  • I've seen an SR swapped into a Hachi Roku when I lived in Japan. It's actually quite common. However!!! Not with this much horsepower. My goodness. He kept screaming about how loud it wasn inside but that it definitely wasn't a Hachi Roku anymore (for those that don't speak Japanese). This car is super light so I agree that it would smash holes in cars with more power and weight.

  • I just bought an 85 model. Completely gutting it and dropping in a 4agze, with turbo set up. I can't freaking wait.

    And for those of you that don't know, a 600hp AE86 (stock weight) is the equivalent of a 890hp Supra, a 1015hp GTO, a 850hp Corvette, or a 920hp Skyline.

    That's ridiculous.

  • I will doing something close to this but I will be using a LA1 engine with 600hp/tq but I always thought you would need a roll cage to keep the frame from flexing. Can anyone here tell me what they did to get around this, it would be nice to keep everything intact on the inside.

    rivets is something I havent thought of. thanks for the idea. Not an LS1. The LA1 is a 90degree V6 3.4 it comes out of a chevy lumina mostly. I'll be sure to take video of it when its done. It'll also be themed after Domo-kun

  • @deliverydrifter if you don't mind me asking, why that engine? it strikes me as odd choice...no offence. that heavy engine would throw the weight balance off...not to mention the rear end..curious to see that might fit up

    its not that heavy. with a little effort i can carry it around the garage myself with little to no aid at all. the orginal 4ag feels heavier than the LA1 plus with with the power to weigth ratio its a very strong motor with lots of aftermarket aplications

  • the roll cage is used for safty use in case ur car flips the thing u need to reinforce are ur axels and upgrade ur suspension to keep that from happening

    i have a 9" rearend coming in that will be adjustable for drag or drift and a whole lot of heavy duty suspension parts being made. i will be useing chromoly tubing for the roll cage just for the sake of safety and for frame support

  • I was referring to the "NA all the way" statement.

    On the "to much power issue, this is clearly a drag car. agreed to much power can make a small car hard to handle but that all depends on what sort of power delivery it has + suspension setup.

    And with a small car you don't need this sort of power (unless you got that crazy streak about you) due to the strong power to weight ratiio. the tin block & fire thing is news to me. Here in Oz the SR is very popular, Its all about how well you build.

  • Not much use putting a big motor in such a small car. You kill the weight distribution and for the best driving experience, weight distribution is an extremely important factor. better off stick with the 4 cylinder and tune it accordingly.. Plus the SR's can put out more than enough power for a car this size ^^. I personally prefer the straight 6 exhaust note though

  • Yea man their nuts I heard of a swap from a diff tuner a while ago dont know if its true but I think it was a 89 CRX with a JDM NSX C30? motor with twin turbos with velocity stacks in the front then rwd it' once again dont know but if so thats some serious pwr-to-weight.

  • 600ps is about 585hp. They aren't the same. For example, Bugatti Veyron is 1001ps which is 987hp

  • why an SR20DET is my question.. not hating, just wondering.. i mean so many other choices would have worked better like a 20B would be nice. Its extremely light and would produce high power n/a with good throttle response and no boost lag. Also its not very aerodynamic, bad choice on that part

  • The 240sx (USDM) come with a KA18E or KA18DE engine depending on model.

    The Japanese versions (Silvia S14, S15) either have a SR20DE or SR20DET depending on model. The Silvia S13 had CA18DE, CA18DET, SR20DE and SR20DET models.

    I believe the first USDM car to have an SR20DET was the Nissan NX2000.

    They are commonly swapped in 240sx though, because they have higher hp and torque output at a low cost.

    Both are Nissan engines, if that is what you were asking. I hope this helped :)

  • its ka24e and de for usdm models, and ka24's are really good motors too, just the aftermarket love is bad cause they only came out in the U.S in alot of cars and not in japan, more of a tuck motor in japan. i remeber yashio factory importing a 240sx to make performance parts for the U.S, but the KA went, and they just put an sr in it LoL
