But I agree with you that the horses, at least, have been put into unnecessary risk and that the bulls may be a bit stressed, though I really doubt they'll be traumatized by it - they probably won't remember the next day... however, you do have to admit it's a step up from regular bullfighting, where the bull wouldn't be ALIVE the next day.
Except the next day the Bulls are put through it all over again, the reason they are so aggressive is that they are confused and scared.

The bulls don't look confused and scared to me, they look like they're operating on pure instinct and are angry. They otherwise seem to be in good health, the festival only lasts 6 days and there are 40+ different bulls each day. Personally, I think it beats becoming a hamburger, but that's just me.

@duckshover1 I have seen many videos about bullfighting by many animal rights groups. They talk about the bull dying in pain and the physical trauma it endures in the ring. Never have they talked about how the poor bull that survived was so traumatized it stood and shook whenever a human came up to it, or anything like that. Because this is something that animal rights groups highlight, if it happened to the bulls, I'd think they'd mention it.
Just cause an animal lives through an ordeal and doesn't seem to have any physical or mental trauma , does that make it right to have put the animal through the ordeal in the first place? I don't believe so .
Many trained animals, jumps horses , Elephants, bears , big Cats endure being poked , whipped, yelled at for years, turn on their trainers with usually tragic results. I notice the Killer Whales at Seaworld all have their dorsal fin bent over .A sign they are stressed and unhappy .

CONT : I own Border Collies and discourage them to jump at all costs . Prolonged activity ,training involving jumping will seriously damage their Stifle / joint and lead to irreversible Cruciate ligament damage arthritis at an early age. I've seen it in many Dogs and cannot understand why people put their animals through this ? We obviously see animals totally differently , I admire them for what they are and don't need them to perform and /or take part in spectacles to appreciate them

They're jumping into water. No joint damage, they aren't being dragged, they're enjoying themselves... how is it abusive, per se?
@duckshover1 p.s. you misunderstand me. I mean that NO ONE will EVER own an animal without reason. The animals do have a purpose. Whether that purpose is to be a companion, to compete, or just to look pretty in a pasture (or a combination, who knows?), they do have a PURPOSE that they are FULFILLING.
My collies are Walked 5 ks every day ,3 times a week they are allowed to run free on a farm for an hour or so were they instinctively herd sheep , swim in a dam etc . They are lucky dogs.
Collies need to be excercised but can easily over do it . Don't get me wrong either , trials and working contests are exactly what border collies need to stimulate their mind and body , I can see in your video that your Dog is enjoying his routine it's only the repeated jumping that I am talking about .
CONT : Personally I don't like Dog contests mainly due to the politics and type of person they tend to attract . The big danger with jumping is that as a Dogs stifle is such a complex joint a Dog repeatedly jumping can do a relatively minor injury quite easily ,unlike a human who would pull up at this stage ,a Dog wanting to please it's owner will keep going and by the time you notice something is wrong major tearing and damage has been done
I was guilty of this ,my first BC years ago used to jump to catch a frisbee really high and spectacular leaps it was great to watch , I used to Kite buggy in a park sometimes for hours on end this Dog would chase me all day simulating rounding me up . One day a guy who was some Border Collie guru on holiday form the UK watched my dog and me for a couple of hours . He then gave me a serve told me I was going to kill my Dog and That Collies that jump at a young age usually have
hip and knee problems later on in life , I was at first defensive, like you , cause I enjoyed my interaction with my dog ,then I realized the guy was right, I had noticed the dog limping on a couple of a ac cation and decided to modified my activity .
You have a beautiful Dog there and I am not suggesting you are abusing it intentionally , I would watch the jumping, the typical outcomes aren't worth it.
As for the Bull video I still don't agree with it's content , but that's just my opinion .
@duckshover1 Thank you, but my agility group isn't all political and stuff. Our dogs come first. Out of the entire group (more than is in the videos, btw, this is 40+ dogs, all ages and breeds) I know 2 that have joint issues. 12 years old and 9 years old, one back issues, one shoulders, both happy and lowered jump heights (with vet's permission). Agility can be stressful on the joints if you jump height all the time, but in training, you should do a lot of technical low stuff.
CONT: also, no jumping till they're a year and a half and their last joint (hips) have closed :-)

And back to the bulls... I think this is PROGRESS. It's not perfect by any means, but it's still better than traditional bullfighting. Asking people to give up tradition completely isn't going to work. Asking them to MODIFY the tradition has a better chance. Idealism is great, but sometimes reality gets in the way of things.
I only protest on behalf of animals,traditions involving animals I couldn't care less about stepping on ppl's toes when commenting Most stem from religious sacrifice and other uncivilized mumbo jumbo that really whilst understandable in the dark ages has no relevance today many only kept up to cater for the tourist dollar.Someone sent me a link re Bullfighting and it stated that only a very small percentage of Spaniards actually attend traditional Bullfighting now most spectators are tourists.
@duckshover1 I know, and I sympathize, but it's unrealistic to expect something to become perfect overnight. I aim for progress, not perfection. As long as they keep progressing, they'll eventually reach - well, not perfection (that's impossible) but something far better than what it was before.

But I agree with you that the horses, at least, have been put into unnecessary risk and that the bulls may be a bit stressed, though I really doubt they'll be traumatized by it - they probably won't remember the next day... however, you do have to admit it's a step up from regular bullfighting, where the bull wouldn't be ALIVE the next day.

@duckshover1 Love the way you claim to know how I'm thinking and feeling, and how all the spectators are, as well as claiming to know how the bulls are thinking and feeling. The bulls don't look confused and scared to me, they look like they're operating on pure instinct and are angry. They otherwise seem to be in good health, the festival only lasts 6 days and there are 40+ different bulls each day. Personally, I think it beats becoming a hamburger, but that's just me.

@duckshover1 I have seen many videos about bullfighting by many animal rights groups. They talk about the bull dying in pain and the physical trauma it endures in the ring. Never have they talked about how the poor bull that survived was so traumatized it stood and shook whenever a human came up to it, or anything like that. Because this is something that animal rights groups highlight, if it happened to the bulls, I'd think they'd mention it.

I can draw a parallel here with people who make their dogs perform and test the limits of their bodies. Over exertion, agility trials , dock jumping . CONT : I own Border Collies and discourage them to jump at all costs . Prolonged activity ,training involving jumping will seriously damage their Stifle / joint and lead to irreversible Cruciate ligament damage arthritis at an early age. My collies are Walked 5 ks every day ,3 times a week they are allowed to run free on a farm for an hour or so were they instinctively herd sheep , swim in a dam etc . They are lucky dogs.
Collies need to be excercised but can easily over do it . Don't get me wrong either , trials and working contests are exactly what border collies need to stimulate their mind and body , I can see in your video that your Dog is enjoying his routine it's only the repeated jumping that I am talking about .

I was guilty of this ,my first BC years ago used to jump to catch a frisbee really high and spectacular leaps it was great to watch , I used to Kite buggy in a park sometimes for hours on end this Dog would chase me all day simulating rounding me up . @duckshover1 Thank you, but my agility group isn't all political and stuff. Our dogs come first. Out of the entire group (more than is in the videos, btw, this is 40+ dogs, all ages and breeds) I know 2 that have joint issues. 12 years old and 9 years old, one back issues, one shoulders, both happy and lowered jump heights (with vet's permission). Agility can be stressful on the joints if you jump height all the time, but in training, you should do a lot of technical low stuff.

@duckshover1 I know, and I sympathize, but it's unrealistic to expect something to become perfect overnight. I aim for progress, not perfection. As long as they keep progressing, they'll eventually reach - well, not perfection (that's impossible) but something far better than what it was before.
I'm used to arguing on the other side, actually, arguing that bullfighting is cruelty. All I'm trying to point out here is that this is a better alternative to the tradition.
