Syrians are a great 1st time hamster, if you're not so confident at handling them. Getting them young also gives you the best chance of hand-taming them and if you can find a home-breeder, then chances are your hamster will have a great nature, having had handling from very early on. If you'd like more than one, I'dgo for the dwarf hamsters, but unless they are Robos (in my own experience) you will probably have to house them seperately. I've never been able to keep my hamsters togther.
