If a 20 year practitioner of Wing Chun tried to trap a guy that has been boxing 6 months what do you think would happen? I'll tell ya. He would get KTFO!
It did happen in China in the late 1940's when Ipman beat a British boxer using wing chung thereby sealing his fate as a legend. Who is IPman? He is the guy that taught Bruce Lee how to fight. Look, JKD uses boxing too because Bruce included this in JKD. Bruce was trained in boxing and was once the Hong Kong lightweight champion. Bruce took the best of the various arts that he studied and got rid of the rest. If you think its bull, would you fight Bruce in his prime?

lame.I think Sifu Iardarola f.a. would have a question that he could not answer. This man here is such a poser.Look at his one inch "punch".The worst I ever saw.
I remember this even thou I did it soooo many years ago when I was a little dragon with Sijo DeMile It is a beautiful art form and I wan't to continue to learn it and many more even thou it may take a life time just to master one art form.
Laughable? For years, the JKD community has dealt with inner conflict between the concepts advocates and the smaller circle of individuals who don't want to see Bruce Lee's original art die out. Lamar Davis is a part of that smaller circle and through all the b.s., he has shown the courage to stick to his guns. Davis, Ted Wong, and Tim Tackett are some of the individuals who will help JKD to thrive in the future.
and no it's not (quote)"bad mouthing your LEGITIMATE stuff" I have no Idea where your level in jkd or wing chun is. but i've seen stuff from jesse and i've been taught stuff from ted, howard or jesse (not directly by these people but i was told from whom the particular knowledge came from). sorry but the demo just don't look the same like the stuff i've been taught or shown. and you state yourself you were working with some these people so why is it still diffrent what you do?
Seeing something and feeling something are two different things, especially in chi sao. As for my level, I've been doing Jun Fan Gung Fu and Jeet Kune Do for thirty-one years, and I am certified as a Full/Senior Instructor by five of Bruce Lee's original students. I have actually done chi sao with ALL of the men you mentioned. My chi sao is a product of all of the Bruce Lee students that I have worked with, not just any particular one, two or three.
in all those clips I saw wing chun. so why is it that people say jkd came from bruce's jun fan gung fu but no elements of it were seen in those and in tons of other clips betitled as jkd? in any demonstration people show either wing chun, kickboxing or even worse stickfighting and grappling and non of it resembles jkd.
And Jun Fan Gung Fu is considered primarily to be modified wing chun. Wing Chun was the single most important art in the formulation of Jun Fan Gung Fu, and what was later to become Jeet Kune Do. Many elements of Jun Fan as well as Jeet Kune Do are shown in my clips, and there is a BIG difference between what I do and pure Wing Chun. As I said in my other post, seeing and feeling are two different things. Much is to be said for the "attitude" in chi sao.
ok but i read in interviews (taky) that bruce got away from chi sao or that he got away from traping (explained by tim on youtube). My point is he felt the need to change stuff so it tells me he considered it less efficient than the new stuff he discovered. Why going back the road? i mean bruce was the founder of jkd why not seeing his later stuff as state of the art? no one said his older stuff doesn't work but there was a reason why he felt to go further THAT's the point I don't understand
The problem here is thast everyone is not Bruce Lee! Taky has also often said that the statement that he made has been very misunderstood! Bruce Lee was performing at a level where there were no longer obstructions on his line of attack, therefore no trapping needed. However, if he did suddenly need trapping, it was there. Why? Well, it is because it was already ingrained into his neuromuscular response system and when it was needed, he could just do it without thought or hesitation.
i agree that the wing chun was the "root cause" for jkd but what about all that boxing and fencing stuff? id'say 99% of so called jkd clips/demos you name it don't show bruces later stuff. why is that so? People speak about the 3 developement phases of jkd but all I can see is either wing chun emphasized or it goes totally the wrong direction but none of em show stuff that was done in oakland or in L.A.
Maybe we have been watching different clips, but I see meore people showing the punching and kicking, but much less skill in the areas of energy/sensitivity training and trapping. I agree with you 100% that too many are showing what they claim is JKD, when in fact it has NOTHING to do with JKD! The seminar that the footage of me was taken from was an energy/sensitivity drill and trapping based seminar, so of course that is what you are going to see. I teach what I am paid to teach!
Another reason for this is that if you take away the trapping, Jeet Kune Do becomes more or less kickboxing with the power side forward! People want to see what makes Jeet Kune Do different from other arts, and usually it is the area of energy/sensitivity training and trapping that make it different. ANYONE can learn to kick and punch, but energy/sensitivity training and trapping are different ... NOT so easy to learn and do ... especially if you want to do it right! Right being the key word.
Lamar Davis "Another reason for this is that if you take away the trapping, Jeet Kune Do becomes more or less kickboxing with the power side forward! People want to see what makes Jeet Kune Do different from other arts"
LMFAO
No! People want to see what makes Jeet Kune Do work.

I guarantee Sifu Davis would make a believer out of you. To be honest, his ability is scary. Even if I was 50 lbs heavier than he was, I wouldn't touch him.
Just saying, if anyone can make trapping work and teach others to do the same, it's Sifu Davis. So, be a bit more respectful.
Why do none of you JKD guys ever use this shit in a fight? Even the videos of Bruce Lee himself shows it's founders inabilty to apply trapping in an actual combat situation. Even the pure Wing Chun guys I see are unable to apply this stuff, and they are much better at it then any JKD guy.

LOL! Dude, I'll give you $100 if you face Sifu Davis, or any of his instructors, and fight them with the condition that they have to trap you, and they CAN'T do it. And which videos do you see that BL can't trap? James DeMile was a golden gloves boxer and he himself said he got shut down like a child. I have the magazine article if you doubt me. Just saying dude, Sifu Davis is the real deal, and if anyone can trap, or teach others how to, it's him.
Type in "Bruce Lee sparring", here on youtube, to find the footage of Bruce NOT trapping his opponent during a DEMONSTRATION of JKD sparring. Now that I pointed you in the right direction perhaps you can show me footage of a JKD/Wingchun practitioner actually using it in a Full contact fight. I'll take your $100 provided you pay the travel expenses.

Well, your overwhelming evidence (one clip) is just too much. Ignore the fact that Bruce also demonstrated trapping at the same tournament, or that, again, he shut down a golden gloves boxer; those don't count, only one clip. Just the one. Oh, also ignore that he was using HUGE GLOVES that make it difficult to grip. Silly me.
No more responses; there's no use in arguing with the willfully ignorant.
It worked ... unlike chisao, but I didn't respond because you decided to end our little discussion after you were unable to find any videos containing people using it in an actual fight. Now I am afraid I am going to end this, because I have realized the answers I seek. It goes like this ... Chisao is not meant to be an actual combat technique. It is an exercise used to develop sensitivty, sort of like pummeling in wrestling. Yours in Budo - Kirokyukan
@kirokyukan I have plenty of times. But I'm not going to post it on youtube and get sued,You try working a door for a night club and you got some asshole wanting to kick your ass because you exist.
@kirokyukan Im a JKD fighter. Meaning I fight and train for real fights and I can say THIS CRAP IS USELESS. I threw all the trapping out. If I see an arm i could slap it away ones but second I hit instead all this bullcrap moves. In the first place boxing is the thing you should focus on. Trapping is a clinching range. There no time for this crap, only if you fight a drunk man or an old lady. This is fantasy. And all those old men are selling JKD for their own money. They never fought ones!!
I love it when idiots who have never met Sifu Davis make comments about him. I guess that I can go around and make statements about 6trojans' mom...oh wait...I did meet her...she was a nasty ho!
