by calling with AKs before the flop, phil is an idiot. AK is not a hand to slow play. It would be more impressive if phil folded preflop. It only shows that you are an idiot when you call before the flop and fold after you hit top pair top kicker. Phil obviosuly didn't have a plan on what to do heading to the flop if he hit or miss the flop.

Given the way the hand was played out, it's a brilliant fold. Dunno why you said he had to no plan on the flop....given he chose to check dark and then chose to fold an turn overbet. He obviously calls a small to medium size bet...the play just dictated a fold. Dunno why you assume he plays the hand the same if the other player acts differently. He obviously assumed the dude had QQ or AA so made the fold.

This is an amazing laydown here by PHIL. I do agree with you however 4bet there with ace king is not smart and PHIL was sitting on about 50k in chips. Very good hand on both sides here.

it looks nice on TV but that wasn't too hard to lay down. Remember that hellmuth was reraised, and this guy was super confident and everybody saw it, his A-K could beat no single hand he might get reraised with when not bluffing, and since the guy was so confident, there was no chance he was bluffing. He couldn't beat AA, AK, AQ or QQ (or even the unlikely 4-x).
