Very nice images! I've had lightning strikes like this at the edge of my yard with a loud *POP* and thunder at exactly the same time, but they don't look as good as this one does.

That is a legit close strike... no lens reflection in that one... If you have DV tape, count time between flash and thunder sound... then calculate distance using speed of sound ... e.g. 1128 feet per second (at sea level, 70F)... if it was a half second between flash and thunder, then that is about 500 feet away.
