I'm not sure I want to try Kuk Sool Won, but at the same time the Phillipino Martial Arts are really calling my name. We have a Kuk Sool Kwan gym where i am, but i'm not sure if i want to join or not :-/
I love kuk sool won :) and i go to kuk sool won of saint paul :) I'm one of the 1st degree black belts and iv been doing it for around 6 years. if you live near saint paul and you want to do martial arts try kuk sool won of saint paul!!! they have the best instructors and some of the best people you will ever meet
Not meening to nit pick or put down any marital art, but even if it is for display purposes only, the strike at 3:22 is the most unrealistic thing i have ever seen.
@WildWhiteDignity It's not like that ... everything compliments each other. By the time you achieve black belt, you're likely 5 years into your training, and thats when you actually start learning the actual in depth curriculum. Martial arts has helped me become the person I am today.
I just started Kuk Sool back in August and I love it! It's interesting and challenging, not to mention pretty fun. I have just been promoted to yellow belt level and I really enoy this form of martial arts!
I believe this is a general-purpose Kuk Sool Won demonstration video that is posted by the St. Paul school for information. The demo takes place primarily in the headquarters school in Tomball, TX.
hey I did kajukenbo in P'town back in the '90s. I liked all the hard/soft and different combined styles. This is kinda the same, with many different attributes, but IMHO better, with a lonnnng history behind it. Check out a class at the Kuk Sool Won Dojang. What I like most is that Ego is checked at the door......
Consuidering how flowing the techniques of taekkyon and weapon systems are, it's a miracle that Korean Martial Arts don't have the kali or filipino knife fighting free-flow "sticky" hand movements of hubud lubud drills used in knife tapping-fighting and panantukan (filipinio unarmed fighting)
to any one who does not understand Kuk Sool, it may seem there is no power as tincannmann has stated but the truth is this system is concidered a "soft style" using the water princible of flow, the circle princible of redirection of power, and the princibles of harmony. This system is one of the most comprehencive "combat" systems availble to the public to date.
the majority of kuk sool schols are known as Hapkido schools in Korea. They are under the Ki Do Association. Training varies but the school I am at is mostly focused on kicking techniques and sport competition. Though we practice ho-shin-sul and hyeung also.
But the emphasis still remains on kicking and nak-bup. What do you think?

These guys look really good, but a feel the curriculum is to much; I'd be afraid of being a jack of all trades & a master of none.

you do not need to use all force to deafeat/stop an enemy, it also depends if the exercise is fluid or agressive.
kajukenbo12321 3 years ago
@tincannmann I would say just come along to any Kuk Sool Won school. You can get alot of power out of small movements.
