@aerobique Some more facts... CO2 does not have a linear relation to temp, the relationship is logarithmic, i.e. CO2 must double for every 1 centigrade jump in temperature which means that if the current 380ppm goes to 760ppm, temperature will go up by only about 1 centigrade.
No one denies global warming. Earth has gone through hot periods (even much hooter than now) many times before and will continue to do so without our help.
While us Americans are still squabbling over whether there is a problem or not, the rest of the world is leaving us in the dust with renewable solutions. Australia has made the commitment to get off fossil fuels by 2020. China, once again, is going to be the world's supplier of solar panels. Several countries have committed to converting all their vehicles to all electric, not hybrids. How much longer do we have to wait before it's too late?

If you go to industrial areas i.e. in China, you won't believe how dirty the air is. There's no doubt of the human impact on the air, land and water there. As the earth comes out of a glacial period, CO2 is released naturally, accelerating the warming. That is why we see ice core data in which CO2 rise follows warming.
CO2 has never exceeded 300 PPM during the past 800,000 years, until now.
We humans have pumped vast amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere during that past 180 years, we now see 380 PPM. Typical highs of the past were 280 PPM.
We are driving the natural peak to an unprecedented new high, there is no doubt.
What about the midevil period from 1100-1300 AD were temps and Co2 were much higher than they are now. And vinyards flourished in England. A 100 year record keeping does not show the clear picture of the natural cylces that tkae place.

You can get this information yourself by going outside and not freezing like you would in space. Im pretty sure all scientists agree CO2 traps heat the debate while it lasted was about weather any extra would increase the heat trapped.
Your right in equal amounts methane dose cores more warming, but this is cancelled out by the shear quantity of CO2 being emitted. So there seams to be more opportunity to reduce carbon emitions but any reduction in methane will be more helpful
Certainly an atmosphere is important in keeping the Earth warm, but considering that our atmosphere is less than 300 parts per million CO2 I don't see how this heat is obviously attributed to CO2. Scientists do agree that CO2 traps heat, but, as I understand it, its an anti-logarithmic scale, such that the increase from 100 ppm to 300 ppm should only increase the temperature 1 degree. Not one degree per year, but one degree total. So my plea is still there, please show me some data.

There have been many times in earths history where the temperature has been much colder and also much WARMER than it is now: little ice age 1500AD, medieval warm period 1000AD, holocene era 8000BC. Do some research, cosmic rays, water vapour and solar winds determine earths temperature not CO2 output. Sea temperature lags behind atmospheric temperature by an avg of 400 years. He claims a CO2 rise from 280ppm pre-industrial to 380ppm, thus 1ppm per year. Lets assume a 10ppm increase, then to reach Venus's CO2 will take 100000 years. @aerobique Some more facts... CO2 does not have a linear relation to temp, the relationship is logarithmic, i.e. CO2 must double for every 1 centigrade jump in temperature which means that if the current 380ppm goes to 760ppm, temperature will go up by only about 1 centigrade.
No one denies global warming. Earth has gone through hot periods (even much hooter than now) many times before and will continue to do so without our help.

Australia has made the commitment to get off fossil fuels by 2020. China, once again, is going to be the world's supplier of solar panels. Independant research has shown that DDT is not dangerous and DDT was again approved as the only effective treatment against malaria mosquitos. Mainstream could easily be wrong! I believe in climate change since it was taught at my uni. But the two-sided debate itself is counterproductive.
If you go to industrial areas i.e. in China, you won't believe how dirty the air is. There's no doubt of the human impact on the air, land and water there. That should be the focus here and that alone should be a cryout for cleaner energy. I'm afraid the whole debait here is only prolonging the problems that the pollution undoubtedly does cause.The focus is in the wrong things!

As the earth comes out of a glacial period, CO2 is released naturally, accelerating the warming. That is why we see ice core data in which CO2 rise follows warming.
CO2 has never exceeded 300 PPM during the past 800,000 years, until now.
We humans have pumped vast amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere during that past 180 years, we now see 380 PPM. Typical highs of the past were 280 PPM.
We are driving the natural peak to an unprecedented new high, there is no doubt.

What about the midevil period from 1100-1300 AD were temps and Co2 were much higher than they are now. And vinyards flourished in England. A 100 year record keeping does not show the clear picture of the natural cylces that tkae place.

Al Gore dose not care about the enviroment, he cares about Carbon Tax and propaganda. His average energy bill for just one of his houses is over $1100 monthly, when it could be geothermal and solar powered.

I believe you can trust his facts, and if you don't like the facts being provided through him there are many experts you can get this same information from. Exageration in times shown or not, this is a serious dilema and it is real. Take your first step and buy some non-incandescent light bulbs. Stop pointing out flaws and do something.

so, if al gore has presented this slide show 2000 times in the past two years, that would mean that he had to have shown it at least 2.75 times per day, every day, including weekends, and holidays for the past two years. Something tells me, he is not doing this. If he exaggerates the amount of times he has shown the slide show, can we really trust his representation of "the facts". If so, why has great brittian banned his documentary in its public schools?

President Obama made a pledge today to put into place laws which limit carbon emissions. Let us see how these go, they promise employment, cleaner, more efficient, sane energy production. Sustainable growth is easy! if only we can rid ourselves of the rich's disgusting greed at the troff, and their superstitious dogmas which plague us today. By the way does anyone have any information saying CO2 causes global warming? It seems more likely that it would be attributed to methane (which still makes it human caused mostly, but severely changes our solutions).

You can get this information yourself by going outside and not freezing like you would in space. Im pretty sure all scientists agree CO2 traps heat the debate while it lasted was about weather any extra would increase the heat trapped.
Your right in equal amounts methane dose cores more warming, but this is cancelled out by the shear quantity of CO2 being emitted. So there seams to be more opportunity to reduce carbon emitions but any reduction in methane will be more helpful

Certainly an atmosphere is important in keeping the Earth warm, but considering that our atmosphere is less than 300 parts per million CO2 I don't see how this heat is obviously attributed to CO2. Scientists do agree that CO2 traps heat, but, as I understand it, its an anti-logarithmic scale, such that the increase from 100 ppm to 300 ppm should only increase the temperature 1 degree. Not one degree per year, but one degree total. So my plea is still there, please show me some data.

It is a fact that the republicans have been far less receptive to regulating emissions than have the democrats. The w/cheney admin was a prime example of that.
Major changes came in 2660 and 2008. At least now we're headed in the right direction. Let's hope we get to sustainability before too many suffer needlessly.

The logic here is paper thin. Gore argues rises in sea level of several feet if this continues, yet, he then shows HALF an ice shelf gone. Yep, that's half of Greenland gone you guys see according to his slides.
So half of what he says will take place should already have taken place. The beach houses are still standing folks.
Even if it's seasonal, would you be able to live on or enjoy the beach if it rose and fell by several feet per year?

Snerkable is wrong. Both hemispheres are in big trouble. CO2 levels in the atmosphere are climbing and soon will be double it's highest ever amount.
People get your head out of your ass. If the pump that makes the global, deep, cold water, currents move shuts off, our ability to grow food and have clean water will be cut to insufficient levels. We will see poverty and death that makes our current recession look like paradise. It will happen to US, the people living now.

First of all, agnostic here. There's no such thing as an Atheist. All atheists are just agnostics. If an atheist saw definate proof of god he would surely change his worldview.
Second. I'd have no problem with Al Gore being the face of taking care of the planet if he'd acknowledge the real problem. Too many people. We need about 3 billion less instead of counting on technology to keep up.
2-3 generations of 1 child per couple would acheive that. Worldwide. Pipe dream mainly.

So if I showed a slide show that depicted snow in L.A. and then said it has never snowed in L.A. in over 30 years, and then said we're in for a global ice age would you believe me? No. Same with the arctic, gosh it had one bad year, and yes the past few years it's been getting warmer - but what about the southern hemisphere where most of the ice is concentrated? It's actually been expanding in the past 30 years.

don't you feel something strange when Al Gore is speaking? it's like---what is he talking about afterall? it's like bla bla and preaching! and showing the ice melting isn't proving it's caused by humans. temperatures were much warmer in the middle ages, and much colder in the 17th century. that's natural, random variations--and we don't know if it's the sun or other factors within earth itself. we don't really know. that's why it's ot a top priority. CO2 doesn't affect the warming that much.

In the 1970s people believed that there was going to be global cooling because there were increasingly cool simmers and very cold winters for the past thirty years (remind you of anything).
Al Gore refuses debate on climate change even you people cannot deny that that is extremely good evidence. Al Gore says that every scientist believes in Global Warming yet 12 thousand scientists signed a petition disagreeing with him.

I really don't understand people that seem to hate Al Gore and/or are totally against the thought that humans cause Global warming take the time to search out these videos and comment on them.
It's a shame that Al Gore didn't win in 2000. What a waste in many ways these past 8 years has been in terms of cutting emissions in USA and loss of life in wars. I'm confident he would have handled it much better.

Both September 2008 and October 2008 were slightly cooler than September 2007 and October 2007.
