  • Why did they discontinue the Eclipse?

  • I really love the 2nd generation GSX was the best. Then it was downhill after...

  • can anyone tell me why this magnificent car was stopped?

  • @gadgetguy4000 Because it got too expensive and too bloated for people who would be looking at the eclipse maybe? Fun, cheap coupe was what made the eclipse great. This last batch was neitehr fun with all that weight nor cheap. It was a coupe at least. Mitsu needs to get their head in the game and soon.

  • They well be missed

  • They forgot the affordable aspect to this car. It became more bloated and costly after 2000. What mitsu needs to do to turn around is to make a new eclipse that is ACTUALLY AFFORDABLE (lancer RA engine, manual gear box, FWD, coupe sheetmetal should do). Bring the colt and colt RA and you have a kick ass entry level again. Then take the time to make a proper galant. A midsize car people would actually want for when the kids who had a blast with their colts, eclipse and lancers grow up.

  • @ColdNapalm42 thank you the only time mitsubishi made a poper when they had the vr4 from 1990to 2002 and we didn't even get the last vr4 ,and u also rite about the eclipse but add two more thing make it 4wd and turbocharge.

  • @xsmith56 The RA engine is a turbo engine. The issue with AWD is cost. It could be an option you can add on maybe...but you need a cheap base for the young kids to get into the cars.

  • Mitsubishi - you better wake up. This not something to be celebrated. Other than the Evo, or Lancer, your line up is a disgrace and shameful. Nobody is interested in the I-MEV golf cart, or anything else like it other than nerds. Get back to your roots and make cars that people actually want.

  • I own a 99 Spyder that is still going strong- still love it!!!

  • Too bad all of the eclipses sucked balls after the 2nd gen.

  • Oh, no this can't be true. I love my little midnite rider - I get so many compliments on this little car. I bought it used and have not had one problem with it. Why would they stop making such a great product!?!

  • Rumor says there is going to be a new line of coupe that is AWD Turbo! Not sure 100% but I'll be getting one.

  • i have the 91 eclipse

    still running great :)

  • Mitsubishi should have retired the Eclipse correctly by releasing a GSX model in the last year produced. 3.8L with awd, hell I would have bought one! Even if it shared the drivetrain with the Evo, that would have been a true tribute to Mitsubishi history..

  • thank god you killed it off before you could butcher it more than it already is

  • Bye bye fun-guy :^/

  • But there will be a new eclipse right? Do the last one but CHANGE the front headlights

  • Interesting how many people would lecture MMC on the foolishness of not offering every model in turbocharged, all-wheel drive trim, yet never actually purchased one new.

The 2GNT DSM outsold the GST/GSX/TSi/TSiAWD by almost 10:1. Those who want a turbocharged, AWD Mitsubishi today should go by the new Galant VR4, I mean, Evo X.

But don't take my word for it. I only put 210,000 miles on my base model Talon over 12 years before moving to a pair of Galant VR4s. Shoji Komei.

  • I would like to buy a 4WD eclipse with turbo.

  • Killing off the Eclipse? wow ok, kill off the Galant while you're at it as it probably sells even worse than the eclipse.

  • @R8Prototype already done

  • Here at Mitsubishi, we strive toward killing off each one of our symbolic cult cars one model at a time. Next up, Evo.

  • @ApexIXMR They already stopped producing the evo before the eclipse and galant. Rumor has it theyre making a hybrid tho

  • @Dekropttiv

Lancer Evolutions are still being produced. I don't know where you got your info from because it's wrong. Several members on the forums have 2012 models that are being produced and arriving in the next two months. It still has a little life left in it.

It has been officially hinted that they will continue the Evolution line with Hybrid/Diesel drivetrain. But Mitsubishi should realize is that a move like that will ultimately kill it. Having owned two Evos (IX,X), trust me.

  • @ApexIXMR Oh rly? I heard like last year theyre done with evos till now. Idk not a huge mitsubishi fan, more of a nissan boy. ;) Only into mitsubishis cause my sis. I know...weird? xD

  • @Dekropttiv the evo is still in production, they said they were going to stop but then said less than a month later the were going to continue until at least 2014(i believe)

  • its not as disappointing to see it end considering mitsu killed that car back in 2000 lol

  • NO NO NO NO MITSUBISHI NO NOOOOOO! Why would you do this!? Why cancel the Eclipse! For god's sake are you guys not thinkin right? This is one of the best selling and key cars for Mitsubishi, you should have brought back the AWD turbo eclipse that we all fell in love for. But cancel it? Besides the Lancer, what else was better than the Eclipse? So sad to see it be gone, hope you guys come up with something better.

  • Build an eclipse off the lancer, a 2 door evo would ignite some sales.

  • so the eclipse is canceled?
