Hi. Aprox by the year 2020 a laptop will reach the human brain potential for processing data which means that there is a huge market waiting for hundreds of billions dollars to be sold or invested in humanoid robots and intelligent systems and the beginning of the bigger industry ever maid in human history. Search on Google luisbeck007 you will find the most complete humanoid robot list in the World, good information and interesting issues.
she look as if she is on a pole under the dress to keep her from falling. i believe that is still one of their barriers they cant seem to get through just yet fine moter skills such as walking.
Ive seen the chinese dances before. Its all in the hands which she cant move. Your supposed to take your hands and they have chinese signs such as shy excited and stuff and you put your hand in front of your face and do it but she cant because her hands are plastic and also feet are a part of the dance they should have though about that before they made a robot that just moves her waist and arm like shes trying to swat a fly
lol it does look like she's swatting a fly, but i must say that's pretty impressive they could get technology so far. probably a hundred years from now they will be laughin at how primative our attempts at robots were.
All of its Its legs cannot move because they haven't really be able to get the Actroid to be able to stand on it's own yet; it has very limited motor functions. Actually it's supported by a pole in the back, and all computing is actually done externally through wires that connect to the "body." It IS a robot, and can react to things, like when it sees people. However, many of its actions are currenly preprogrammed for demonstration purposes. She was created in 2006. :)
This right here is why im not worried about robots overtaking the human race. This thing could never compare to the beauty that is created by a dancer put all their soul and energy into a dance. Even if they could make the robots moves precise and perfect it wouldnt FEEL anything and consequently neither would the audience. You can feel that type of energy being shared between a performer and their audience. Its what gives you goosebumps or moves you to tears. That thing is not gonna do it.
saxsupersax1, cartoon characters are merely ink and paper, so therefore, they are incapable of actually "feeling" anything. Dispite this, they are able to make us laugh and cry.
And what is the driving force behind a cartoon character? A human voice. With its suble nuances, highs and lows, that are used to portray the cartoon character is supposed to feel. Do you know when they make cartoons they watch person as they are recording and use those same movements in the animation for the character. So it is the human force, that visceral energy behind the animation that moves us.
saxsupersax1, please provide a source. What about the cartoon characters that do not talk? They have no voice actors, so therefore, there is nobody in the booth to observe.
If an animator can make ink and paper come to life, a choreographer can make metal come to life.
How about the little mermaid, bambi, beauty and the beast, the lion king. Yes there have been characters that do not speak and still we love them. Like Dopey from snow white and the seven dwarfs. But his movements and reactions to every thing around him are based off of human movements and reactions.Lately they have been coming out with characters that do not speak at all. Like wall-e.I havent seen it but im sure even though he is a robot I bet he's still has human reactions.
Answer this question first can you program something to feel? Can you program something to have dreams and aspirations and put blood sweat and tears into something it really wants? The last time I checked no one in the world has technology that advanced. You can how ever program something to be technical and efficient. The cartoon itself isnt feeling emotions. The cartoon is programmed to move and speak in according to what it would if it were a real person. I saw another android video...
saxsupersax1, I wasn't talking about making the android autonomous and choreographing its own dances. I was taking about it being essentially a marionette.
Ok. Would it put on a novel show? Definitely. But my initial point was that it will not replace true human emotion which you disagreed with. Technology will ultimately be our downfall and people who aspire to see these things replace the real thing dont really know what they are saying. They are saying that they would like us to be totally dependent on technology and to have it someday surpass the human race. I think technology is great. But lets not get carried away with it.
...on youtube. The android smiled and blinked and spoke and answered questions as she was addressed by the audience. And you know what she was looked borderline creepy with her blank stare and cold smile. All im saying is this thing will never replace true human emotion. Thats a good thing. Why someone would actually want that is beyond me. You seem pretty anxious for it to happen how about explaining why you would rather see a robot who is simply programmed than see a person who has worked...
...hard and practiced their craft for years and let them share that with you and the audience. I play saxophone and I would hate for one day all the muscians in the world to be out of a gig because of a robot that has been programmed play. Ive heard these robots and theyre square. Technical and efficient? Definitely. But would I pay $10 to go in a club and hear them play? Hell no.
When a robot (such as Actroid or loveable little Asimo) actually turns its attention to you and looks at you, it's almost impossible for most people not to interact with it just a little...
Yes, I agree. When you see a robot do a beautiful dance, you don't say "Wow, she's really talented" or "I wish I was more like her". A real dancer can show emotion. A robot is fake with man-made emotions. Instead, when you see a robot dance you say "Woah, that's some amazing technology!" I'm a robot lover myself. I know I sound like an idiot, but...
Glorified animatronic. When these things can walk on their own, negotiate obstacles, and actually do something constructive besides getting dressed up and flailing their arms then I'll be impressed.

No I proved MY point that it is the human emotion behind these characters that makes them lovable and makes us respond to them.

saxsupersax1, explain to me why that same human emotion cannot be put into metal.
From my point of view, with enough technology,
animating metal = animating polygons = animating ink.
