochi nage and wow.... it was really fast and unexpected a nage i never seen before... maybe the sensei was confident the student would brake the fall .. but no he was wrong..the guy landed on his shoulder dislocating it.....so dont critizice man aiki jujutsu is not a sport like aikido.. plus .... maybe this sensei was just trying to teach them how to escape ever thought of that?
well he does seem to be choppy on somethings.but guys keep in mind.if aiki jujutsu were to really be used those student wouldnt be walking out of there. the student have to learn to adapt themselves to the techniques and falls.
this is a hacked up version of aiki-based techniques that someone decided to use to make up a school..
ive seen few people who attend aikido seminars and try to learn few techniques and take it back into their dojo to integrate and form their own "style"...most of these techniques lose their effectiveness because they don't pay attention to the details (particularly the footwork and the posture)
i can't comment on the effectiveness, but it certainly isnt daito-ryu nor aikido
I no not much about Aikido, When performing Daitoryu from Shizentai you must have your feet close together, not wide, for turning your hips creates the circle, if wide, stepping creates a oval, which doesnt create aiki, your oppent can step away. This is secret in Daitoryu. Yet Kihon no waza.
No this is not aikido. Some similarities may be seen but still, not Aikido. Possibly a style of Daito ryu you are not familiar with, Dojocho? At least I'm pretty sure it's not any kind of Aikido.
This is not Daitoryu..More like Aikido, there is no branch of Takada's Aiki that is Named Goshin..They also spelled Sensei wrong at the start of clip. Tori's feet are to far apart to perform Aiki. I train Daitoryu Takumakai here in Osaka 20 yrs....
I slightly disagree. Aikido is very passive, and appears most of the time to be more of a dance. This video could be a system based Aikijujitsu, although not perfect. Goshin could be the name of the dojo.
But then again you have way more knowledge on this being that you are an actual student of Daitoryu.
That is definitely not Aikido... And I would be surprised if that was Daito ryu as well. Some technics are nice, but I have to say I am not a big fan of the way he does them.
Hi-ya, anyone think martial arts look silly the way people hav eto dress up?

this isn't Daito ryu

This kinda looks like Takeda Ryu Aiki jutsu and maybe a little bit of Takumakai Daitoryu.
Question is, why call it Daitoryu at all, why not aki no jujutsu or something?
People are hard to understand.

so what makes this Daito-ryu?
Does this guy have a kyujo dairi? Does he have current permission to use the name Daito-ryu from a kyujo dairi?
I doubt it.

wow. . . that was bad. Would people who have no idea what they are doing please stop trying to use the name "Daito ryu"? This is disgraceful.
If you want Daito Ryu watch the Kondo or Okamoto vids.

If that really happend, this sensei is a morron and doesn't absolutely know reigisaho.
A serious sensei would have never hurt a white belt, that's so easy...
I think it was just to show how he is experienced.
What a shame !
