I agree but it was considered better and quicker from stop to play.
I too prefer Sanyo's idea (fom the VTC 5000 in 1982) of unlacing and taking the load away from the guides and head drum/heads for the fast wind modes.
The very few i've seen with worn heads on a Sanyo Beta are more than likely from owners overusing the dreaded 'head destroying' tape cleaner or trying to do it themselves.
Wow, ich wusste garnicht, daß der Band-Mechanismus so schnell läuft. Bei den beiden Geräten, die ich besitze, geht das fast in Zeitlupe. Ich schätze mal, da wäre eine Komplettreinigung angebracht ;)

What a foolish idea for the smart-arses at Sony and Toshiba to have their Beta machines keep the tape laced during rewind and fast forward.
At least Sanyo Beta machines unthreaded the tape - thus the heads are in far better condition!!!
