I think both have the same engine type/model the 1MZ-FE and mine was a JDM made Camry. The problem is with the TPS (throttle position sensor) and would sometimes lose acceleration even when the gas pedal was pressed all the way.
Toyota refused to come to me or my mechanic, I had to take my vehicle back to Claremont Toyota (bought new in 1998) and had it inspected just a month & half earlier for the same issue ("Check Engine" light off at the time but found code still stored) "Smart" team is only their to cover Toyota not to help the customer-they took pics of everything inside & out after getting my Camry back I noticed they fiddled with every electrical switch/button since several out of place and now has burning smell
why they took pics of the tires and tread and checking all the seat belts as well as wheels and other obviously not at issue items (funny they didn't care about the crap repair job West Covina Toyota did on the center vents to keep them from moving correctly). So my question to you Mr. Toyoda is you know I have owned 2 Camrys (1991 & 1998), 4 trucks (1990, 1996, 2000 & 2006) and 1 Sienna (2008) wheres my apology ? or just spreading millions $ to TV and media like BP British Petrol ?
Finally got Toyota to inspect my vehicle today, someone from their SMART Team (aka CYA ) said their legal dept would get back to me about the results, they refused to give me any information and took my vehicle to location where I could not see what they were doing. I assume they plugged into the OBD 2/II port to download the info, they also refused to tell me what if any EDR (Event Data Recorder aka "black box") was on the car or if they would be accessing it-Obviously Toyota is not helpful
This email is to inform you of the inspection process Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. (TMS) legal department will conduct based on your request. The region will contact you within 11-15 business days regarding your inspection request. If the region inspects your vehicle, the inspection will take place within 30 days and results and Toyota’s position will be mailed within 30 days after the inspection from the TMS legal department. If you have any additional questions, call..
I went to Toyota's North American Head Quarters today (July 27) they have a large campus in Torrance, CA first to their service center (guess all the employees get their cars fixed free & correctly) to find out how to file a report on my 1998 Camry & also with a brake issue on my 2006 Tacoma with 16,000 miles. Their Security then escorted me to the building where the customer service (800 number) is and had me call the 800 # downstairs in their lobby (red phone) after 1 hour + its finally filed
I live on a street with 3 other 1997-1999 Camrys -but they are 4 cylinders (would have been another V6 but that neighbor moved).
any witnesses please contact me about an accident on the 60 FWY West on May 13, 2010 approx 9:05 pm just before Grand Ave in Diamond Bar near 57 FWY South
To Toyota I live in the LA area and have a Dr. appt in Torrance (your headquarters) today I know you have these debunking teams, more than willing to make my vehicle avail to be inspected along with NHTSA (I filed a report over 1.5 months ago with no response). I also called your 800 # but got no where, and I did take this car to Claremont Toyota (where I bought it new in 1998) and they scanned showing TPS defect but I believe it also involves some part of the transmission ECT-i logic
