  • that blonde. that groove. those lips. those soft, supple breasts laying casually below her tee. her delightful eighties attire. she made this video worth watching as opposed to just listening to.

  • yes, the blond one is fitter than butchers dog!

  • I don't know what they are dancing to, but I'm in love with the blond girl on the right!

  • is it just me or is everyone dancing to their own beat in this video? Nevermind, it's still a fab song- it manages to be soulful, yet punky.

  • Hall and Oats could have sung this..and nobody would have noticed

  • 80s 4 ever

  • Careful with this one...

  • No bra = Shaky tits

  • = awesome

  • Underwear.

  • Wow. You're an idiot aren't you?

  • then why are you watching it? oh wait.. cuz your gay

  • this song is playing a touch too slow

  • But who cares

  • I thought that!

  • Paul Carrack is touring doing some great stuff. He is timeless.

  • Irrespective of the video quality what it can't hide is the overall brilliance of Glenn Tilbrook as a songwriter

  • tempted by the fruit of another

  • REALLY!

  • long story

  • Guys, it's their video, they can do what they want with it. The internet seems desperate for good quality products for free, but the reality is that that's just a pipe dream. If the quality is good, people will pay for it, therefore people will charge for it. Stop bitching.

  • jules holland is still the coolest thing to come out of squeeze

  • saw this on vh1's 100 greatest songs of the 80's

  • I wonder if they regret having Paul Carrack sing on this- he ended up becoming the most famous guy in the band because of it. Look at the hot sluts in the background!!!

  • He did? Where's Carrack now? Does anyone you know think of this as a Carrack song or a Squeeze song? He's an awesome writer and singer but over over Glenn and Chris? Um, yeah.

  • This song unlike many others is definitely a Carrack song with a bit of Elvis Costello mixed in.

  • lol rickenbacker

  • ' A foot without a sock '...... !!

Paul carrick on vocals... UK's Finest..

    Squeeze.... Quality... Insperational.. !!!

    Ian Dury would chuckle...

    i was ' Tempted '... Still am ??

  • yeah I saw them in concert over the summer. They're still great!

  • It's just a shame Universal is incapable of doing a decent encode.

  • there's no money in it,man.if there was a buck to be made, they'd be on it like ugly on an ape.

  • I have two theories: Either

    1) Universal is hoping we'll get desperate enough to pay to see a decent quality video or

    2) they refuse to put any effort into giving us something free.

I guess it's still better than Warner Music Group, which won't post anything at all on YouTube. (Their stuff is all on imeem, which they own a piece of.)

    : P

    TGF

  • You're absolutely right. They think bad quality= good business. I'll take bad video with FREEDOM over the alternative.

  • Hmmm...that's why this crappy version popped up,lol.Geez...I wonder how long it's gonna be till youtube charges us to be here?

  • one of the best songs from the 1980s

  • East Side Story, baby! I still have this on vinyl. I was 12 and a happy girl when I got this album the year it was realised , for a Christmas present. I must have listened to it a hundred times that year, and realized immediately "Hey, that's not Glenn singing" and have been proud to know Paul Carrack sang this song from the beginning. You can definetely hear Elvis Costello's influence on this entire record. I still stop and listen to this song when it's played on the radio.

  • This is the only Squeeze song that Paul Carrack sings lead vocals, and it's amazying. Makes you sit up and realize that Glenn isn't singing, but yet it's still classic Squeeze. A classic.

  • yea it was on hot 97 too in the aft

  • this was on terry wogan radio 2 this morning , just had to search it out and reminice a bit......

  • This song makes me proud to be a child of the 80s.

  • ah, u gotta love the 80's...

  • awesome

  • gta vc

  • Ok, So The chick in the middle dances like a retard, the chick on the far right dances OK,but its like shes enjoying it to much, the the chick on the left, WHAT THE FUCK! Its like shes on crack!

  • its the 80's she probably was lol

  • Nah, we didn't have crack in 81, it came along a few years later. I'm thinking maybe ludes.

  • iknow jp

  • i believe it was '86 ir '87

  • Good vid-- but I'm trying to figure out why they have Carrack playing a Prophet-5 instead of the Hammond B-3 organ like on the original recording. My guess is cheap-ass record company didn't want to rent one for the video shoot, thinking the record-buying public won't know the difference. Wrong, cheap-ass record company, we do.

  • Well, You did, but I have no fucking idea, i just like the song! :D

  • I love this. fantastic lyrics!! This band is so under rated.

  • Paul Carrack & Glen Tilbrook fantastic vocals

  • great song and lyrics

  • This song is PERFECT! I Love these singers.

  • this reminds me of GTA vice city

  • me too :D

  • Classic, just classic.

  • Weed was the thing back in the early to mid 80's. Thank You.

  • Pajamas...he brought his pajamas...LMFAO

  • Go to show how easy GREAT pop music can be

  • Does anyone else besides me think that Paul Carrack looks exactly like comedian Mike Birbiglia?

  • Yes

    (BTW, who is Mike Birbiglia?)

  • Nearly thirty years - and it still bugs me that the backup hotties can't catch a beat.

  • See? Nothing wrong with this music video.

Just sweet and simple, the artist playing the music. We get to enjoy it. Wish MTV would bring this back...

  • Didn't know 'til just now that Carrack replaced Jools Holland on keyboards.

Also that Carrack was with Roxy Music.

But Squeeze is all about Diffird and Tilbrook ,,,

  • Carrack was the frosting on Squeeze's cake!

  • I'm pretty sure Paul Carrack also did the vocals for Mike & the Mechanics

  • Carrack's vocals are just amazing. What a stellar singer.

  • GTA indeed±D

  • one of the best Squeeze song :)

  • wtf.. a pot video automatically redirects here?!

  • Comment removed

  • I can't remember... xD

  • what a mad arse song

heard the dude singing it on telly by himself about a year back, totally shat all over everything else that was on

  • This song comes on at my job all the time. It was okay the first couple times...but after the 100th time in a month...I kinda want to break our radio. D:

  • hahaha!

    thank you for sharing! ;)

  • GTA Vice City !!!

  • Haha! I like how Chris pretends to sing during the part that is actually Elvis Costello's voice.

  • pop masters! - these guys know how to write songs

  • The front man of this band sounds alot like Collin James.

  • Such a unique lyricist ...just awesome... and the music is from heaven! One of the best bands ever.

  • I have to take my hat of to Difford and Tilbrook for realising that Paul Carrack's voice couldn't be hidden under a bushell. Although nominally a keyboard player for the band, his vocal performance is outstanding.

  • Love this song. Carrack knocked it out of the park. I'm lovin' the blonde on the far right, too.

  • Back when this video was new, those glimpses of her were the reason why I watched the video, and of course the song grew on me, as it always happens.

  • Yes indeed, I must agree on both...

  • i am 12 but i love 80's music way better than the modern day music. this song is so awesome!!!

  • thank god you're not falling for all that pop tart stuff

don't ever let anyone tell you not to like 80s. it's the best music ever

  • 80s mainstream stuff was still pretty bad. There was some good 80s stuff though. My favorite album was released in 81 (Sandinista!) but the 70s were still the best. and modern music can be good if you look for it.

  • Yeeeaaaah Sandinista!!!!!!!!

Really though this song is on the bland side but Squeeze have a lot of amazing songs (far more interesting than this one imo)

  • Yea. My favorite Squeeze song is Cool For Cats

  • omg same >.>

  • Wee, I'm not alone :D

  • whats a foot without a sock?

  • person not wearing SOCKS LOL

  • .A.bare foot..........

  • Squeeze w/Paul Carrack (spelling)....the BEST!

  • classic ,to bad today's music has no soul or no feelings

  • YAH i KNOW i hate most modern day music im 16 but my MOM and DAD raised me on 70s 80s THE BEST

  • i know! modern music is all so mindless, teenagers today are mindless too. im a teenager but im not mindless im only rambiling.

  • lol!

  • I love this song. You can't stop listening.

  • Everything about this song is great. You can't sit still, it's smooth, the girls are gorgeous, and the 80's clothes are very cool. Two thumbs up!

  • The definition of smooth in the music industry.

  • the good old days, wish i could go back.

  • I Love Pauls Voice!!!

  • Is the singer the same guy from Mike and the Mechanics?

  • Yes, this is Paul Carrack. He sang with Squeeze for a short time, and he alternated lead vocalist duties with one other singer in MIke and the Mechanics.

  • yes it is .... mike rutherford (GO GENESIS) lol but yeah paul carrack thats him

  • Ohh this a good song!

  • Long before I ever wrote a song, the power and easy precision of this used to stop me wherever I was, and I'd just be rooted to the ground near the radio til it was over. I always wish this one never ended. You don't even need to know why it's so good, even as a clueless kid you know you're hearing magic. well done.

  • droid740..that was an awesome post.

  • I loved this beautiful song in "GTA Vice City"...

  • Ace- How Long (has this been going on)

Paul Carrack...not too many know that. If you do, no wiseass comments, please... :P

  • He wasn't even slated to sing this song, then only one on the album where he sings lead.

Carrack was only supposed to be the keyboardist. But during a rehearshal he started to sing it and everyone agreed that he did it best.

    It was all by accident.

    Brilliant stuff.

  • One of the great pop songs of its time. Beautiful lyrics, lilting tune. When you discover your partner has been unfaithful put in it on your stereo and have a good cry

  • There's not one bad song on this album.

I had East Side Story on cassette and it once spent about 10 months in my car's tape deck. I'd either listen to it because I loved it or pop it in if I couldn't find a decent tune on the radio.

It took me a couple of years before I became even remotely tired of it.

I nearly wore the tape out.

  • "a foot without a sock, your body gets much closer, I fumbled for the clock, alarmed by the seduction, you know I wish that it would stop" that f*cking genius.

  • Paul Carrack-- still one of the greatest voices. Ace, Roxy Music, Squeeze...wonder why so many different groups and never stuck with one for more than a year or two.

  • The girl on the far right looks like Paris Hilton.....kathy maybe? LOL

  • 80zzz!!

  • 3:28 so funny

  • Anybody know why Chris Difford is sitting down for the video? Did he need a little break or something? Or an injury?

  • The chicks made him light-headed.

  • were is the live concert video tape

  • Chick on the left is the ONLY reason I watch this..

  • Nah, the one in the middle, she was the hot one!

  • I made a similar comment about how hot they looked and homos also kept giving me negative marks.

  • Vice City =)

  • this is in it?

  • this song is pretty nice but the sound sucks. maybe you can make it a litle more better quality?

  • A great cool song The original was a bit faster, as someone already said. Love it no matter...

  • Ummm....this IS the original. You not old enough to remember, I guess.

  • one of the great songs. by two great songwriters, produced by elvis costello.

    bloody losers

  • this song is like syrup on pancakes

  • what a good song..seriously

  • Paul Carack orginally started as a member of Genesis. In my opinion East Side Story is an album every SKA fan should own. Dad used to play this song all the time, I enjoy the different vocalist, gives the song depth.

  • Squeeze will be appearing live on the STONE and Digital Dave Radio show!

  • this video is a tad slow... the original was significantly higher in key.

  • this is more jazz then new wave

  • There's no jazz in this at all, but calling it new wave would also be meaningless because "new wave" was a marketer's term, not a term musicians applied to themselves. In style and even instrumentation, this song is RnB straight out of the 60s, like a lot of music from the late 70s/early 80s. A lot of what people think of as 80s now was considered 60s revivalism at the time, this song being a prime example.

  • It fucking class, thats what it is, class

  • Hear, hear !

From the serial vocal solos to the roadhouse bass line...it's R&B, circa 1963. A great song well done, in any case.

  • funky

  • whos the lead singer?

  • paul carrack

  • jools holland

  • it's paul carrack in this song not jools holland

  • marilyn manson

  • Awesome song.

  • And is it me or does the bass player look, at the end of the video, like he is in desperate need of a laxative? Maybe it's the rum talking but I doubt it. l KNOW that look. =)

  • you are correct...its just you. I do know a good shrink for rummies.

  • I had no idea this was the same dude from Mike+The Mechanics, Ace, Don't Shed A Tear. This dude has some fuckin talent.

  • Glenn you never looked better and your b.v.'s are divine honey

  • Difford lip-synching to Elvis's cameo solo? That's a riot!

  • GTA Vice City-Emotion 93(?)

  • A great song by a great band. Brings back memories of the 80s.

  • lol

    Yeah!

  • "I pass the church and the steeple and the laundry on the hill.."

Me really likey this bad-ass 80s tune!!!

  • Paul Carrack was not originally slated to sing Tempted. He was hired only to play keyboard on this brilliant album. Note: It's the only song on East Side Story on which he sings lead.

But one day, during rehearsal, he took the opening verse on a whim and Glen Tilbrook knew there was no dispute.

By total accident Carrack sang lead and the chemistry was such that the new wave movement was given one of its greatest ever songs.

    This song rules.

  • An all-time classic!!

  • This one seriously low-budget video! Great song, though.

  • ROFL XD I was thinkin the same thing.Looks like they went and randomly picked up some girls and said:"You ladies wanna be in a really wicked video"? By the way,you won't be gettin paid much, but you'll really look great shakin your arse.Sold!!!

Seriously,I love this song,it's gotta sweet groove to it,but if you really wanna see a low-budget vid, check out Journey's "Seperate Ways".They're one of my all time fav bands, but damn, they could have spent a lil more money on location at least lol.

  • The 3 women seem like they're likely partners/spouses of the band members. Just up on stage to have fun. I like it.

  • Yeah i think those girls are more eye candy then anything else. No matter, still an awesome song.

  • Some bands use to have eye candy on stage to attract more guys. The blonde is cute.

  • Lol,more like eye water, cause I can't stop laughin at the girl on the far left,I mean she's workin hard for her 50 bucks.I ain't mad at her, that was a nice piece a change for a video vixen back in the day :D

  • LMAO!! And if you watch the girl on the right, at the beginning as Paul starts singing, she's waaaaay off rythm. A tale of 2 dancers. Chick on the left's hips are swingin' for the fences....and chick on the right is clueless. =) Great post by the way. I laughed out loud.

  • Supermonkey22 - I come over to watch this one at least once a month. Guess I'm starting to feel like the 51 year old guy I am, because I cannot possibly imagine anything H O T T E R

than those three girls dancing, on the beat, off the beat, all covered up but smoking lightening hot!

I would eat them in a car

I would eat them near or far

I would eat them on some rocks

I would eat them with a fox

Oh, "Swinging for the fance" is magical genius! I've never heard that one.

  • Mrfragrant...NICE post. Can't go wrong with Dr. Seuss describing a nice evening with the solid gold dancers. LOL!

  • These guys have soul, but those girls must've been dancing to the lyrics instead of the rhythm. Ha!

  • this song brings me back when i was three way back in the 80s

  • WOW I didn't know all that about Elvis and Ozzie .....Two of my most favorite artists...and this is one of those songs that I could just drown in I love it so much!!

    Thank you so much!!

  • I love this song & video....but those women in the background...well bless their hearts......

  • LMAO

  • awesome

  • That's actually Elvis Costello's voice on the second verse - the low and high voices that aren't Glenn Tillbrook. Pretty sweet.

  • And that's Ozzy Osbourne's voice one that 3rd voice =)
