@hurenbock5000 Portland seems to be a bit of an exception to that. A friend of mine tells me that it's pretty bike friendly. But I have never been to Portland, so I don't know.
The ppl who drive in SF are usually out of towners who commute from places like Oakland, San rafael and San jose. Every one else rides public transportation.
I lived there for nearly a decade and never met a san franciscan who liked downtown. Too many bums, yuppies, and packed with tourists buying tacky overpriced souvenirs on the weekends. One thing I've noticed about west coast people overall whether they live in Seattle or SF, is that in contrast with east coast ppl they are far less rude.
I've been there before like back in 2007. People seemed okay. There were a lot of hills on the streets. I mostly was around Haight St. And then I had to go back on the Cal Train back to Menlo Park.
@DerekLun plus the parking there really sucks and its wayyy to expensive, if you live in SF don't buy a car! lol I hate that... i can't live with out my car.... it cost money just to take a dump in that city.
In Manchester (UK) I once saw a blind man pushing the wheelchair of a disabled lady. She was helping him by saying which way to go and he was helping her by pushing the wheelchair.
The reason why people pay $20+ a day for parking is because 1. They get paid a lot and have the money to do it 2. There aren't any other options.
I used to work just a few blocks up from the loft.. pretty nice place. Go check out the Embarcadero and eat lunch on the grass with the giant arrow next to the bridge!

Wow, I want to visit San Fran then. The biggest city I've ever lived in is Warsaw and I've never seen anyone offer anything to anyone just out of pure helpfulness o_O.

I remember when my apartment didn't have its lift working for like 2 months, and our flat was on the 5th floor! I l made the same joke that I might get killer quads on my legs 'cause of all the walking I'd do over the time.
Didn't get the quads, but I lost some weight, even if I was only 65 kilo already :P
I just moved to the city, after living out in the country my entire life, and I was really surprised at how nice people were! It could just be because I'm a student, but they were actually very helpful. :)
i like how you say "check out my backyard" then make a holyness noise while showing a shot of some crappy brown warehouse. im sure theres soime other view you couldve used to make that point
@WiseWeeabo Hey douche bag. I know you think you're really clever, what with your use of capitals and proper grammar. But you aren't cool, so go make me a sammich, and get some lotion and some tissues. I have a feeling you'll be experiencing many lonely nights.
@oxBeatlesxo I'm surprised that you're holding grammar against me, perhaps women need to go out of their way to write properly with much effort, but atleast personally I just write how I know I'm supposed to, nothing more to it.
And yes, masturbating is pretty awesome, thanks- the only problem is that I need to use both hands for mine, and it can become somewhat of a chore... but that's basically the reason women exist so there's no real problem :)
@WiseWeeabo I'm not holding grammar against you, I'm only saying that it probably makes you feel clever, due to your intelligence level (or lack there of)
Men couldn't survive without women, they're a very weak species, and in the next 10 years or so, women will be dominating the corprate world while men....will be working janitorial jobs :)
The fact that you brought up your penis size tells me that you are either 12 and haven't seen a vagina, or just have a really tiny dick.
@oxBeatlesxo "I'm not holding grammar against you, I'm only saying that it probably makes you feel clever, due to your intelligence level (or lack there of)"
What you're "just saying" makes, in this case, grammar to be held against me.
But I guess now we're getting into grammar too deep for a woman to understand, but if you have a man around you can always ask him to explain it to you further.
@oxBeatlesxo The problem with women could very possibly have to do with their hormone situation, having a negative effect on their psyche, perhaps destabalizing it. Men have a much more stable life in that sense, meaning they will always have the edge in areas like logic for example... this is why men will always have the upper hand in a society, since darwinism holds true at every turn.
However, that also gives women some benifits... but none that matter in this conversation.
Don't drive in San Francisco. This is where the option to get public transit and/or walking directions through Google maps really comes through. Give it a shot.
I'm from Denver. The parking prices aren't too bad. My biggest problem is the traffic. Now I live in Colorado Springs about an hour south of Denver. Here it's not that bad.

To be an even better environmentalist, and also to save city space while at it, then I suggest riding a cycle whenever such rides suffice. Be it on a recumbent, collapsible, commuter, Dutch or Danish cargo, or whatever. My two cents are a semi–supine recumbent and Mr. BOB attached for fast, sleek and dynamic surface intercity commuting, … having Mr. BOB burden the loads. ;)
I've been just about every where on the west coast and my city experiences are pretty decent. Most people are really nice, that or they mind their own buisness. I've run into a few butt-holes though.
oh you're so cute in the city yet Nixie Pixel at home ... teeheehee good on ya . City experience? well , everyone wants to date ya or have sex with you ... other than that they want to beat you up.
I live near Philly... so yeah... Ass holes, basically. And parking is the biggest bitch ever. I very rarely visit the city -- I am not a city person, at all. I don't know how my sister lives there, lol.
Im from a small town in Rural Ontario, the nearest city (London) is a hour and a half away. I went to College near Toronto, and the transition to the city was NUTS. Parking, congestion, crazy bad drivers, smelly streets (Toronto during the garbage strike was nasty), etc, etc, etc. I now do work in London on call (commute), and the drive is always very nice until I get close to the city... Want to have a bunch of those drivers suddenly 'dissipate' into nothingness.
I'm in LA outside Sony Studio, Culver City with a tiny little production co. of my own. Wanted to share our little corner of California with you. Culver City is cool cuz we have Sony Studio which used to be the historic filming empire MGM. The Culver Hotel used to be John Wayne Hotel and they sell Prada next to the movie theater. So many stars, the rule is "two ships at sea" cuz everyone's off to Starbuck's to network and the Salvation Army for wardrobe! Total Syntax!! ^_^;;
City people experiences: Yes, they like to litter, I try to look for trash cans wherever. Most have been rude to me, they don't say hello if you greet them mostly (most older people do), and everybody thinks you're a weirdo if you are nice to them for no reason in El Paso.
But then you have exceptions; I was in LA once passing through and a girl offered me change, too, when I was short.
45lb up six flights of stairs? Sounds like a Wang-A-Thon! Meaning Wang computer, they were all heavy.
Hi Nixie, greetings from Wellington New Zealand. Been following your vids for a couple of months now, really enjoying your viewpoint of the world. Just want to say keep it up, you rock, but, whats with the llamas'?
Hi Nixie, greetings from Wellington, New Zealand. Been following your vids for a couple of months now, love your sense of humor and the content you post. Am a country boy myself living in the city. Can't fault it, it's where all the action is. (Although I live by the ocean so get my zen moments that way) Oh and btw, whats with the llamas' ?
california is good to the homeless californanana is good to the homeless....that sums up my experience with big cities san diego is cool but dont want to walk around there at night
Generally, people tend to mind their own business. I live in Vancouver and people are generally nice, if not a bit stuck up (myself included). Only people not minding their own business here are the mounds of panhandlers. :)
Cities are HORRIBLE. We are not created for communities of this size, and it alienates people, as little close social bonding can occur.
City? No thanks.

do you think people are nicer to women (especially beautiful ones) in the city? or is there actually some genuine kindness going on over there?

Sick of parking fees? GET A BIKE!

@PoliceState84
Absolutely! A bike! Parking fees are actually high to induce people to leave their cars at home.

Hi NixiePixel!! ^_^
I'm in LA outside Sony Studio, Culver City with a tiny little production co. of my own. Wanted to share our little corner of California with you. Culver City is cool cuz we have Sony Studio which used to be the historic filming empire MGM. The Culver Hotel used to be John Wayne Hotel and they sell Prada next to the movie theater. So many stars, the rule is "two ships at sea" cuz everyone's off to Starbuck's to network and the Salvation Army for wardrobe! Total Syntax!! ^_^;;

$600/month can rent a really nice apartment in some places. I can't imagine spending that just for parking!

Generally, people tend to mind their own business. I live in Vancouver and people are generally nice, if not a bit stuck up (myself included). Only people not minding their own business here are the mounds of panhandlers. :)
