im not trying to pick a fight here, but i can't be the only one who see's the irony of a band that is the pride of the south playing a song that includes the battle hymn of the republic
I'm from Alabama, it's a shame they messed with Ole Miss like they did, the tradition is gone. i root for Ole Miss, Go Rebs, in my heart they will all ways be the Rebs. They need to fight to bring back this song, it's always been tradtion to play at all the games.
I can afford to fly you out here to prove that point my friend, we can sit and have some coffee and discuss how people insult and say thing while hiding behind their nicotine stained CRT;s living off their parents while in college. Or in your case living out your fantasy of being someone. Kind of funny to see you here instead of the kiddi porn sites you normally go to. Oh well, Merry Christmas!
@lighterhead The Internet is a good thing, but punks like you hide behind it after making an asinine remark. It amuses me that pathetic trolls like you finally have a way to get yourselves off, other than what you normally do with your sister.
@JudischerWolfsmench I removed my previous comment because you apparently spent 36 years in the Navy or something. Which would mean I'm arguing with an old man. Next time, know who ruined our song. It wasn't "they" as in the band. It was dumbass kids and fans who can't listen to a simple rule.
Yeah, it's by audition. The director's name is Mr. Wilson. Give the band hall a call. They'll hook you up with some tickets to a game and will provide the info. you're looking for.
I still can't believe that they don't play slow dixie at the graduation ceremony. Instead, everybody has to say the alma mater that nobody knows. Even if they can't get the real band to play it, just play it over the speakers. Anyway, good video.
Not slow dixie. "From Dixie With Love." They had been playing it for a long time when joined the band in 1982. It's really good to hear it again. I miss the old riverboat gambler uniforms--I guess times change.
Right on. I miss the old Riverboat Gambler uniforms. Made the Ole Miss Band stick out among the pack. Today's uniforms look like a HS band... I was a drummer in the UM Band. Stone Ground 7 lives...
As a former member of The Pride of the South, and someone who was a member for a very long time (about 7 years in the 80s and 90s), I'm very glad to see something like this. This is an excellent video. It brings back a lot of really good memories of my time in band. Great job.
all the swac does is put own a show yeah there entertaining but when it comes to an sec school those ppl have a scolorship to a real college and fire you up way more than a swac college
I'm from Jackson, MS so I've seen the JSU Sonic Boom of the South many times. I went to Ole Miss though. All I can say is that they're just different. Both are extremely talented at what they do but have completely different styles. It's like comparing boxing to mma or rugby to american football
SWAC bands suck balls. im from jackson too and ive heard both JSU and Ole Miss and trust me Ole Miss beats SWAC by a million miles. Ole Miss plays better music while JSU dances around like Native American tribes doing a ceremonial dance while playing music. That was not intended to be racist in any way, shape, or form if it strikes you as racist. It was an analogy showing the lack of skill it takes to do what SWAC bands do
Ole Miss is blessed to have one of the BEST band directors in America, Mr. David Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was one of the directors of the MS Lions All-State band when I was a member ('83), and I remember him fondly.
If he had been at Ole Miss when I was in college, I would have attended Ole Miss instead of Delta State (which at that time had an incredible music program).
Thank you, Mr. W., for all that you have done and do for music education in Mississippi!
The "Pride of The South". Whether speaking of the Ole Miss Band, of which my San Diego native daughter is a senior member, or of the heart and soul of the people who make their home there, is the reason I give when people ask why she decided to attend Ole Miss. Great video!
I have been around Ole Miss for the better part of my 40 years. The band has been through as much upheaval as our football program has. The strongest years of the band were the 70's and early 80's. I recall when we had 2 drum majors. I also miss the old uniforms. The current uniforms look too high-schoolish. I wish we had a more powerful entry like LSU, Bama, or Auburn bands have. I would prefer the band entering the stadium right at pregame; not before. Your video is good though.
I just want to say that I'm a big rebel fan, and a huge supporter of the band. I think the effort you put into this video was great. Im going to have fun showing this to all my friends who dont understand what The Pride of the South is all about. Thanks for posting, and I look forward to seeing any other videos of the band you may put together!

@carlsonandy87 Its a mix between the classic Dixie tune and the battle hymn. Its about coming together.

i am looking at going to Ole miss as a freshman in fall 2010. Besides the law program, the band is improtant to me. Is the marching band by audition?

Very impressive! So sharp, in tune, and up beat, even with a tad bit of swing to 'em... far above your typical marching band.
