This is from The Rising - Bruce wrote it after 9/11 - I understand he lost a very close friend - the whole CD is so touching and all about loss - Bruce brillent as usual.
yeah its like...not a conceptual album but its based off songs that relate to anyone who went threw some sort of emotion after or during the 9/11 attacks
Yeah well when he started it not many people in the audience really knew the song because the album had not really caught on and did not know what it was about.
austmick: I've been intrigued by the lyrics for a long time - at first I thought it was about a veteran of the irag war but he wrote it before the invasion. Not sure about 9/11: 'in a misty cloud of pink vapour' implies a headshot - no matter, it's a heart-wrenching masterpiece.
One of the least well songs on The Rising, only performed a couple of times on the 120 show tour, and yet absolutely brilliant. For the last 35 years - first album, Jan, 73 - Bruce Springsteen has been operating at a level so far above any other musician that most people are clueless. A giant for the ages walks among us.
@Anna596 Indeed the best song on the album with worlds apart, the fuse, paradise and lonesome day my other favourites. Perhaps it is hard to project live with the band as this is an acoustic version or maybe he was saddened the crowd would not just STFU!!!!!! Makes me so angry! Worst song on the album has to be lets be friends
bigtime and psatm are right jimmy. Pearl Jam's Nothingman is a completely different song from this. This is from Springsteens 'The Rising' album. Credit for liking two quality acts as Bruce and Pearl Jam though - rock at its best!
@TheDumbSwede Bruce rocks....has for forever now.....I do realize...you are 200 percent right!

A song about survivor's guilt. The point of view of a firefighter who lived through 9-11 while his brothers didn't. Nothing short of brilliant....
