  • Great drummer!

  • definitely belong in the hall of fame..great harmony AND all 3 can sing lead.overlooked song #12...top ten material

  • All 3 of them sing a verse here. I wish they had done that more often :)

  • that keyboard riff kills me. seen these guys in '82.

  • AWESOME!!! One of my favorite groups that I am lucky enough to have grown up listening to. I agree, the "stuff" they play today cannot come close to this raw talent-real voices, real instruments and it doesn't sound just like the rest of their songs. (the drumming is pretty fricken amazing!) Thank you for posting this great song!!

  • @cloudchaserify I like you feel very greatful for growing up listening to this group and many others from that era. It was a great time to grow up with such great talent. The singers now need to really listen to and follow the tracks that this and many groups like them have laid. Also it is my pleasure to have these great songs in my collection. Thank ypou for taking the time out of your day to listen to what I upload :).

  • TDN IS CONSIDERED POP, NOT ROCK, BY THE CRITICS..........WHO CAN BITE ME

  • from 0:00 to 3:30 is the best part of the song

  • 70S WERE THE BEST TIME OF OUR LIVES....KEEP TRUKIN YALL

  • Yes they belong to the hall of fame put them in .

  • Floyd Sneed is one of the greatest ever... I remember seeing them in concert 40 years ago, this drum solo was long, they all walked off the stage and he just went off for about 4 or 5 minutes.

  • You're right, the drumming on this song is phenomenal. I always liked this band. Their songs were always on 68 RKO in Boston in the early 70's. I kind of lost "respect" for them after "Jerimiah was a bullfrog" though. I ready Neil Young's biography a few days ago and in it Neil mentioned that he travelled in the same circles as 3 Dog Night, so they're cool with me again, because Neil is the coolest. It's all show-biz.

  • Damn, this should have been a huge hit. Why it wasn't, I'll never know.

  • dig Floyds Hi ass Hat shuffle

  • A great tune man. Chuck Negron still is the man when it comes to this group. Even though he had his faults and served 10 years in prison for drugs.

  • @brotherdoug63 More than that Anthony chick

  • Their harmony was unbeatable. Song's beautiful. This one and Out in the Country particularly.

  • @windyazdesert The harmonies on this one give me chills :)

  • Listen to Floyd Sneed's drumming. So great :) :) :)

  • Love this. All 3 get to sing lead on a chorus :)

  • Since when was Three Dog night "underrated" ? They were a very big band back in the day and got lots of props and success. That the band broke up and the members never really got back to the heights they did as a group is most unfortunate. So newcomers might not be aware of how big they really were.

  • are these guys in the hall of fame or did the hall fuck up again -

  • @nutbagbrew102 They fucked up again. They aren't nominated this year either. Assholes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @tjerwin1 Saw them saturday night for the upteenth time. Excellent. No -- if they wanted to get into the hall of fame, they should've came out and bitched about the war when Bush was president. That would've got 'em in.

  • @tjerwin1 Perhaps the reason why they weren't nominated is because the judges don't have good taste in music. Three Dog Night, IMHO eclipses all the c-rap that is out there today. Nothing like the 1960s / 70s music when it comes to true talent.

  • @Helivz I totally agree. The "noise" that is played today, is just that...NOISE. I won't qualify it as "music". Rap is crap. Man, there are SO many varieties and types of music, there is no real talent out there anymore. What happened? The poor kids wouldn't know "good music" today if it came up and bit them on the butt! So much for my soap box.

  • @nutbagbrew102 It's strange, I'm going to see these guys tomorrow night and I'm wondering why it's going to be so easy to see them. I should be buying a ticket for 200 bucks and be happy sitting at the top of the arena. Instead,. I'm gracious to be outside the Terry Redlin building in Watertown SD.

  • Sounds a lot like 'It's All Too Much" by The Beatles. Still a great song on it's own.

  • One of many great classics by 3DN. However, this song is from their 'Harmony' album, not 'Cyan'. It's very rare to hear a 3DN song on mainstream FM radio these days and, unless one owns 3DN records or has access to 3DN uploads on YouTube, (s)he must subscribe to a satellite or cable music service to hear 3DN music nowadays.

  • this song sounds like it belongs in the beginning of a sitcom.

  • I will never forget that when me and my GF's all three of us pulling up at school on our Schwins and some guy said oh look it's 3 dog night.

  • wats the matter with everybody wonderin what the background lyrics r at the end of the song ,u can imagine it to b anything. , as they didnt even know,. so hard, family of man, means end of time. these guys were fed songs with prophetic meanings, thats y chuck went mad! /tired city, 4ever highway & the devils 2 blame?/ this song could b written an hour ago . t.d.n. just put filler in , thatsall. c u on mars

  • @tommieparch Like the commode flushing at the end of the song "Sure As I'm Sittin Here'? Not sure how prophetic that is...but I laughed my ass off the first time I realized what it was...which was after several hundred times listening to the song.

  • @shilo901 yeah , u get it.

  • @shilo901 The 'commode flushing' was at the end of the full-length version of 'Sure As I'm Sittin' here' only. It was edited out of the shorter version of that song. I could only find one upload of the full-length version of 'Sure As I'm Sittin' Here' and it featured animations of zoo animals. Anyway 'Family of Man' is a great song by 3DN which is rarely played on mainstream radio these days.

  • Cory, Danny and Chuck all get to sing lead on this one :) :) :)

  • I always thought this sounded a little like "It's All Too Much" by the Beatles.

  • These guys had SO MANY wonderful songs! This is just one of many! They should be in the RNRHOF! Just wish that all THREE of them would get back togeather, though I don't think that will ever happen. This version is better than the live one. It's tempo is just too fast. Thanks!

  • Unless I'm mistaken, they are NOT in the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame, while

Madonna is. If that's the case, it's a travesty.

  • Maybe not their best known song, but possibly their best.

  • Hope I got this right--the vocal order is Danny, Chuck and Cory, right?

  • @RoyFive Yes, that's the right vocal order, RoyFive.

  • 1st concert I ever saw, West High auditorium in Anchorage Alaska, 2nd was Ted Nugent same venue.

  • @1bone7 cool

  • I love this song.....great harmonies....vocals and instrumentals mixed so superbly together.....can't get enough of them!!

  • especially appropriate in the era of BP and the uncapped spill...

  • Yeah, chemtrails anyone? Time's running out for the family of man

  • these are MY BOYS...I didnt know all three took turns singing lead on this one..wow beautiful..i jus watch the live version and shows u which one is singing which lyric

  • @MrBEB123 Great band, great song, but wrong album cover. "Family of Man" was on their 'Harmony' album, not 'Cyan'.

  • GREAT SONG EVEN AFTER ALL THESE YEARS

  • That man can drum. Positively superlative. And creative as hell. This would be a good song without him...but it is the drumming that takes this song to the next level.

    What an icon!

  • Good song.

  • Anyone know what they are singing right at the end?

  • I am not exactly sure what you mean. I hear "So hard family of man". There is background lyrics going with it if that's what you mean. If that's what you are talking about I could never make it out. I would like to know also. I will try to find out what they are though if I can.

  • Yes, starting about 2:36 -- "running out ..."? then interspersed with "family of man." I've never been able to figure it out. Thanks.

  • @tjerwin1 running out time is short

  • @TheDavey222 I listened to it and you are absolutely right about the lyrics. I an't ablieve I'v missed it after all these years of listening to this song. Thank you.

  • @TheDavey222 You are right, but there's something else there too, butI can't quuite make it out!

  • @TheDavey222 I agree. This is one song that is such high quality that it should have been extended another minute and a half. Saw Chuck Negron in concert last January aboard "The Norwegian Sun Cruise."

  • @tjerwin1 Towards the end of the song they are saying c,mon out to our next show.

  • @tjerwin1

running out time is sure running out time is sure

    Family of man (in background)

  • yes, they are saying: running out, time is short

    running out, land and shore

  • Thanks.

  • @vjscruffy The first line is a form of reprise from an earlier verse; 'runnin out of time, it's true', runnin out so badly' ....damn, do I love this band. Floyd Snead's drumming just kills me.

  • @vjscruffy I'm almost postive it is "Be sure to drink your Ovaltine"

  • @vjscruffy In the background of "So hard, family of man", they're singing "running out, time is short" and "running out, land is short". After that, I couldn't make out the last verse before the song fades out. Hope that helps! I'd like to know the words of that last verse as well!

  • @vjscruffy Memories replacing the loves that are lost

Burning our bridges as soon as they're crossed

Factories built where the rivers ran

And time running out for the family of man

    So hard,,,

So hard, so hard, so hard, family of man, so hard, family of man, so hard, family of man,so hard, family of man,so hard family of man,,,

  • @vjscruffy It's Cory Wells.

  • @vjscruffy ---Does it matter?

  • @vjscruffy soooo hard sooo hard

  • @vjscruffy C,mon out to our next show.

  • @vjscruffy They are saying, that Obama and his

New World Order are going to destroy you and

your family, but don't worry, Americans aren't

going to let that to happen, so just get out of the

    way, heroes are marching through!!!!

  • @fntime you are out of your mind.

  • @fntime good sarcasm there...has to be sarcasm 'cause dem hero's are just worthless.

  • @vjscruffy Not really sure, but part of it sounds like "Runnin' out-Time is short..." "Runnin' out-So badly..." "Help them out-Land is short..." "Help them out-Time is short..."

  • No, Three oxs right???

  • This is the perfect 3DN song. Three verses (one for each of the leads), and a 3 part harmony chorus. And the backing band never sounded better.

  • Seen them 3 times, once with original line up in June 72. 2 more times in the early 90's. Both great shows. No Floyd Sneed, but did have Mike Allsup the last time I'd seen them.

  • no floyd sneed,no three dog night.

  • he had another group called ss fools with the guitar player they were on american bandstand

  • By the mid seventies they had made a few changes in the line up, Floyd snare the drummer departed and I think the base player left to. Still they were and always will be a superband!

  • Saw them last week live at the O.C. Fair! They were great!! Haven't had that much fun in a long time...they haven't lost a step!

  • Arguably the best Top 40 American band ever...they also had a great backing band with monster drummer Floyd Sneed keeping time like a human metronome.

  • That is one damn great band they had. Floyd Sneed on drums...dude just kills on 'em....

  • caught these dudes at a county fair in the 90's, everyone in the band was either an complete jerk or drunk, or both (doin my best to keep it clean)

  • This song is so fabulous, with Danny, Cory and Chuck all getting a lead vocal instead of just 1 of them. Don't ask me who's the best, they're all great :)

  • I saw Danny Hutton solo (pre 3 Dog Night) on American Bandstand. At that time I had never heard of him, but look how it all turned out!

  • Very fortunate to see Three Dog Night in concert in Pocatello, Idaho in 1974. (Saw 3 "full moons" and a "streaker" too, the same night! LOL! Saw America tonight at our county fair! They were/are still GREAT! Wish 3DN would come back to Idaho...

  • I still have the 45" single of The Show Must Go On when I was 7!!!

  • I saw them in 1970 in Champaign, Illinois. It's still one of the best concerts I have ever seen!

  • I'm only seven hours away from hearing - "Cedar Rapids, are you ready? Are you ready for THREE DOG NIGHT!" Hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!

  • gonna' see Three Dog Night in four days in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. With special guest America.. gonna be great!!!

  • Another great one.

    Faved it.

  • Who's PG&E?

  • Pacific Gas & Electric.........one hit wonders.

  • you must be schitzo or high.

  • I saw PG&E in our gym in 1970, they did Are You Ready. It was cool. At Kirkwood, MO

  • Chuck & band were at a fundraiser for an abused women/children shelter in my hometown several yrs ago. It was an OUTSTANDING show. He talked, sang a medley of his own music &TDN tunes, joked and sang some more. This concert was all we could've hoped for n'more. Afterwords he chatted n'signed his books & shirts - Wow was he nice! I read his book, and reflected at how we ALL are so lucky he came out of addiction alive AND still w/his great talent. Pray for his family that they recover too!

  • Great song

  • Ditto,,excellent,,RWB

  • Great song!

  • How prophetic ...

  • Ah yes, 3 Dog Night - so underrated yet so superb.

  • @TheSmileFetcher1961 Yes superb..but not underrated there were the top concert grossing band and had themost chart success of any other band in the early '70s. Those 3 part harmonies bring back a lot of great memories.

  • @TheSmileFetcher1961 I agree VERY underrated but still one of the best musical acts EVER, in my opinion. Top 5 ALL TIME, again, in my opinion. They had 3 very talented singers with amazing voices. Too bad Chuck had to go and screw everything up by not being able to handle success. Wish they would get back together and go on tour. I saw them in concert EVERY time they came to El Paso since way back in 1972 and have never been dissapointed. God Bless 3 Dog Night and long live their music!!!

  • 3 Dog NIGHT was not underated as I remember. However great groups were coming out of the walls not like now. The 60s & 70s had super groups. HOwever they were one hot group. The Family of MAn could use some good advice these days especially about music & art.

  • TDN never received credit for their music like they should have. They were excellent musicians and vocalists. One thing that probably hurts them is rarely writing the songs they performed.

  • During the summer of 1975, between my junior and senior year, these guys did a concert in my high school gym. Did I bother to go? NOOOOOOOOO. Stupid! What was I thinking; or NOT thinking?

  • im sorry to hear about chuck ,my wife and i went to most of the concerts in los angeles in 1970's. we're still together i wish they were too.say a prayer for chuck and his family...

  • unfortunately, I recently saw Chuck on, I believe "Intervention", going through some of his old substance abuse issues with his son, Chuckie. Very unfortunate.....

  • I Chuck the one with the big stache???

  • Yeah

  • According to his book "Three Dog Nightmare," Chuck tried several times to get back with them after he got clean and sober, but they weren't interested. Cory Wells reportedly said, "I've been giving them hamburger so long that if I give them sirloin, they'll never want hamburger again."

  • It just shows how jealousy can make you cut off your nose to spite your face.(in cory's case)

  • "Out in the country" sounds like they're all singing in unison.

  • It's just a fabulous song; moody, emphatic, artistic, peaceful. It's arranged and performed so well, it's a bolt of lightning to the memory every time one hears it. A bright spot during the wretched years of junior high school. Anyone else out there who feels the same? Yeah, those years sucked, but they were cool, too, in their own way.

  • this band had a vision into the future with this song.... i'm telling ya!!!

  • he's a christian now. he knows his limitations finally.

  • true.

  • Um this song can put you in mind of the Beatles song with a little bit of the melody, but I don't think it's a rip off of it.

  • @tjerwin1 Yeah like Its all to much by the Beatles but I dont think its a rip off either

  • @tjerwin1 The song by the Beatles you're thinking of is "It's All Too Much" From the Yellow Submarine Album. I always thought Three Dog Night ripped that melody off for this tune.

  • this song rips off It's All Too Much By The Beatles. Although it's a good song.

  • the beginning of this sounds alot like The Beatles, All too much song, I just realized it.

  • Amen to that!

  • I was on my way to California when this song came out...hitchhiking...rides with interesting people on their way somewhere...just pulling over to help you on your way...then the 80's came and everyone became "me" "me" "me"...be great to get back to the beginning

  • How did the Hippies of the 70's know so much about the future of mankind?

  • cool song

  • great song, march of 1972 on my way to southeast asia...

  • These guys are timeless, could possibly be the most underrated group ever...

  • Some parts of this song sound like the Beatles song It's All Too Much"

  • Memories Galore !!!

  • seen these guys in 1974 was an awesome show. Their drummer Mr. Floyd Snead what a drummer used his hands on his solo totally cool. 3 Dogs Rock!!

  • Hey journeylive could you please tell me who the vocalist was on this song when you saw them? I'm also wondering who the vocals were one: 1. Celebrate, 2. Never been to Spain, 3. Sure as I'm sittin here, 4. One man Band, 5. Out in the Country. I have an idea but I want to make sure. I would appreciate if you or someone else out there knows.

    Thanks!!

  • well its hard to say really. Chuck took on alot of the songs and Danny and Corey did trade off-according to what song sounded better with whomevers voice fit. Yeah well let me guess I really am not %100 sure but heres my guess: Celebrate(corey wells); Never been to spain(corey wells)3.Sure as Im sittin here(chuck Negron)4.One man band(Danny Hutton) and No.5 Out in the country(corey wells) and the lead singer on this tune was(danny hutton). Hope this helped?

  • They had a deal were whoever found the song gets to sing lead.

  • This song was first verse-Danny

    Second verse-Chuck

    Third verse-Cory

Celebrate had the same order. Never Been to Spain and Sure As I'm Sittin' Here are Cory.

One Man Band sounds like the three of them together ( The "I just wanna be" part is Chuck). as does Out In The Country.

  • Yeah ... you are right. I can hear it now. I figured out Celebrate. I didn't know that Chuck sang Out in the Country. Thanks!!!

  • Out In The Country is the three together.

  • He had a group called SS Fools with the guitarist they were on American Bandstand.

  • I seen them in Yakima Wa. Love em!!

  • nice
