My 10 bolt and stock tranny has had a few 11 sec passes. Going to be installing a 3800 stall this winter and do some weight reduction to get it in the 10's with bolt ons and spray on stock trans and rear. Wish me luck, lol

running 10.90's on stock stuff isn't hard, you just won't do it for long ,, lmao, put enough nitrous on anything except most ricers and you will get 10's just not for very long, until you have a nice meltdown , lmao
@need2speed94 Yes to T56, and crappy corp. 10 bolts are standard. Some people seem to get great life out of them, most don't. I rarely launch mine hard, and it's really noisy. Been that way since about 70k, have 90k on it now. One day it will shit itself!

@leroyjenkins12345 heres what you do. buy a aluminum ls2 6.0, get a set of cnc'd l92/ls3 heads,fast intake, a big comp cam,headers and all the bolt ons. then you get a built 4l80 trans with a 4000 stall converter a 9inch rear with 4.10 gears remove all the v6 shit from your car and install all these parts with a set of drag radials on the back and just for fun add a 150 shot on top and then when you start crackin off sum bottom 9s your friends wont be talkin anymore! lol
@xyzdorky66 ok heres what you do! get the afr heads for your ls1 with a big comp cam and fast intake get headers and all the bolt ons. build a 4l60 with a 3600rpm stall with a 12 bolt rear with 4.30 gears. a set of mickey drag radials will help you plant the power and you should be runnin 10s all motor ls1. 150 shot will put you in the 9s but if you want to spray it you will have to drop the gears to 4.10s
@xyzdorky66 honestly to run 10s in a ls1 fbody this should do it. get headers off road ypipe with cutout. ls6 intake manifold, a nice comp cam(call comp and tell them your goals and parts) beef up the clutch and you may get a few passes out of your stock 10 bolt who knows. but you will need sum gearing like 4.10s and that should get you in the high 11s at least. then to reach your goal of 10s you will have to spray it with at least a 125 shot. this is a common setup with fbodys.

@crakavelly The gears in the car at that time 373's I believe stock gears for my car were 323.. not really sure.. I took them out pretty fast. Stock rear end.. didn't put the 12bolt in until a couple of years later.. only got 2 more 10ths out of the car after putting in Ford AOD with a 4500 converter. the 10 bolts are hit and miss more so miss but iv seen the stock rears in f-bodys hold their own on some cars but like most mine hade the axle bearrings go and pit the axles out never rebuilt it just went 12 bolt as should you guys dont ppore money in a 10 bolt it will break agian if you already brok it. besides he has an auto they are a little easeyer on the rears

it helps cuz it's keeping the engine cooler which means better power from a cooler engine and it's probably lighter and every pound counts when drag racing

Just like it has been said stock Gen III shortblocks cant handle 600hp+ yet there are a few pushing 800hp+. Hell there is a GTO pushing 825whp on a stock longblock LQ9 holding 19psi !!!
@LCPLVelten That knock was always there. After we changed the engine we saw inside the pistons were hitting. Ran great with the knock for a few years. Never had a problem with it until blew. LOL.
The hood is a sunoco. They have a normal version and a wide version. This one looks like the normal sized one. You probably don't like the look of the normal cowl hoods on these camaros for the same reason I don't, they look too boxy for the camaros sexy curves.
@mrdishaun easy to get big HP gains in those cars ... long tube headers $400 O2 simulators to eliminate cat's $100, zo6 heads $1000, zo6 intake $4-500, programmer $200 depending on what you get, underdrive pulley's $200 shocks and springs about $4-600, control arms and panhard bar 200, so many things to do to them, these prices are outdated, about 5 years ago when I bought my stuff. Best investment in my opinion get 4.56 gears and run a 6speed cheapest upgrade for best performance gain

I'm getting my 02' Z28 back from the shop this week. hopefuly the 4L60e and the ten bolt will last a while longer this time around. second time i've broke the trans and the third time I've broke the rearend. I guess they would last a while if you just raced the car occasionaly and never drove it on the street but I beat the shit out of my camaro. Its a CAMARO If you own one and you don't drive it like a lunatic you are a pussy and should sell it to someone who will.
The 1st gens could be had with a 8.5" 10-bolt (standard rear end) or the upgraded 8.875" 12-bolt rear.
2nd gens all got the 8.5" 10-bolt, which is PLENTY strong, even for 9-second cars...i personally know 3 guys running consistant 9's with stock 8.5" 10-bolt 2nd gens.
The 3rd gen (82-92) had either a 7.5" 10-bolt or a 7.75" 9-bolt aussy rear end...that same 10-bolt was found on ALL 4th gens...stock 7.5" 10-bolts have seen 10's MANY times.
Am I missing something, or did you prove a point in your response? Yes there are 10-bolts in the sub 10's, BUT 90% of 10-bolts will break waaay before you ever see that kind of power. Every real fast muscle car guy knows you have to opt for either a 9" or 12-bolt if you wan't a rear-end you can depend on. Most guys that have gone 'quick' with the a 10 have wen't through numerous rear-ends in the process. Good luck on being in the 5 percentile of sub-10 second guys with 10-bolts! ;-) LOL
Is it me or do all ls1 users tend to have the same problem? My neighbor who also has a f-body (a 35th anniversary slp camaro for that fact) blew his within only a few thousand miles and he bought it almost brand new as it was being sold as a collectors at a dealer so go figure lol
my lt1's still going strong at 139,000. i haven't' put any of my aftermarket parts on yet. before i do i'd like to get a complete read end to swap for the current on with 373 gears.
thats a pretty fast camaro for stock tranny and rearend... my buddy has what seems to be the same car in silver but runs a 10.8 on stock tranny and stock rearend... he also has stock exhaust though too.. i'd look into seriosu weight reduction before the new tranny and rearend you'll be surprised but i bet you put up at least a 10.3
haha, These idiots that think ford sounds better are obviously retards. A ls1 sounds like a friggin nascar on the street, and all ford does is drone at a low rpm, and fall on its face in high rpm. You can spend a fortune on those modular ford p o s's and get half the performance of an ls1. Buick 455 has the best sound. LT1 sounds almost as good as the Buick. LS1's sound is not as good as those two. A Cobra with a good exhaust does sound pretty decent. But open headers on a Cobra lacks. I am a GM guy but to me its Domestic vs. foreign.

it helps cuz it's keeping the engine cooler which means better power from a cooler engine and it's probably lighter and every pound counts when drag racing

Just like it has been said stock Gen III shortblocks cant handle 600hp+ yet there are a few pushing 800hp+. Hell there is a GTO pushing 825whp on a stock longblock LQ9 holding 19psi !!!

@LCPLVelten That knock was always there. After we changed the engine we saw inside the pistons were hitting. Ran great with the knock for a few years. Never had a problem with it until blew. LOL.

The hood is a sunoco. They have a normal version and a wide version. This one looks like the normal sized one. You probably don't like the look of the normal cowl hoods on these camaros for the same reason I don't, they look too boxy for the camaros sexy curves.

@mrdishaun easy to get big HP gains in those cars ... long tube headers $400 O2 simulators to eliminate cat's $100, zo6 heads $1000, zo6 intake $4-500, programmer $200 depending on what you get, underdrive pulley's $200 shocks and springs about $4-600, control arms and panhard bar 200, so many things to do to them, these prices are outdated, about 5 years ago when I bought my stuff. Best investment in my opinion get 4.56 gears and run a 6speed cheapest upgrade for best performance gain

nice car. I'm getting my 02' Z28 back from the shop this week. hopefuly the 4L60e and the ten bolt will last a while longer this time around. second time i've broke the trans and the third time I've broke the rearend. I guess they would last a while if you just raced the car occasionaly and never drove it on the street but I beat the shit out of my camaro. Its a CAMARO If you own one and you don't drive it like a lunatic you are a pussy and should sell it to someone who will.

Pretty sure its got a stall. No one yanks the front end up like that on a stock converter. Damn near impossible. I would probably guess a 4000 stall.

Uhh...no.
The 1st gens could be had with a 8.5" 10-bolt (standard rear end) or the upgraded 8.875" 12-bolt rear.
2nd gens all got the 8.5" 10-bolt, which is PLENTY strong, even for 9-second cars...i personally know 3 guys running consistant 9's with stock 8.5" 10-bolt 2nd gens.
The 3rd gen (82-92) had either a 7.5" 10-bolt or a 7.75" 9-bolt aussy rear end...that same 10-bolt was found on ALL 4th gens...stock 7.5" 10-bolts have seen 10's MANY times.

Am I missing something, or did you prove a point in your response? Yes there are 10-bolts in the sub 10's, BUT 90% of 10-bolts will break waaay before you ever see that kind of power. Every real fast muscle car guy knows you have to opt for either a 9" or 12-bolt if you wan't a rear-end you can depend on. Most guys that have gone 'quick' with the a 10 have wen't through numerous rear-ends in the process. Good luck on being in the 5 percentile of sub-10 second guys with 10-bolts! ;-) LOL

Is it me or do all ls1 users tend to have the same problem? My neighbor who also has a f-body (a 35th anniversary slp camaro for that fact) blew his within only a few thousand miles and he bought it almost brand new as it was being sold as a collectors at a dealer so go figure lol

thats a pretty fast camaro for stock tranny and rearend... my buddy has what seems to be the same car in silver but runs a 10.8 on stock tranny and stock rearend... he also has stock exhaust though too.. i'd look into seriosu weight reduction before the new tranny and rearend you'll be surprised but i bet you put up at least a 10.3

haha, These idiots that think ford sounds better are obviously retards. A ls1 sounds like a friggin nascar on the street, and all ford does is drone at a low rpm, and fall on its face in high rpm. You can spend a fortune on those modular ford p o s's and get half the performance of an ls1. It really doesnt make a damn if you like the sound of a ford or not because the ls1 will be so far in front that it cant hear your ass anyway!

Buick 455 has the best sound. LT1 sounds almost as good as the Buick. LS1's sound is not as good as those two. A Cobra with a good exhaust does sound pretty decent. But open headers on a Cobra lacks. I am a GM guy but to me its Domestic vs. foreign.
