  • Stand wide on the return and block it down the line and watch the server return to the conventional toss, stance, and grip. It was entertaining though!

  • this is the gayest serve in the world!

  • so much for making this vid famous, just under 4.500 views... 6likes and 14 dislikes, its just not practical nor legal, there are several illigal serve that can be done that are impressive, the most interesting serve and it is acutally legal, is Brian Battistone's volley-ball inspired serve, very effective also1

  • i would just stand wide and block it back down the line considering hes practically in the opposite doubles alley... abitious effort though

  • wow what a dumbass that is an illegal serve

  • This is too energy consuming I'd like to see him try that in a 5 set match

  • How is this serve revolutionary? It's just an exploitation of the foot fault rules that will prompt ATP to revise the rules the moment anyone actually uses this, which is never.

  • (continued)

P.S. I also have abnormally explosive muscles which is a curse for my forehand causing restringing every other day but tennis is about more than strength like in your forehand video u have to focus more on understanding why certain shots need to be hit at certain times to cause the overall result. yeah u might win backhand vs. lefty forehand rallys but if there stupid enough to get jammed in one of those then they deserve to lose. you need grace, skill and understanding to succeed.

  • you do realize that even if this was allowed it hinders no one but the server. A serves biggest weapon isn't the angle itself but the ability to mask out wide and down the middle serves to catch the returner off guard with this all the returner has to do is position himself to hit the out wide shot every time since down the middle is out of the question. (to be continued)

  • I would say it is illegal, you can't run into your serve.

  • this is terrible. no different than where an angle serve out wide hits, and it hits with much less velocity. not to mention, it is illegal. I would defend this serve by callinng my opponent out on an illegal serve and taking 0-15. had this been a legal serve, the server leaves himself in a terrible position to hit the next ball, when the "un-returnable serve" gets returned by a player after the first game of play, when he has a chance to read the serve. dumb.

  • can't be walking/running before serves, only minor adjustment steps allowed (pinpoint stance). Check back with the USTA rules. Absolutely illegal serve.

  • I think some doubles profession players(brothers I think) have a similar server. They also use a racquet with two handles.

  • wow umm..FOOT FAULT!!!, and by slicing it down the line i mean look at all the margin of error he has?? and alot of people have good backhands or even forehands down the line hmm.. not very affective..

  • It is illegal to run during a serve, plus it almost gets no power to serve that way, only momentum.

  • that was already done in a lacoste advert.

  • I understand the serve and all. But WHAT IF the serve gets returned? What are his options having his momentum headed towards the net? Serve and volley?

I don't think he's gonna be balanced and be ready for a return with that kind of motion.

  • i really think that is the dumbest serve i have ever seen . its not that hard to return , hell my slice serve has more angle and speed than that , i dont care what anybody says i think this is another moronic video thats been mislabeled to gain " internet fame"

  • It is not easy to return even though it technically is an illegal serve. Let's see how well you serve.

Chris is starting to gain attention for his ambidextrous game. Thanks for your comment. Hammer

  • @TheHammerManOfGolf

yeah it's not legal because you can't take more than one step

  • It's not the first type of serve in the world. It's an illegal serve anyway and I doubt you could get as much power as a normals serve.

  • The idea of Chris concerning this serve was way more about angle than power. We understand that it is an illegal serve. However, it certainly shows great athleticism and this kind of leaping ability has worked its way into Chris' regular serving

  • i dont really see this working for singles but it would be interesting to see it at doubles. you would get into the net quick.

  • Tommy, this serve is illegal. However, it shows just how athletic Chris has become. This is one of the reasons he can jump so high on his regular serve as of late. Thanks for the comment.

  • i like the serve. it would be a fun serve to use in a casual match just to freak out your opponent. so what if its illegal, its still pretty cool.

  • This type of open mindedness on Chris' part is certainly raising his tennis skills. Check out his other videos. Hammer

  • This is a foot fault for the following reason.

from the ITF rules of tennis 2009:

Immediately before starting the service motion, the server shall stand AT REST with both feet behind (i.e. further from the net than) the baseline.....

During the service motion, the server shall not:

    a. Change position by walking or running, although slight movements of the feet

    are permitted......

  • So what that it is against the rules. We are having fun with Chris' athleticism and everyone is tripping out over it. He has a beautiful conventional serve. We have other posts of Chris'ability.

  • Stupid imo. He'd be laughed off the court doing that on the ATP tour. He'd be better off perfecting a more orthodox serve.

  • He has a regular serve and it aces lots of players. We are just having fun and everyone is getting all worked up about it. Check out our other videos of Chris.

  • wow! that's a lot of work for a serve out wide?

if you think it's such a great serve, then trying making some cash with it?

otherwise, all you got is a funny youtube video.

  • "how would you defend this serve?"

    by yelling "FOOT FAULT!"

  • This kid has incredible athletic ability, however according to the rules it is a violation. I applaud this open minded young man's approach to pushing the envelop and the beauty of his skills are fun to watch. Keep the posts coming.

  • I read the rules and I stand corrected that it is an illegal serve. However, this type of innovation is being incorporated into Chris' training and it will only pay dividends when he competes in tournaments.

  • So what if he is footfalting a bit, obviously your not looking at the bigger picture. Look at all the positives and you will be blown away. The kid is flying!!

  • The real question is, how consistant and how fast is this shot? This serve will never get very fast due to the fact that it is not an overhead hit and therefore you cannot get the same type of angle. This also means the chances for faults would increase. Also, have you never heard of receiving just behind the service line? Its not done in the pros because of the velocity of the serves but with this serve just stand behind the service line and tap it down the line. Notice his position after serve

  • Ths serve has plenty of speed to it . He is also very consistent with it. Your response to returning it would not be easy as you suggest. He also has the ability to go down the middle with the serve if the returner cheats over too much. The bottom line is Chris is having fun experimenting with his skills.

  • lol. It is a foot fault definitely at usta rule 18.a.

    18. FOOT FAULT

During the service motion, the server shall not:

    a. Change position by walking or running, although slight movements of

    the feet are permitted; or

    b. Touch the baseline or the court with either foot; or

    c. Touch the area outside the imaginary extension of the sideline with

    either foot; or

    d. Touch the imaginary extension of the centre mark with either foot.

If the server breaks this rule it is a Foot Fault.

  • Comment removed

  • Tennis players move their feet all of the time. Brian Battistone leaps into the court and he plays in the pros. I believe it is a legal serve.

  • read the rule again

They are talking about side line and centre mark. You are arguing about base line

  • 'Touch the area outside the imaginary extension of the sideline with

either foot". That's before you serve and also you can run jump or what ever before you serve as long as you don't touch the line which i did not soooo, you are a dumb ass my friend

  • I am sorry man, you did make three kind of foot fault in one serve motion.

    1. running during the serve motion against the rule a

    2. left foot on 51" clip touch the ground before ball come out the racquet against rule b

    3. left foot on 8" outside(above) the imaginary extension of the sideline against rule c

safin lost his game in AO because of the type of foot fault #3 around centre mark.

  • This is the most amazing tennis shot I've ever seen. How do you defend this shot!!!???
