@xNlNjA - Primarily in 2-Tone ska music, there would be a vocalist in the group who contributes "toasting", e.g., those Jamaican-sounding rap-style vocals you occasionally hear in ska songs (in some 3rd wave as well). They also do the "Pick it up!" style stuff. So in regards to what you're talking about, if I had to give it a name, I'd consider it a part of toasting; however, I doubt it's ever been given its own name.

In ska, the guitarist plays accented offbeats; palm-mute the downstroke, and then play the upstroke on a barre chord, and you should get the same sound, once you get the hang of the rhythm. Unfortunately, my guitar sounds like it's wheezing; instead of "ka-chink, ka-chink" it goes "cough-chink cough-chink" lol.

But now I'm in a ska band here in SLC, and one time our drummer couldn't make it to a gig, my dad filled in.
