"FLCL" stands for "Furi Kuri" (basically, as if you pronounced the acronym in Japanese).

I think the origin of "Furi Kuri" comes from the opera song "Funicuni Funicula" due to the similarity between one of the character's (Haruko's) chant in episode 5 (furikuri furikura furikuri furikura~) and the chorus of the opera song.

Actually there are 2 mechs larger than the Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Because they were in a pocket dimension, everything was much smaller than it is in ours - if STTGL had been in our dimension, it would have been approximately the size of the solar system.

Beaten by:

Getter Emperor from Getter Robo, which could stand on TOP of our solar system and could actually get bigger

And Demonbane, in one of the many endings of the series of the same name, popped the universe. OURS.

This same planet was clearly visible in the head of a mech several lightyears tall in the pocket universe.

Finally, fatally, Gainax themselves said the pocket universe was smaller.

Chouginga, assuming the planets it was being attacked by were Earth-sized, would be about as big as a Jupiter in the pocket world. Jupiter is 41.6 times the size of the moon. So, in our world, TTGL would be 10 million/41.6 lightyears tall, or about 240000 lightyears - twice as big as the Milky Way. And then there's Chou TTGL...

Well, if you go by the lyrics, "heaven closing in" is actually a good thing. It means that humanity has the power to improve and solve any problem if we truly want or need to. That's why I thought it fit; because the running theme of TTGL is overcoming challenges by constantly rising to new heights.

That depends on what genre you're watching. In Shounen? Sure, all the time. But that's kinda the whole point about Shounen.

Other genres of manga and anime will have different values. They're out there, if you look for them hard enough.

It looks like it would fuction well as an extended opening or outro for the anime (maybe something that they'd play at the beginning, or the end, of a TTGL movie, say). The song certainly does seem to fit this anime well, based on what I know of it. Not bad, Ghost.
