  • this was pretty sick. thanks for that. and jsyk i'm mixed with black and pilipino too

  • what was the criteria for making the video? just curious because i have to make a video soon for my speech class..this was for school right?

  • @efan4evr For this video, I didn't have any criteria. The teachers let me do what I wanted, but I asked for help & advice each step of the way. Good luck !

  • "Justify your own goddamn existence." Haha- Love it!

I relate to this video so much it's scary. Great work!

  • this was fucking amazing on many levels. All of the weird comments from both friends and even family.I've actually been called and Oreo by my family.@ 3:50 what she says is exactly how i feel to this day.I'd rather be alone than deal with the pressures of doing the "shifting" To please others.Unfortunately this is something tht black ppl hate because they would finally except me if i "Act more black" and Less like a "mixed up and confused crazy mixed girl"

  • @kaliyuta Thanks for your comment ! I'm glad it resonated & made it possible for us to relate to each other. And don't worry; eventually you'll find a solid group who won't mistake you for a "confused crazy mixed girl" :D

  • Well done! As a mom of a multi-ethnic daughter & a grad student working on a multi-cultural project, this was very helpful. It was insightful to see the world through a teenage girls pt of view. You deserved the "A" in philosophy!

  • @bray62625 I don't think I ever responded to your comment...thanks for watching, and I'm glad I could provide a teeny bit of insight for your grad project ! If you don't mind keeping me informed of how your project goes, I'd love it. Thanks for watching :)

  • Very well said.

  • LOl you're so right!

If highschool turns out to be the best years of our lifes we're screwed! I sure would be!

Cool film overall, did you make this as a school documentary about yourself?

  • Yes : ) It was my senior final. We were going to do a narrative, but I decided to make it a bit more experimental.

    Thanks !

  • I loved it. Great job!

  • Sweet! I like the whole way you compiled it, very cool. Thanks for posting this to our YouTube world, I like it when people prove the fact that they have substance and intellect. Cause we all do.(:

  • Thank you for this comment ! It's true; YouTube masses are massively inept...but there are still a few good ones around : ) Take care !

  • this video always makes me think

and i do believe it should have more views than it does, because i think people need to think about things more thoroughly.

    :)

  • I love this video...the perfect compilation and I love the sugar water analogy. :)

  • can you say days of MY LIFE! lol i am syrian, native american, black and mexican

  • It doesn't matter if you're half black and half asian, i think you're very beautiful anyway ;$

  • This really hit home for me. Thank you for this video.

    ^_^

  • I love this video!

Especially about men, I can really relate..haha

    This was pretty genius.

Actually, I can really relate to everything you said.

And sugar water is a greattt song.

  • BEAUTIFUL VIDEO! Thank you for posting it!

  • wow is all i can say. i can comment on so many points that you made in this video but i would have to fill in this comment box like 4 times! anyways, just BRILLIANT video, every word spoke to my heart. thanks alot :)

  • fantastic

  • both my parents are black,im black, people always ask me what are u.if u want to be mixed your choice but if your tellin folks that to be treated(different)u a sellout!!!

  • @goldynhuni

Why is that always the comment from a black person? Why is a biracial a 'sell out' if they aren't being 'black enough' as you want them to be? You guys need to stop spreading your poison...Thank goodness multi-racials are growing! :)

  • @exotiq88 Many blacks simply don't like biraciality and biracial people.

Many of them can't even acknowledge biraciality-they insist on labeling biracials as blacks.

As someone who is biracial who has done some research on this topic, I have gotten e-mails and comments from Black/white biracials treated like crap by black people.

Some of this may stem from the light-dark dilemma in that community.

It seems like there is no engagement or dialogue with blacks on this issue-they wont budge.

  • @MultiSmartass1 AS IF YOU KNOW THE BLACK COMMUNITY. AS IF BLACK PEOPLE ARE A MONOLITH. LOL! MAYBE IF PEOPLE LIKE YOU, WHO HAVE NO CLUE, WOULD LEAVE PEOPLE ALONE, THERE WOULD BE FEWER PROBLEMS EVERY WHERE IN THE WORLD.

  • @dginki Apparently, you didn't read the post.

I stated "many blacks" don't like biracials not all blacks.

Your syntax is poor "as if black people are a monolith." That should read monolithic.

Your point makes no logical sense since the discrimination that biracials face from blacks have nothing to do with the problems of the world as a whole.

You have a naive view of the world. Grow up.

  • @MultiSmartass1 It seems you are the one who needs to grow up. You are a joke and thats why people dislike you. Not because you are biracial or multiracial. You are just a sad joke. Too damn ignorant to admit that you really don't know black people. Pathetic.

  • @dginki I think you are on the wrong forum.

This is a forum about biracial and multiracial concerns-if you aren't one of us or you simply dont like us maybe you should go elsewhere.

As I stated quite clearly, I have recieved a number of e-mails and messages from biracial people who have told me they have treated badly, harshly, even cruelly by blacks.

I do not live amongst black people or in a black neighborhood so they have no opinion of me.

Next time, check the facts before you rant.

  • @MultiSmartass1 I fail 2 understand y Black-Americans dnt accept u 4 who u arE,things are so different here in South Africa.SA consists of 4 race groups:Blacks,Whites,Coloureds(mixed race) and Indians.I'm 100% Black but i have Coloured friends, the small town th@ i come from has both races living in perfect peace in their respective neighbourhoods,i think 2 strength their cultures and identity especially Coloureds who r small in numbers. If a Black & a White person hv a child it belongs 2 the C rc

  • @bkayify I think you misunderstand.

I have recieved e-mails and comments from Bi-racials who have told me about their experiences with Black people.

I have never gone through such experiences myself because I didnt grow up amongst them so I frankly dont care if black people like me or not. I dont live around them now so again- no big deal for me..

As for South Africa, keep in mind mixed race people have always been acknowledged there and contitute a firm voting bloc in SA not in the US.

  • @MultiSmartass1 My question is y Blacks in America hv a problem accepting a Coloured(mixed) person acknowledging themselves as such when th@ is the person's true identity? I always read th@ Coloured Americans r given a hard time by Black Americans especially when they say proudly th@ they r Coloured(mixed).I'm asking 4 those th@ r like u who xperience prejudices from Blacks unlike u,dnt u think u cn do sumthing 2 help instead o being "i dnt live amongst them so i dnt care"- they r ur kind !

  • @bkayify Well, I dont know what to tell you. I never grew up amongst Black people so I never faced the kind of anger and discrimination that biracials elsewhere did.

When I started getting comments on youtube and e-mails from biracials who told me they were treated badly by blacks, I was surprised-I didnt know about this growing up.

Frankly, I dont know what I can do to help. iam not a celebrity like Hines Ward. I cant change people hearts and minds toward biracials.

  • I absolutley love this video. Very well put. Very Organized and abstract. As well as Ultra creative. You seem to understand your existance and you don't let your race define who you are.

  • good job!

  • :) awesome video.

  • great video!!

  • im going to have my cousins to look at your video becuase thay are that same as you and call thierselfs niggaphinos my son calls hiself that too,

  • i do believe this is my favorite video of yours, if not on the whole youtube site.

    =]

it just makes a whole lot of sense.

  • I have had that questions asked so many times .What are you? Im Me i respond because im white black, native american ,middleeastern im not other what is that?So i always reply im ME case close.

  • I admire you.

  • races are best mixed when they are the farthest apart, such as black and white, or japanese and black, or white and aboriginal. when you mix identical races such as scottish and irish, you get a generic european. same holds for other nationalities.

  • so what are y trying to say that certain mixes are better than others sounds just as racist as anyone that believes people shouldn't mix

  • Japanese, Scottish, and Irish aren't races, genius... those would be nationalities.

And what are talking about? Certain racial and ethnic mixes are better than others? I don't think that's a good road to go down.

  • Scottish & Irish are both ethncities that are BOTH considered "white" and European therefore the children of such unions are not what we call "biracial".

  • geeze. this is amazing! ...the first 10 minute video I've actually watched from beginning to end. you did this in high school? im looking forward to checking out your other videos:)

  • Beyond Excellent!

  • excellent vid!

  • Very very, Intelligent! I Admire your personality, and your mindset. I only wish I could make wonderful videos. You are doing a great job.

  • i know this is ancient and i already commented on it... but, gosh, was it really this dramatic to be mixed? i don't think my son even realizes he's mixed, except in some abstract intellectual kind of way, probably similar to me realizing i have some cherokee in me

  • :) No it's not this dramatic but you have to make things interesting for film or else no one will watch it. I picked highlights of my life which I thought would get a message across.

We never realize anything until someone points it out. I realized it early because people would always say "you're so cute, what are you ?" and I would be very confused as a five year old.

  • aw youre parents are sooooooo cuteee

    lol

    yeah

and overall, this is pretty good (Y)

  • I never really thought about my bi-raciality until watching this ^_^

  • I saw this film at the film festival today. It was my absolute favorite so I decided to find it on youtube you tell you that.

  • "Who Are You" ONE beatiful Women

  • im here too. :D

  • I'm in this video :)

  • good job:)

  • nah, i see you like yourself. but seriously, you need to stay awake and night and find out what strange bigoted stalker is leaving those post it notes

  • Funny enough, this kind of started out as one of those ''we dont have any idea what kind of film we want to make for our final, lets just use this throw-away script'' kind of projects. haha I was really uncomfortable editing myself...I could do it when I was making a fool out of myself, but not when I'm [relatively] serious.

Haha. I wanted to cut the entire post-it scene out...but one of my teacher's ended up really liking it and in the end so did I :)

    -b

  • i'm sure you must be right, but filipinas that i've known have used the F. why can't i just finish watching your video before i comment?

  • who stuck all these mean post-it notes up at your house?
