I guess the truth was too boring? 'When You're Strange' is so much better.
The movie is great. If you haven't seen it, do. It's not entirely accurate, but does portray Jim as well as the band and everything they went through very well. It's a beautifully told story, and it really does capture a lighter side of Jim, as well as the darker side.

I have this film and it is accurate in theory yet lacking in principle. What is the true nature of a man we've seen as a GOD? Just listen to his words and that will tell you. Morrison was a man of mystery yet that was one of his many appealing qualities. One film cannot do justice in recreating the story of his legacy. True. Oliver Stone is the epitome of the egotistical Director, and little things like "facts" cannot be allowed to get in the way of "the Great One" and his Vision. He did the same butchering of the truth in "JFK". If you learn your history from Mr. Stone--you are to believe that Kennedy was assasinated by a conspiracy involving: the FBI, the CIA, anti-Casto Cubans, Castro himself, the Mob, the Army, LBJ, the Ku Klux Klan, the KGB, and just about everyone in America (except Stone himself).

The beginning bit where they all say their occupations. That is so poor. Why did Oliver stone even try to replicate that. True. Oliver Stone is the epitome of the egotistical Director, and little things like "facts" cannot be allowed to get in the way of "the Great One" and his Vision. He did the same butchering of the truth in "JFK". If you learn your history from Mr. Stone--you are to believe that Kennedy was assasinated by a conspiracy involving: the FBI, the CIA, anti-Casto Cubans, Castro himself, the Mob, the Army, LBJ, the Ku Klux Klan, the KGB, and just about everyone in America (except Stone himself).

@Tinaalv I always thought that as well. I never knew why nobody else saw it. A Doors movie with Jason Patric and a director that respected and appreciated the true story of The Doors and Jim would have been actually...great!

& how do you know if Jim was conceited or not? Perhaps,you`ve spoken to him !!! It`s so silly,people ARE really a dull herd. You idolize him,whereas he was simply a person with wonderful qualities and of great value,can`t you accept that he might have had his flaws? It`s selfish trying to absolutely destort his personality - everyone has their own idea of what Jim was like! My guess is that he was aware of it,fascinated by people`s psychology :O

Umm, in real life Jim didn't purposefully rub in the word "HIGHER" in Light My Fire. He simply forgot to replace it. Like alot of others were saying, he wasn't a wasn't a huge jerk in real life! He could be a smartass sometimes, but can't everyone be?

Brings back memories. I was an extra in this flick. Best job I ever had in my life...did not pay much and the movie was kind of lame, but I got to see Robbie play Light My Fire. Val even looks like him ...unfortunely I endeded up on the cutting room floor, O_o, Poppawolf

In my opinion the actors did a phenomenal job, specially Val Kilmer, but Oliver Stone's work as a director/ producer ruined it for me. Terrible portrayal of Jim Morrison. Ray, John and Robbie should've stopped him before this movie was ever released. I wonder how it would've turned out if this movie were made by someone as intelligent and capable as Clint Eastwood? (Just a thought)..

The beginning bit where they all say their occupations. That is so poor. Why did Oliver stone even try to replicate that. The smoothness and suarveness of jim in those few seconds could NEVER be portrayed again. And pamela morrison? Um, theres not really any proof they were married. I get quite angry at this film, does jim nothing but discredit and diservice. The man was lyrical genius with a heart of gold.

I imagine Jim had many different sides, and perhaps he could occasionally be like some of the scenes in the movie when he got wild, but I doubt he was like that way all the time.

It starts good yeah, but then it all turns into a kind of soap opera, with Jim and Pam behaving in ways that I cannot believe really happened: I mean, 'the duck is dead!' for instance.. Pure drama that only happened in the imagination of the people that thought of this product. The music is good though. I justed hated the over the top acting that Kilmer made Jim look more and more like a sad clown in the end. Jim wasn't like that at all, not even in his last days! Those must have been 'strange'.

you know what ? I'm a huge doors fan, I mean i love every single thing about them, loved when you're strange, No one Here etc and i seem to be the only one who actually enjoyed this movie. I mean jim is portrayed the way stone sees him and isn't this what it's all about ? i mean we all see people how we wanna see them, everybody has a different perception of jim and it's reckless to say there's a "right one", so fuck it ! It's a good film, why does everyone's got to be so uptight about it ?

Oliver Stone should've read No One Here Gets Out Alive first. I read the book first before seeing the movie, and it really has a better representation of Jim and the band as a whole.
Even though Kilmer practically steals the show here...

Fuckin-A this was a horrible movie and I had driven almost 25 miles to see it! The only thing good about this movie was The Doors music. I was hooked on it after seeing this movie.

The Problem, The Big Problem with this is Jim is protayed as a psychopathic dumbass, when in truth he was a gentle, sensitive, and intelligent poet with a bad temper. Oliver Stone obviously did not do his homework.
