It's a great entry level 6 string for $400. 24 frets and a 3 band EQ at that price range is almost unheard of. My only hang up with it was the back of the neck...it had a polished finish which I hate on any bass. It sounds great though and for the price it really can't be beat. I'd say go for it but just like any other bass you should try it first if you get the chance.

I just bought a D-4 btw and love it. I guess you played this perfectly. Such a simple but beautiful song, it's kinda hard to screw it up.

Lol I know...playing bass relaxes me so I usually look pretty bland when I play. I've had several comments about that though so I guess I need to liven up my playing in my future vids =P

And it is a beautiful song. I'm making a medley of a bunch of Sting's basslines soon that are simple yet beautiful.

I don't own a precision bass...and Sting's tone in this song is pretty dark. Not a lot of treble at all.

Really simple signal path: Bass -> Axeport Pro -> Reaper. No effects (I don't own any). In Reaper I've definitely EQ'd it. If you're having trouble hearing your bass you need to boost some low mids and cut some lows on the original track. Also, a bit of compression wouldn't hurt. I typically do a 2:1 ratio and keep the threshold fairly tight to keep things even. You can Google "audio mixing" for more help, but that's the short of what I do. Hope that helps.

This recording I used my webcam, but in my most recent videos I use my iPod Touch because it records 720p video. But yeah, the concept is the same, record the audio and video simultaneously then sync them later. I use Pinnacle Studio 14 for my video editing.

It's in the same weight range as all the other 6s I've played. Probably 10.5-11 pounds. I'd recommend it even though I wound up selling it. It has a polished finish on the neck (my Sterling has a satin finish that is really smooth) and I couldn't get used to it. That's just a personal thing though...most basses have polished necks.

It's the body woods. I forget what the D-6 is made out (Merbau I think) but it's a lighter wood in general. An SR506 weighs just a tad less than this bass. As you can tell I'm not the biggest guy in the world and the weight never bothered me.

I'm going to buying this bass soon.... Is there any buzzing whatsoever on the B or E strings? and how is the action? a little high is perfect for me.... It just can't be to low. I refuse to buzz

It depends. I immediately replaced the strings on it because the ones it came with were AWFUL. These are D'Addario XL's. They don't buzz at all, and I never had any buzzing problems when I had the bass (I eventually sold it for a 5 string). If you get the bass, put new strings on it, and it buzzes, you can take it to a local tech or Guitar Center and they'll fix the action for you for like $15. Easy fix.

@Tooltrocity thx for the great info and quick reply.... There is surprizingly only three videos one the entire internet with this bass in it. and there wan't one at the guitar center for me to personally test... But it has everything I need at an oustanding price... This is the bass for me...

No problem! I bought this bass sight unseen and without playing it and I loved it. I just didn't have the patience for the learning curve at the time. Just make sure when you buy it you put new strings on it and get it professionally set up and you'll love it.

@Tooltrocity I will definitely get new strings, but it might take me a couple months to get it intonated.. Does this bass need tapered string or are regular fine? The bass I have now will only take tapered strings, and makes them prone to snap easier due to the tension when I tune up a 1/2step to C standard

Nah, it's a string through body, but I don't think the D'Addarios I had on there were tapered. They were normal strings. I don't think you need to buy tapered strings for them.

Heavy, no. I remember it weighing a bit more than my Sterling but not by much. Just over 11 lbs. Low end isn't booming either as long as you don't get stupid and crank the bass full blast. If you don't like the amount of low end you're getting adjust it on your amp for better results. Also, if you have a compressor, that'd help even more. You really can't go wrong with the D-6.

@Tooltrocity Thanks... that helped alot i might consider buying this bass. Im trying to make a decision between this and a dean edge. I already have a dean edge 5 string bass but i wana by this because i heard the Eq tunings are pretty good. Guess i have to go to guitar center and give it a shot.

Glad to help. Honestly, though, I've never seen them at a Guitar Center. I've never played any Dean basses to compare. This bass had a ton of focused midrange, more so than the SR506 (Ibanez) I played. If you're shopping 6 strings be sure to check that out, but it may be out of your price range. This bass is certainly in my top 3 pick for this price range.

@Tooltrocity I was also looking at the Ltd b-206 SM but then i saw this bass for about the same price. I thought this one looked cooler, but its not about looks its about sound lol so im gonna have to get my hands on one of these basses some how.

Check the scale length too. This is a 34" scale (standard) bass. Most 6 string basses on the market, with the exception of a few, are 35" scale. It's not the end of the world, but is definitely something worth noting. And trust me, I hear ya...money's super tight in my life too lol
