@intangibledc The NHL has had 2 lockouts in a 10 year period I hardly call that anything to brag about this guy did way more to ruin the sport and the league than help it along because he doesn't know how hockey. He puts teams in these markets that won't sell tickets just to get TV deals and he's harassing any potential owners who are even thinking about moving one of those teams just to serve his big ego. The NHL has made big strides? Why did we have to make "big strides" in the first place?

@intangibledc I wasn't supporting Bettman with that statement, what I mean is that there are a lot more people that will sit down and watch the sport and take interest now, they have a lot more fans now that superstars like Crosby and Ovechkin are in the game, Stamkos ect. It's more entertaining in the last few years and people have recognized it is all I'm saying.

Come to think of it, hockey started to die down right around the mid-90s, coincidentally right around the time when this video took place & when Bettman took over.

I think the early 2000's was the worst for hockey, i mean there were years where no one would even top 100 points.

When guys were scoring 150 points like it's nothing, it was more fun to watch, the new defensive-style is boring. Although I have to say there is a little more scoring now than the early 2000s that you mentioned but not as much as the 80s/early 90s heyday.

Pittsburgh can work as a hockey city, ONLY when the team is a dynasty. Like the 90's with Lemiux/Jagr/Coffee and now with Crosby/Malkin/Staal. Canadian teams have fans without even one good player. Look at Toronto and Montreal a few years ago. Sold out every game and horrible teams.

actually under bettmen the league has become 4 times more profitable and beat the NBA's total season attendance for 3 straight years 2001-03, and has been at least 95% (of NBA atten.) for every year since.
players salaries have risen (above inflation) more then 8 times on average.

I lived in Manitoba for 3 years and spent nearly every weekend in the Peg. it's a great city and they love there hockey. sure it has cold winters but the "crappy weather" you call it, is perfect hockey weather. people living in the desert don't understand cold weather sports

Wings fan here too. Yzerman would be the man to do that job. He played when the game was still fun and understands how it's supposed to be played. I wouldn't want Lemieux in there. He was of the faction that didn't like the rough stuff. He wanted to be free of contact so he could score as much as possible. Chelios would be a great choice too.
