@racers115 yeah, I know they probably won't ever see this. Even if they did, I doubt they'd pay attention- after all ,wtf am I? They make great bikes and their vehicles are getting better (the Aerio, really?), but they just aren't making anything all that exciting or emotion-evoking. The Kizashi is a good step, but it's not a "Great" step which is what they need.
@olikat8 well they gotta test how that thing is gonna act as a car, can't just slap a turbo set up on it and hope it kicks their asses. i wish it was that easy but like the saying goes "it's ugly before its beautiful"
@TheMiles302 Didn't say "Just slap on a turbo, go kick some asses." But if you are going to play in the compact sports sedan arena, bring something that can keep up or act as a "Halo" car.
@Hewhosmokeswomen i was at the dealership today.....honestly just as good as any bmw! i know because I've had one. it looks great and feels like high quality!
Not for everyone. If you don't like AWD, Leather, sunroof, duel climate control, heated seats and mirrors, mp3, bluetooth, 425watt, Rockford Fosgate 10 speaker system, auto dim mirror, 3 touch memory seats, auto rain sensing wipers, F1 style paddle shifters, keyless entry. Air bags all around, 5 star safety rating, navigation with rear backup camera, fold down rear seats, spoiler and 18" wheels. Other than all that at 185hp for under 28,000 fully loaded this car really sucks.
OK I just test drove a Kizashi SLS, it had the CVT. I was very impressed with the look, handling, and features for the money, but this car does have one very serious gripe:the CVT transmission. It took about 11 seconds to get from 0-60, and even if my figure was a little off, it just felt REALLY slow, especially from a start. I don't know what was wrong with it, but I really hope Suzuki either replaces the CVT with a regular automatic or fixes it. GET THE MANUAL!
@kingdarius5252 There is a flash update that can be done to the cars computer that corrects for the lag from 0 to 15 mph. You would figure they would do that at the dealerships right when the cars arrive but alot of dealers don't bother to do it. Either way though it's free to get it done since it's just a software update.
@kingdarius5252 : If you want to go fast then yes get the manual. All AWD have the CVT auto. If you use the F style paddle shifters on the steering wheel then you can still go fast. It still has 185 hp 4 banger which ain't bad plus the 29 mpg.....

You know it's funny, I test-drove another Kizashi with the CVT yesterday and it actually seemed faster. I may have gotten an early model with bugs the 1st time around

what the hell?they show those bad ass concepts in detroit and then this junk is what they actually come out with?if they brought out the concept design, theyd actually sell alot of cars.thats just my opinion.i like the interior alot though.

@kevink1600 Yeah I totally agree, that's a beautiful design, I like it MUCH better than the original concept cars which were too extreme for my taste. I never even knew of the car, just spotted one at a tent event they were doing. Since then I found a local Suzuki dealer and went for a test drive. That car handles fantastic. Much better than the Sonata or Fusion both of which I've also taken on test drives. Suzuki should bring out more cars that look and handle as nice as this one!
why is suzuki not bringing in their Swift to U.S.? i'd have that car over a toyota yaris or nissan versa and maybe even fiesta (which is slightly overpriced i think). IF suzuki do sell it here in the U.S. then i apologize for wasting your time.
@sgirn507 The Swift is set to arrive in 2011. It would have been here in 2010, but since Volkswagen/Audi have formed a new alliance with Suzuki, they decided to delay the arrival of the Swift to the U.S. while they figured out a joint product strategy between the 3 brands. If you haven't purchased your car yet, then you don't have much longer to wait for the Swift ;)
@wppdoes thats good news. thanks for the update and the info. It would be sweet if they can put the vw gti engine in the little swift and offer it as an option. You know like a regular swift and a really swift...um.. swift. Doubt that will happen but i'm hoping nonetheless.
Last week I was shopping at Sam's club, and at the front of their parking lot there was a Car Tent Event of some sort. I caught glimpse of a gorgeous new car I was sure it was a new model Audi I wasn't familiar with. So i circled back to get a better look, and to my amazement it wasn't an Audi at all, but a Suzuki! It's not just the outside either, the interior is top notch, with a very German like layout. Great design Suzuki, I'm impressed! :)
I just saw one of these parked at the local shopping mall. It was a dark blue colour and it looked like the 2011 Sport model. All I can say is that pictures and videos don't do it justice, it's a gorgeous car in person. It's also the perfect size, kinda like the previous Mazda6 or Acura TSX. Very cool that Suzuki didn't make it HUGE like Accord or Camry!

Hey! I have a great idea! Let's build a decent car that people would buy, then name it after something off a sushi menu. The car is good. The name is stupid, and will not appeal to american tastes. It would be like trying to sell a brand new car from Chevy called the "Gravy". Suzuki will not increase their sales numbers with this nameplate.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@KatiushaVN4 Are you retarded? GM owned 20% of Suzuki before 2009 and controlled most of their US operations. The Suzuki Verona and Forenza were both built by Daewoo in Korea which is entirely owned by GM. The previous Vitara and Chevrolet Tracker were the same car. Before you make yourself look REALLY stupid next time make sure you know a thing or two. GM screwed up Suzuki in America and they are better now without them.

@DJFG85 I wouldn't say that; I mean in terms of building better cars, then yes Suzuki is WAY better, however sales have plummeted. I do, however, still have faith in Suzuki. Hopefully the Kizashi will offer a GTDI I4 and save Suzuki.

@DJFG85 i dont doubt that he does his job very well. im just saying that the sound of his voice and the way he speaks, to me is like and early 80´s tv host. but its all cool :)
I do get the sense that this is a car with an enthusiast's edge, as Suzuki promises, but I also think Suzuki needs to be realistic and realize that there is no way someone is going to take a Kizashi over an Acura TSX or similar car. To market this as an "elite performance sedan" alternative might be a little too ambitions; I think it's real competition comes from cars like the Mazda6 and Volkswagen Jetta. Nevertheless I will be seriously considering this car next year, perhaps a red GTS or sport
It's pathetic to believe that this is anything other than a great car. We have a 1985 Suzuki Swift as a delivery car at our business with over 280,000 miles on it and it's still used every day. Buy it if you can get it at a good price...
This car needs a V6 or the RRM turbo kit, and if they made the 6speed available with the AWD, it would be awesome. Over all nice car though. Keep up the good work Suzuki
@Moparornocar74 Right now you can get the RRM turbo kit at Suzuki dealers for the SX4 so I'm guessing that the RRM turbo kit for Kizashi will soon be available thru Suzuki dealers also.
I read on a Japanese blog that Suzuki is already working on the 6speed AWD version, supposed to be available next summer or fall.
@kentman900 This one's been playing since the start of the NHL playoff (for obvious reasons) here in Canada. Michael Ironside's narration really makes this commercial. Cut and past in front of youtube address - watch?v=klURoLNPRdg
thats got to be the slowest car ever made 0-60 in 8.3 secs my 06 buick lacross does better and its not a sports sedan its not even a typical sedan speed
Ok I must admit it doesn't look bad but seriously all Asian car manafacturer's seem to do is copy from the German quite often ,indicators in the mirrors ,heated seats ,and all the other numerous features that come on European built vehicles .
This car is a dead ringer of the VW Jetta and they have once again copied a German designed car ,the front end is very similar to a jetta ,also a lot of body lines and the headlights ,my god Suzuki design your own car and stop copying.
they should have come out with the exact model they showed as concept car ! that wud have really awesome... this is more like to blend in with the rest!
I bought Kizashi 2 weeks ago. And i just made a trip from Montreal to Niagara. Guess what?
I managed to do 720Km in 1 tank of gas. by using cruise control @ 115km/hour,
It's a treat to drive car. Very quiet and comfortable. I am in love with this car. But truly u can only compare this car with Germans no Japanese brand is good enough to stand close to this car.
I love this car but I HATE CVT transmissions! this car is otherwise perfect, just throw in a 6-speed auto or DSG and it would be really great. I wonder what they are going to do for a second engine choice....prob a large(ish) V-6 but a 2.4L h.o. turbo 4-cyl could make this a direct competitor to A4 and legacy with a much lower price! good job Suzuki (just remove the CVT!!!!!)
@saab93driver They were gonna use the GM High Feature V6 from the the Cadillac CTS, but that got dropped due to GM and Suzuki parting ways. I think at this point a turbo-4 is coming next. Suzuki and WV are now strategic partners so they are also studying the possibility of a small VW V6 in Kizashi if it can be done affordably. Check out the new Kizashi Turbo by RRM!
I FORGOT ABOUT THE AUDI A4 AND THE VW CC AFTER I TEST DROVE THIS CAR,its that good. This bloke left out so much about this car, starting at 18 grand and the top model at 25 to 28 grand get so much more than a car in the 35 to 45 grand .
@hoosiercub Atleast for now, but remember that even the SX4 started with AWD in automatic only but then added awd manual because of popular demand. I'm sure they will do the same thing for Kizashi if the demand is there
I honestly feel the presenter of this video shoud throw a party real soon and invite his pants down, looks like the weistband could be up around his armpits
Suzuki keeps coming out with great cars that provide great value at a very competative price! First the Aerio which came loaded with features that cost thousands more on other cars, then the SX4 lowest priced AWD car in America, and now Kizashi, I just test drove one after testing a Ford Fussion and Hyundai Sonata SE, and there's no question, the Kizashi KILLS both of those cars in handling! This is a TRUE drivers car, only cars like Audi A4 and up can compare.
never been a fan of suzuki but this one looks good, but for the price i would rather go for the new 2011 sonata turbo or wait and see what the 2011 elantra turbo will be offering.

Sales have been pretty poor so far, which is disappointing. The car needs more power. If one thing sells in America, it's power. I agree on a Turbo 4 making around 230hp for FWD and 260hp for AWD would be better. But a 185hp 4-cyl SLS Awd running nearly $28K...yikes, you can find a used 335i BMW sedan for that kind of money. 300 hp twin turbo BMW...or 185 hp 4-cyl Suzuki. Hate to say it, even with Suzuki warranty & economy perks, that's a losing battle for a high-end Kizashi.
@mtech20 I wouldn't say sales have been poor considering that Suzuki has done almost no advertising for the car yet and they have a very limited dealer network. It's about what you would expect considering those factors. And yeah you could get a used BMW sedan for 28k, but then factor in atleast 2k per year for maintinance and repair of the BMW. Kizashi comes with 7 yr, 100k mile warranty, so Kizashi would still be more affordable.
@JetBlueIce I would say sales have been poor. YOY sales dropped tremendously through Q2 2010. BUT, to your argument, Suzuki has taken a completely new sales approach with the Kizashi over the dated and horrendous Forenza (fleet-style car). So I guess it is natural to expect slow sales in hopes it catches fire in new markets. I'm really hoping a V6 makes its way into the Kizashi. The added adrenaline, with the right handling & performance dynamics, and fuel consumption could become a hit. :-)
@mtech20 Kizashi isn't aimed at USED twin turbo 300hp vehicles, otherwise you would have to say the same about any NEW car by comparing it to used car prices, most people just don't shop that way they compare new with new, and used with used. Kizashi's aimed at new cars like 4-cyl tsx, A4, Accord, Mazda6, etc. At Virginia Intl Raceway Kizashi out performed all of those cars.
@racers115 Never said it was "aimed" at 300hp used vehicles. Merely making an illustration that if given $28K, I'd choose a 335i CPO over a loaded Kizashi, Accord, TSX, or A4. And I doubt I'm alone in that argument. A smart buyer would consider all the above, not focus on just new to new, or used to used. BUT, I'm sure we can agree that a factor in one focusing on new vs used and trying to max-out value, can be attributed to how long the intend to own the vehicle.
@mtech20 You don't need to get the SLS version to get AWD, there is the S version with AWD for $22,484, which still gets 8 airbags, smartpass, keyless ignition, dual zone control, same engine, transmition, an outstanding value.
Suzuki hasn't even launched it's full blow advertising campaign for Kizashi yet, they are only doing a limited test market trial getting ready for the nationwide campaign around the same time that the new 2011 Suzuki Swift arrives in the U.S.

nice car but this car isnt going to sell here in canada in the states I heard on other reviews and this starting price around 20000 but here its starting at 30000 nasty price tag shame because this car looks like a winner
@jet79637 They did have a test mule with the GM high feature V6, with an output of 280hp, it was faster but the added weight to the front end reduced the cars over all agility. I think they are gonna go for the 4-cyl turbo set up instead.
the car needs to sell good or else we know people aren't willing to try suzuki, i bet if this car wore a vw or even acura badge this thing would sell crazy! i mean 8.3 sec with auto that's pretty good for a 180 hp I-4! Seriously this thing should be on a lot of people's list to buy
This is the first really competitive car from Suzuki, glad to see that they're stepping up their game. Lots of cool features, clearly aimed at young people. I would consider one if I was in the market.
I like the Kizashi. Cool looking little car. I think the back of it looks like a Mercedes for some odd reason. The fake exhaust pipes are pretty awesome looking too.
"The Kizashi is easily the most athletic car in its class, and even a few rungs up. How do we know? We tested the Kizashi on Virginia International Raceway against competitors like the Mazda6, Nissan Altima, and Subaru Legacy, and even some cars a few classes up like the Volkswagen Passat CC, Acura TSX and Audi A4. Suzuki engineers worked closely with KYB to desing a suspension unique to the Kizashi, and they simply nailed it". -- Leftlane News --
Maybe with the addition of Direct Injection the engine will then exceed 200HP which would be enough for this car. Even as it is I would be happy with 8.5 sec 0-60. I don't want any turbos though. Something else to wear out and cost money to fix before the motor dies.
Very promising car!..I really like it....I still think the engine output could be more, considering the new Sonata 2011 2.4Ltr engine with 198HP output. Anyway, this car has very good style and the AWD option with CVT tranny, which is very good for the value. I think starting price around $19000.00 is very good!. This is a car to consider.
My parents bought an XL-7, which had a few problems, but that's solely because the dealer never told us it was in an accident, but it is a VERY solid car, not a single problem except for what was damaged in the accident. If my parents don't pass down that car, then I definitely would want the Kizashi to be my first car.
I'm an XL-7 owner i own a 2001, Its a solid SUV my mom gave it to me when she bought her colorado; The XL-7 is durable, I put mine into a snowbank 3 years ago and lost part of the front bumper and drove out;
Remember the 2007 on XL7 is not an XL-7 but a chevy equinox rebadge.
Ours is a 2002 and even with 'abuse' (we already put >122,000 miles on it) and it's still going strong, all I need to do is replace the catalytic converter. That's the reason I avoided the XL-7 Gen II, because of it's strong GM influence. The engine is powerful, but the reliability and quality scores for that, can't hold a candle as to something genuinely Suzuki. Still wanting a Kizashi, if not my parents' XL-7.
i'm up to 143,000 miles on my 2001 XL-7, I tore off the bumper when i ran off the road because of the ice, and i removed the third row seat so i could fit a push mower in the back easier.
I think this little car is pretty cool looking. It looks like a Corolla did some mating with a Mercedes or a VW and this car is the result. My one complaint is the push button start. Has America become so lazy that we can't turn a key to start our cars? Really? Other than that, I like the car.
@MacaroniKetchup Why do you care about something that insignificant. I think we ought to worry about our public school system rather than car innovation. Anyway think about it this way, next time you get in your car look at your ignition and see all of the scratches around it from using a metal key.... A push button feels better in my opinion and you dont have to feel around with your hand scratching stuff up to get your car started. Plus push buttons are back lit.
I see your point now. Push Button is more convenient and it is better than fumbling around in a dark car searching for the keyhole to start it. I still haven't changed my opinion about the car. I still think it is very cool looking. I especially like the "exhaust pipes" in the back.
Looks like a pretty good car and a good replacement for a little ford focus or honda civic. Did i hear dual zone climate control and push button start standard? not to mention a rockford fostgate radio and leather plus steering wheel controls and power seats!? watch out BMW and Audi!
Anyway, I hope it is better than Suzuki's of the recent past, which have been regarded as crap by the automotive press (besides, to a certain degree, the SK4)
bg1379, Suzuki has actually been given quite a few accolades pre-SX4. The Grand Vitara has been given compact SUV of the year by several automotive press. Suzuki has always been a company known to do things "against the norm". The Grand Vitara for example is the ONLY compact SUV with low-range transfer case for true off roading. They don't get great ratings because they're not cookie cutter...
Oh, c'mon. Please show me a specific example of where it won SUV of the year. I have yet to see that. Every single review I have ever seen have bashed it. And, lastly, the Wrangler is a compact SUV with far better offroad credentials.
This car would look much more appealing if it were longer, and shorter. The style is good, but the shape is just too tall and short, like a Toyota Yaris sedan. The rear doors also look VERY similar to those of a Yaris sedan.
But overall, i like this car. Performance is good, the interior looks very nice, good features, and i like the whole "sport-sedan" aspect of it as well.
if i were blind, this is a lexus

OK I just test drove a Kizashi SLS, it had the CVT. I was very impressed with the look, handling, and features for the money, but this car does have one very serious gripe:the CVT transmission. It took about 11 seconds to get from 0-60, and even if my figure was a little off, it just felt REALLY slow, especially from a start. I don't know what was wrong with it, but I really hope Suzuki either replaces the CVT with a regular automatic or fixes it. GET THE MANUAL!
kingdarius5252 1 year ago
@kingdarius5252 There is a flash update that can be done to the cars computer that corrects for the lag from 0 to 15 mph. You would figure they would do that at the dealerships right when the cars arrive but alot of dealers don't bother to do it. Either way though it's free to get it done since it's just a software update.
wppdoes 1 year ago
@kingdarius5252 : If you want to go fast then yes get the manual. All AWD have the CVT auto. If you use the F style paddle shifters on the steering wheel then you can still go fast. It still has 185 hp 4 banger which ain't bad plus the 29 mpg.....

IF suzuki do sell it here in the U.S. then i apologize for wasting your time.
sgirn507 1 year ago
@sgirn507 The Swift is set to arrive in 2011. It would have been here in 2010, but since Volkswagen/Audi have formed a new alliance with Suzuki, they decided to delay the arrival of the Swift to the U.S. while they figured out a joint product strategy between the 3 brands. If you haven't purchased your car yet, then you don't have much longer to wait for the Swift ;)
wppdoes 1 year ago 3

Nevertheless I will be seriously considering this car next year, perhaps a red GTS or sport
kingfarticus 1 year ago

I love this car but I HATE CVT transmissions! this car is otherwise perfect, just throw in a 6-speed auto or DSG and it would be really great. I wonder what they are going to do for a second engine choice....prob a large(ish) V-6 but a 2.4L h.o. turbo 4-cyl could make this a direct competitor to A4 and legacy with a much lower price! good job Suzuki (just remove the CVT!!!!!)
saab93driver 1 year ago
@saab93driver They were gonna use the GM High Feature V6 from the the Cadillac CTS, but that got dropped due to GM and Suzuki parting ways. I think at this point a turbo-4 is coming next. Suzuki and WV are now strategic partners so they are also studying the possibility of a small VW V6 in Kizashi if it can be done affordably. Check out the new Kizashi Turbo by RRM!

Hate to say it, even with Suzuki warranty & economy perks, that's a losing battle for a high-end Kizashi.
mtech20 1 year ago
@mtech20 I wouldn't say sales have been poor considering that Suzuki has done almost no advertising for the car yet and they have a very limited dealer network. It's about what you would expect considering those factors. And yeah you could get a used BMW sedan for 28k, but then factor in atleast 2k per year for maintinance and repair of the BMW. Kizashi comes with 7 yr, 100k mile warranty, so Kizashi would still be more affordable.
JetBlueIce 1 year ago 5
This has been flagged as spam show
@JetBlueIce I would say sales have been poor. :-)
mtech20 1 year ago
@mtech20 Kizashi isn't aimed at USED twin turbo 300hp vehicles, otherwise you would have to say the same about any NEW car by comparing it to used car prices, most people just don't shop that way they compare new with new, and used with used. Kizashi's aimed at new cars like 4-cyl tsx, A4, Accord, Mazda6, etc. At Virginia Intl Raceway Kizashi out performed all of those cars.
racers115 1 year ago 7
This has been flagged as spam show
@racers115 Never said it was "aimed" at 300hp used vehicles. Merely making an illustration that if given $28K, I'd choose a 335i CPO over a loaded Kizashi, Accord, TSX, or A4. And I doubt I'm alone in that argument. A smart buyer would consider all the above, not focus on just new to new, or used to used. BUT, I'm sure we can agree that a factor in one focusing on new vs used and trying to max-out value, can be attributed to how long the intend to own the vehicle.
mtech20 1 year ago
@mtech20 You don't need to get the SLS version to get AWD, there is the S version with AWD for $22,484, which still gets 8 airbags, smartpass, keyless ignition, dual zone control, same engine, transmition, an outstanding value.
Suzuki hasn't even launched it's full blow advertising campaign for Kizashi yet, they are only doing a limited test market trial getting ready for the nationwide campaign around the same time that the new 2011 Suzuki Swift arrives in the U.S.

Maybe with the addition of Direct Injection the engine will then exceed 200HP which would be enough for this car. Even as it is I would be happy with 8.5 sec 0-60. I don't want any turbos though. Something else to wear out and cost money to fix before the motor dies.

My parents bought an XL-7, which had a few problems, but that's solely because the dealer never told us it was in an accident, but it is a VERY solid car, not a single problem except for what was damaged in the accident. If my parents don't pass down that car, then I definitely would want the Kizashi to be my first car.
banstaman 2 years ago 3
I'm an XL-7 owner i own a 2001, Its a solid SUV my mom gave it to me when she bought her colorado; The XL-7 is durable, I put mine into a snowbank 3 years ago and lost part of the front bumper and drove out;
Remember the 2007 on XL7 is not an XL-7 but a chevy equinox rebadge.
Shishizurui 2 years ago
Ours is a 2002 and even with 'abuse' (we already put >122,000 miles on it) and it's still going strong, all I need to do is replace the catalytic converter. That's the reason I avoided the XL-7 Gen II, because of it's strong GM influence. The engine is powerful, but the reliability and quality scores for that, can't hold a candle as to something genuinely Suzuki. Still wanting a Kizashi, if not my parents' XL-7.

I think this little car is pretty cool looking. It looks like a Corolla did some mating with a Mercedes or a VW and this car is the result. My one complaint is the push button start. Has America become so lazy that we can't turn a key to start our cars? Really? Other than that, I like the car.
MacaroniKetchup 2 years ago
@MacaroniKetchup Why do you care about something that insignificant. I think we ought to worry about our public school system rather than car innovation. Anyway think about it this way, next time you get in your car look at your ignition and see all of the scratches around it from using a metal key.... A push button feels better in my opinion and you dont have to feel around with your hand scratching stuff up to get your car started. Plus push buttons are back lit.
flatblackstrat 2 years ago 2
I see your point now. Push Button is more convenient and it is better than fumbling around in a dark car searching for the keyhole to start it. I still haven't changed my opinion about the car. I still think it is very cool looking. I especially like the "exhaust pipes" in the back.

bg1379, Suzuki has actually been given quite a few accolades pre-SX4. The Grand Vitara has been given compact SUV of the year by several automotive press. Suzuki has always been a company known to do things "against the norm". The Grand Vitara for example is the ONLY compact SUV with low-range transfer case for true off roading.
