Hello, I have watched nearly all of your videos and I find them fascinating and very helpful. I would very much appreciate it if you could tell me what recording/mixing program(s) and what plug-ins you use. - 6SM
I hate pro tools. The people who use pro tools have no idea of how music should sound. It is a piece of shit mac platform shit. Sure it sounds "good enough" but what it does to the overall sound at the end of production isn't justified. It's great for recording music that is digitally based but fuck pro tools for recording live instruments. I prefer Nuendo.
Yeah Pro Tools works for people who got no true love for audio. It is used for most of the crappy audio we hear everyday on television, movies, and popular music. Pro Tools is for tools.
The program you use to record the audio, does not have any impact on the sound. Don't espect the program to record the audio and play the music. If it sounds bad, it's your fault. lol.
In a perfect world perhaps but if that is the case then why is their even competition in the industry? I remember 16 bit was high tech and then 24 and 32 and so on and so on. Whats your point? Of course crap is crap is crap, lol. A good program can inspire you to be honest about your production instead of looking for salvation in heaps and loads of "plug ins". Pro Tools has too many plug ins to make shit sound better; that, is dishonest.
Since when is making something sound better a bad thing? Plug-ins needn't be a source of "salvation" as you say. They're just another tool that can be used creatively to get what you want from a recording in the same way as outboard effects units, guitar pedals, samplers etc. And when was it ever dishonest to use any of those things?
all daw's (recording programs) basically perform the same main functions: (1) record waveforms, (2) record midi data [keyboards, synths, etc.] and (3) allow you to edit and "mix" the midi and audio data that is recorded
pro tools doesn't give a better sound AT ALL and in some respects is weaker than other programs. for one, it is incompatible with a lot of audio hardware and software
thats a great argument, but there is one problem with it. sure, i like music that has been produced with pro tools because it is basically industry standard, but that doesnt mean i like my favorite bands' recordings all the time.
sure it doesn't affect your sound, but in a tutorial video things should be named right and the instrument recorded is called "bass drum" or "kick drum" not "base" or "kik" ;-)
Why do you suggest mixing/panning the cymbals based on the drummer's perspective?
Isn't it more natural to pan based on the audience's perspective?
elavd 1 year ago
@elavd Your right. The owner of the studio where I work is a drummer so that is how we pan all the projects unless asked otherwise.

@recordbetteraudio Thanks for your answer! ;)
