Seems like a great country and an even greater university. Seriously, what kind of university in the whole world will show you the image of the minute 3:44? They convinced me!
At this moment, I don't see myself living my whole life in Finland. Finland just isn't my place in this world. So what do I do? Sit here making hateful and untrue comments about Finland or start looking at my possibilities for study or work in another country? Hmmm....
Nice addition to the well made University presentation films from Finland, alongside the University of Lapland's last year released film "Me, You & Lapland".
this video is just another reason to love finland... i love finlad and i´m from México, i think finland is amazing and i hope one day to live in helsinki =) i like the video
Finds it amusing how people get heated up by this video... :__D Seriously, I live in gthe States right now, and I can say, that this level of education that they have is nothing compared to Finland. I mean, I have better vocab and english grammar than they do, and it's not even my native language! And just to point out: the studies mentioned in the film are just that: studies. The represent the opinnion of a selected group of people. Perhaops not yours, but it's not their problem, is it?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Foreigners should note that this is government propaganda full of lies. If this would really be true private citizens would make these videos. I don't think it is really any different than North Korea videos. There haven't ever been free health care in Finland. And Kristina was queen already 1640.
I just hate how negative some Finns are, every f****** time Finland is pictured as a good country, someone has to come here and moan about how much Finland sucks. Just stop it already! Is it so hard to accept that Finland infact is a good country? Things are so good in here compared to so many other countries so just stop bitching already, I'm tired of hearing it.
@gombie it's an ad! Should they have said: "We're an average OK country among others. We have good things and these are the bad things. If you want, you can come here, but you totally don't have to. Maybe you should go to Stockholm? I hear it's nice and probably prettier... Anyway, thanks for your time...Bye!"
I want to leave Finland immediately and go to Canada. What utter bullshit. Totally ridiculous. The only good thing was the speaker who spoke with a British and not with an American accent.
There is no such a thing than free education or free healthcare. There are just different ways of paying for those - and we selected to pay them through one of the highest tax rates in the world. Anyway, hard to see why those things need to be mentioned in the advertisement of a university.
@MrTJK86 Your message didn't make me depressed but you got my attention. What is peace of shit? Some kind of a historical peace treaty? I have never heard of it. Please answer, I want to know more.
Video is good. If you still wanna see how it's like, have a trip over here, it ain't the best place where you can be , but it will be good. Rest it is up to you.
The True Finns and many of the right wing parties in Europe are the best guardians against totalitarianism. But as far as I believe, I think they support the welfare state. Unfortunately.
The True Finns and many of the right wing parties in Europe are the best guardians against totalitarianism. But as far as I believe, I think they support the welfare state. Unfortunately.
education should be free for the most talented students but generally the students think they cannot wait too much from their teachers and professors as there is no such thing as a free lunch. you have to pay for quality and when you pay for it you can kick out poor quality. it is smart to bring foreigners to finland. if they are talented. they raise the level of education. if not, they should not get in. if they leave the country after their studies, they add to our foreign connections.
Education is free. It is normal for a state to provide free education to its citizens only. it is already amazing that education is free also for EU citizens. People in a state are paying taxes, as they explained in the video, to have free education (and services in general). Why people not paying taxes to a state (read foreigners) should have free services from that state? I find all the complains about tuition fees for non EU citizens quite stupid.
Looks like the people behind the video forgot the Finnish people's stubborn belief in their inferiority, which is quite well also displayed in the comments.
Try to tell a Finn that they actually live in very prosperous country, they will, without exception, try to debunk you with claims of poverty. Tell them Finland is one of the most equal places in the world, they will laugh in your face.
I hope this dissatiscaction (and quite frankly, lack of sense of proportion) also drives us forward.
"Free education for all" - for now. And "all" of course referring only to those from Finland or the EU. Because, according to the rhetoric of those who are/were arguing for the introduction of tuition fees for international students, the said fees would promote internationality. Go figure.
One other bit that was absolute crazy-talk was in the beginning, when the narrator praises the Finns' belief in the "welfare state". We believe in it! Right on! Good for us!
While, on the other hand, the Finnish governments have been very busy dismantling the welfare system over the last couple decades. Finland had a somewhat capable social security system -- in the 1980s.
I guess we do well if compared to N-Korea, but it's not like there's a non-stop celebration on the streets.
@meitsimeitsi and while you're complaining about the welfare-service in Finland. Go live abroad for a while. Most of the people in this world have access to no reasonable healthcare at all, but lets for a while forget about rural india, china and the likes. Even in most western countries the healthcare system is not on par with the finnish one, maybe in most of the scandinavian countries it is, but this means that Finland is still in the top 5% in the world.
@dizablade I was addressing the misinformation in the advertisement. Tell me, what do you think about these claims? Is health care in Finland _free_? Do Finns "believe in the welfare state", and more importantly -- is the Finnish government committed to the values of a welfare state? How well has it upheld these values during the last 20 years, in practical terms?
How is it a cause for jubilation if we do well when compared to rural India?
Education in Finland is (currently) free-ish, in the sense of no tuition, but not free as in "we'll give you all these university books for free".
Seeing a public health care doctor is much less expensive than a private one, but it's not "free" in the sense that the health center won't charge you anything. And of course, depending on what ails you, you may have to pay for a private doctor anyway because you can't get an appointment soon enough. Like in 6 months or something.
@meitsimeitsi You might want to remember that students in Finland are paid upto 500€ /month for studying (and covering expenses), are able to rent their books from libraries (for free) before you start trashing the system. In most universities that are in any way comparable to the Helsinki University you pay anywhere between $3000 - $30 000 per SEMESTER.
It's like you'd win a $50 000 car and would be complaining about having to buy a $2 Bus ticket to get to the store to redeem you price.
Yhtään helsingin ylitsepursuavaa erinomaisuutta väheksymättä, Kuningatar Kristiinalla ei ollut mitään tekoa helsingin yliopiston kanssa, vaan Kuninkaallisen Turun Akatemian. Akatemia sittemmin toki pakotettiin muuttamaan helsinkiin.
Love the video... but too much wrong facts and making Helsinki too beatiful... buahahaa... I live in Helsinki, but I love Turku. Film makers should have research the facts, but still like it how it was done.
