Lestat isn't gay or straight. Anne Rice never clarifies in the books but I think he's more of both. He just doesn't think about it the same way most guys or girls do and not just because he's a vampire. I always got the picture that Lestat just sort of did whatever felt good to him in the moment whether it be with a guy or a girl or whoever he's with at the time.

Anyway, who really cares? Lestat is a complicated, well developed, interesting character. Edward is not.

well, about Lestat's father: Anne Rice made the script for the movie IWTV , and she had to cut and modify some parts for it wasn't so long. So she cut Lestat's father, and replaced Louis' brother for mother and daughter. She cut Babette too... But, the movie was great.

In "family" you forgot that he made his mother a vampire, and their brothers and father hated him, and he suffered in his family when he was a child, except for his mother, that´s why in the 1st book, his father tells him to forgive him before dying, and because he burnt all Lestat's books for he didn't want Lestat to go to school.
