I'm a Japaese living in Europe. I bought this song on iTunes sometime ago. This song really touches my heart as a human being. I'm not even Christian. Yesterday, when I was flying on my way back from Lodon to where I live, tears welled in my eyes when my iPod played it. I really believe we all have one home, whereever it is.
Can't a song move a person and be considered patriotic no matter WHERE the song or singer comes from? You can love it no matter from where it originates...or does the border prevent that???
I think if a songs inspires you to respect your country and your countrymen a little bit more than you did yesterday, or creates a stronger desire to protect your freedom: I'd say that's a patriotic song.
American Super Star Kathy Mattea has recently recorded Dave Carroll's song The Place That I Call Home on a special project called "This Is My America."
Why do American country stars always steal Canadian blue grass and rock, and then try to pass it off as patriotic. I herd the country version of "Life is a Highway" in the Cars movie while that did a montage of America. ITS A CANADIAN SONG just like this one.
jacobbondre, home is where your heart is. Although you called it a CANADIAN song, it is a Canadian song writer, singing about the meaning of home, wherever you happen to live or be in the word.
I am so glad not only the East Coast knows you now , Sons of Maxwell... the world can appreciate you now. Thanks for sharing your talent.
I would travel to hear this song live.

You don't need to be a Christian to empathise with this song - you just need to be human.
It says a lot about you that it has had that effect - welcome.
