I don't think a lot of you understand how difficult this particular passage at the end is on vocals... This is the upper mid range. It's too low to effectively use head voice because it'll be too soft, but it's very high for chest voice. Making the compromise on either side is unbelievably difficult.

well honestly i believe that now even though Labrie can't sing as high he did earlier,still his voice has become more mature now.. earlier he used to sing just like a metalhead and used to give a screaming kind of effect to his voice.. that used to overshadow the texture of his voice... but now his singing skills have gained experience and a lot of maturity.. i just love his voice... it is unique and has a very rich texture.. and now he doesnt scream either.. so i can hear his real voice..

He can't sing as high? Have you listened to the special edition CD of Black Clouds And Silver Linings? They did a Queen cover where he hits several really high notes that are very reminiscent of Roger Taylor. I almost thought what you thought, but that man still has talent, and he still has a pretty awesome range.

Exactly - that special edition CD really shows what LaBrie can do. I saw DT live in 2009 and LaBrie was simply awesome - they played a lot of stuff from Awake and he was hitting every note just like on the album. The problem with DT is that they often don't write songs tailored well to his voice, or allow him to really shine like on that Queen cover. LaBrie is one of the greatest singers out there, despite what many seem to think.

I agree. I can't stand how 90% of DT haters jump all over James' voice. The dude is awesome even if it's a bit pitchy live sometimes (Budokan especially)
