What part of this is hard to understand? Hitchens attacked Mormons, which is expected from this atheist, but then Sharpton attacked them as well, which is NOT ACCEPTABLE from a Christian. This is the reason for the criticism. Don't rationalize it away... Al eventually took responsibility for this, met with LDS leaders, and apologized by saying his preconceptions were wrong. Perhaps his followers can follow his lead?

in my opinion, prayer IS talking to God. I address Him, thank Him, ask for help with things that I am in need of, and things that I have no control over. I pray for others. To me, I am talking to God and He is listening. we all have a direct connection to God, not face to face like a prophet or anything, but we can communicate with Him. i believe He may speak into the heart and soul of each and every individual through the Holy Ghost.

susie, dont be sorry that i feel it is necessary to talk to God. Jesus talked to God the Father all the time. If He felt that it was necessary, then I believe it is even more necessary for me. Of course, I believe that the Holy Ghost may dwell within us, however, that does not mean that prayer is not necessary. Prayer is one way i keep my relationship with Him intact.

Evangelical Christians will never vote for Romney! You have to believe in god the same way they do and Mormons DO NOT PERIOD! They may say they are christians, but they have VERY distinct differences in how they believe. Above and beyond the way the VAST majority of christians do. That's fine with me. Also, Latter-day Saints do not believe that their leaders (including the Prophet) is infallible. Prophets are entitled to their own opinions, prejudices, and errors, just like everybody else.

I really don't care what he says about Mormons. What he says doesn't mean anything to me. But i am commenting on some of the other comments made...
We don't believe we will become our own god. We try to be LIKe god and hope to LIVE WITH HIM one day, but we will never BE god. We will never be A god, or as perfect as god.
You, my dear, really need to stop reading anti-mormon sites because NO WHERE on the offical site of our church does it say ANYTHING you've been saying.

You really don't know anything about the Mormon church. We use the SAME bible that ALL other Christan faiths use. We ARE Christians. Websters defines a Christian as "one who professes belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ" We believe in Jesus Christ. We believe in the SAME Jesus Christ that everyone else does.

Even tho Sharpton is a prime example of Christianity in the wrong hands? He is extremely hypocritical, and should be viewed as an impostor Christian. People are right to be scared of religion when people like this exist in our world. Plus his whole life is dedicated to creating racial outrage from an otherwise non-racial issue; he needs to disappear from the news headlines forever.

Historians who believe the Earth is only ten thousand years and that the human race descends from Adam and Eve etc. aren't regarded as legitimate scholars. If your argument is that 'some of the Bible has been proven false and some is known to be true,' than the same is true of the Book of Mormon and the Koran.

Sharpton says believers in GOD - not "Christians". It's still indefensible by any standard of religious belief (unless one is still going by the chestnut that there is only one true Faith and that's (fill in the blank) and all others are blasphemies. See the Sunni and Shiite conflicts (or Northern Ireland) to see where this will end.

So completely false, it shows your ignorance. How could you even BEGIN to try and prove the bible to be true scientifically when there are THOUSANDS of translations (that point to different doctrines) and the text was distorted and changed by early Christians? And fyi, locations spoke of in the Book of Mormon have in fact been located. Such as the location of a tombstone with the words "Nahem" in the middle east, which was referred to BY NAME in the BoM.

This is true. So-called "christians" pick and choose what they want to believe, in a sense taking advantage of their own god and disrespecting him. It doesn't even make sense for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon is a nickname) to want to be called christian when this is what a christian is supposed to do. LDS members are more christ-like and firm believers in christ, then the general "christian" denominations are themselves, let them keep the name.

No. I will say he's hypocritical. Sharpton self-anointed himself as the protector and spokesperson of the black community "in the spirit of equality and peace" but all he really does is undercut everyone else's beliefs. He speaks of how black people here building pyramids when white men lived in caves and then turns around and slams Dom Imus for the ho comments.
