Breaking as we termed the actual dance back in the day was the actual floor work..you did not have to dance to a break beat but that is where the mainstream media got the term from B-Boys actually referred to it as Down Rocking & eventually got sick of having to explain ourselves to the general public so the term stuck..Reminiscent of the term Jungle which again was a derogatory term used for Reggae influenced break beats that were then mixed with House tracks so that encorporated all cultures!

@NYCSubway2012 what is breaking???? i thought break dancing involved everything from popping, floor rocks, the power moves, the drops, the foot work, the top rock, and others. ? im not sure correct me if im wrong. i thought breakdancing was like martial arts, and in martial arts there are different kinds per say. like kung fu is different from karate, but still martial arts.

breakdancin us not popin or lockin or rockin or anything all this dances are unique styles say like karate is not kung fu or hikitdo is not judo ect,,hip hop dancin is more likely to incorporate all of the diferente dances including freestyle Jazz or modern dubbet Hip hop ...ok..

The Dancer would dance on the Break Beat - that's where you got the break in Break Dancer. Back in the Day what he is doing is popping or uprocking - what was practice on the floor is called Downrocking.
