1 is a classic. 2 is incredible fun. 3 is very good but violent. 4 is ok although a ridiculous idea. 5 completely destroys everything by making it like a CSI episode. 6 reinvents Hellraiser with original concepts. 7 and 8 finish it off with a fizz rather than a bang

The Big problem with movies like Hellraiser is that you got suberb characters like Pinhead and one of the most amazing objects in the movie world like the Box - with lesser story writters and directed with minor directors and budgets. All those movies could have done so much better after 1 if got the proper attention that a character as Pinhead needs to go really big.

What they need to do is go low budget, forget the damn FX and concentrate on the themes/concepts of the original... and pay good money for a decent script... not just make it about Pinhead and the damn box. There could be an excellent Hellraiser movie without either of those two elements in it... but the studios will never let it happen.

@venusboys3 FX is what made Helraiser 1. One of the best scenes of HR1 was the 'resurection' of Frank. I somehow love "The Things" FX in the movies. But they should stick to the 80's style FX. And ofcourse the box should be in it ... it is the connection.

But they should pay good money for a good script in the first place.

David Cronenberg should talk to Clive Barker sometimes.

I like the FX in HR1 too... but I don't think they're what 'made it'... what made it were Clive Barker's concepts, the strangeness of the situations.

I like the boxes too but their only one of many potential connections. Their only a few hundred years old after all...

The comic series had lots of great stories that didn't feature the overt Hellraiser tropes and were quite well done.

It takes more than just Pinhead and a Lament Configuration to tell a good Hellraiser story.

Pinhead and the cenobites becomed figurants in Hellraiser sequels after the part 3.

They just appear to certificate that it's a Hellraiser movie, even if they dont do nothing.

After part 3? Bloodline has it's flaws, but I don't know how anyone could think it wasn't written as a Hellraiser movie. The plot has everything to do with the box, the cenobites, hell, and it was written by Pete Atkins, the same guy who wrote Hellraiser II and III.

Either you get Clive Barker or you don't. Nightmares have no purpose but they still exist. I am sure that Clive Barkers visions give those nightmares a sense of meaning. People that chronicle these things deserve praise.

I really wish they hadn't totally changed the story from the original script, which caused the original director to leave. I think it would've been better originally. I've only seen the first four films but this is my least favorite so far (I really like the others). Like Clive Barker and many other fans, I don't consider most of this film canon (especially Pinhead's death).
