@Ferrariman601 Simple... complaints and worse from the competition and manufacturers who are either behind on the learning curve or stand to lose money. The same thing happened to the turbine-engined Lotus' at Indy. USAC kept reducing the size of the intake until the engine h.p. was no longer competitive.
@holmd90 duh cuz 1. only mazda makes them and 2. it gave unfair lightweight advantages because they use 1/2 of moving parts than a lets say a 4 cylinder engine uses
Ahem. "Duhh" 1. It is true that only Mazda makes them in production cars currently, but that also means they only have their R&D to work with, not the results of many years spread amongst many companies. 2. Why is the supposedly superior engine being removed from the series then, when it is a better choice for racing, and this should be no more than a push for the other companies to either improve or convert. At the very least, restrictions could have been imposed to even the playing field.
@fargeeks I know "why" they were banned, and I know they were "unfair" due to their light weight, reliability, and efficiency. Why couldn't other teams use the engines in their vehicles instead?
who thought this when u seen this in gt5 or something else that it looks like a jet powered washing mechine lol i thought it was shit about a year a go but now it one of my fav cars on gt5
Must be hellish to race. The noise the fan engine generates is litteraly crazy. What about when the main engine kicks in - which what a V8 something...
@Tomasch The reason why it isn't used nowadays is because it would be too expensive to produce for road cars, and it would be deemed unsafe if fitted to race cars.
I saw this car race CanAm at WatkinsGlen with JackieStewart at the wheel. Not always the fastest on the straights,no one could stay with her in the corners,so they outlawed her. One major issue: after a few laps the ground effects vacuum system would just coat the entire engine bay with anything it could pick up off the track. Got to watch them fit Jackie with a new seat by pouring liquid foam between two sheets of plastic while he held himself up by his elbows. Thank you Mr.Hall for everything.
@Sexxonable Yes it was very intersting invention.... and by saying "this car sucks" I meant the aerodynamic principle did exactly that "suck"....That's all..
@radioclown85 lolz i noticed that 2 but have u ever heard a snomobile engine at 8k with no pipe? i wouldnt wanna stick around either i hope the v8 drowns out the other engine sound during the race i'd hate to listen to that thing steady at such rpm

Just think if the this WASN'T banned.
It would have ushered in a whole new era of automotive innovation, potentailly changing the direction of car design FOREVER.
Why does racing always turn its nose up at the most visionary designs?

@Tomasch In the 70's, this was a highly advanced and unique race car!! It is not a piece of crap
InfernotheFox 5 months ago
@InfernotheFox Highly advanced? So why does nobody use its technique today anymore? Maybe because it was crap...?
Tomasch 5 months ago
@Tomasch The reason why it isn't used nowadays is because it would be too expensive to produce for road cars, and it would be deemed unsafe if fitted to race cars.
InfernotheFox 5 months ago
@InfernotheFox ....so you see. It is too expensive, AND it is unsafe. So you could call it: Shit.
Tomasch 5 months ago
@Tomasch There is such a word as experimentation. Thats what chaparral did. And if you don't like it, then you obviously have no imagination!!
InfernotheFox 5 months ago
@Tomasch it got outlawed because it was too good. Remember the old racing phrase, "if you can't beat'em ban'em.

@otacon451 Fan engines do have alot of sucking power and should someone be too close to it, they could be sucked in.
