This song is the story of D and B's life! Actually, the whole album is rife with songs that reflect their volatile relationship. Bobby Whitlock tells all in his bio--Delaney used to beat the hell outta Bonnie. Great music though and thanks for posting this!!
Sometime in the mid 80's I was at the L. A. County court archives and who should walk in and ask me for help? Bonnie Bramlet, We talked and shared a couple of smokes for about half an hour. I remember she was wearing a farm aid T shirt. She needed a copy of her final divorce for some reason. She was so sweet but seemed to be in a bit of a hurry. The best thing is I never told her I knew who she was.
She stands right up there with Dusty Springfield, in my humble opinion. I always loved Delaney and Bonnie and would give a lot to have the vinyl I had in the 70's on CD today. I am thankful for YouTube!
That's Dr. John on piano . This song was written by him and Jessie Hill. I heard a killer version of this by Aretha Franklin on the radio today and was hoping to find it here. This one is very good , though . I'd forgotten how good Delaney and Bonnie were.

If your a fan of D&B, get the new 4-CD set from Rhino Handmade that chronicles their Dec. 1969 tour with Eric Clapton, George Harrison, and Dave Mason. It's got four of their concerts from that tour including their Royal Albert Hall show on Dec. 1st. Most of what you hear on the "On Tour" album comes from their second Dec. 7th show at Fairfield Halls with LOTS OF VOCAL OVERDUBS! The complete show is presented on Disc 4 without any of the overdubs. It will trip you out.
Its great to see a new herd of people are realizing the tremdous talent and approach to blues music that Delany and Bonnie gave us. They a major influence on everybody.
OK, dear fellow YouTubers, I have a question and would welcome answers/opinions:). Being a critic and intellectual (who probably thinks too much, just ask my last girlfriend:)), I believe the wonderful, kick-ass music of Delaney & Bonnie (and their subsequent solo work, respectively) is a three-way cross among rock, blues and soul. Maybe some country or country blues as well? Anyway, it certainly crosses genres. Perhaps that's why it remains so appealing. What say y'all?
@MrSluggo666 Ah well. I've lost sleep over ideas, which is at least one definition of "intellectual." Which is not to say that a self-described "intellectual" is superior to anyone in ANY way. I think a lot, but that doesn't elevate me beyond those to whom I've paid my groceries:) ---
@stevevandien And whose "definition of intellectual " would that be exactly ? yours I am guessing , and what idea has kept you awake, how to turn the concept of particle physics into a pornagraphic novel ?
@MrSluggo666 By the way, you guess wrong about "definition of intellectual." The classics professor Martha Nussbaum suggested it to the journalist Bill Moyers some 20 years ago:). Best, Steve
@stevevandien Steve u r exactly on the money on your comment the other day I was listening to satelite radio + I heard Delany do a cover of Marvin Gaye's "a change is gonna come " I'm tellin ya he owned that song for 4 min. see y'all Charley
@Chazzzz1234 Dang, Charley, I sure wish I'd heard that Delaney cover. I recently read Eric Clapton's autobiography; was glad that EC gives DB the praise he deserves:). Best, Steve
@stevevandien Geez, you made a simple comment, and asked a simple question, and there's always someone else who wants to turn it into a pissin' contest! But aside from that, you were on the money, D&B is rock, soul, country, blues, and one you didn't mention, gospel. If only we had more like them in this day and age of freeze-dried American Idols and Xerox-rock!
Delaney and bonnie are best remembered for the friends they kept, (and fired) Clapton, Harrison, Allman et al they were in the right place at the right time you know, lucky.
Bonnie is such a sweet lady! She was an instructor at a camp I go to. She's so talented and friendly! One of the nicest ladies I've ever had the pleasure of meeting,
I once saw Bonnie singing with The Men of the Deep on an old TV show years and years ago. Just thinking of her singing the blues with these miners makes my hair stand on end to this day. She was fabulous as always. In my mind it was always Bonnie with Delaney. He did not deserve her.
I played guitar with Bonnie for a short time in the late 70s. She is a great singer... this is a great version of this tune, written by Dr. John. Aretha also did a kick ass version with a much different arrangement.
I first heard them in '72.I was 12 and "Move 'Em Out" was getting a little airplay as a single. Then freeform radio was killed off by the "format" and you never heard ANYTHING by them except "Neverending Song.." Only in the last few years have I really gotten to hear their albums and I'm not disappointed. This song was always a fave, especially with that gospel chorus obviously learned by Bonnie in her Ikettes days. And their soul usages weren't slick but down 'n' dirty, the way they ought to be.
Bonnie Bramlett and Dusty Springfield are probably the two best female singers from that period. Lead or backup, they were the best and Bonnie is still singing (and singing like an angel) today.
My God this is some smoking soul rock. Delaney and Bonnie have become hands down one of my favorite bands over the years and I'm in the process of collecting everything I can find from them. In this video and one other version of this song it shows them so elated to be playing. So great to see a rock band that's not jaded and knows how to smile!
Delaney and Bonnie were one of the opening acts when I saw Clapton with Blind Faith in 1969. I was so impressed that I started buying all their LPs. Still great music after all these years.
I can't believe how many people that I mention this band to give me a blank stare. I was introduced to their music when I first saw Richard Sarafian's 1971 film Vanishing Point. I swear I am going to collect every album they ever did. This is prime stuff. I'm glad that Jenny Jupiter mentioned Motel Shot because that was the album that Sarafian said he based his vision of VP on. I will try to PM you Jenny but you can get Motel Shot on Amazon and other sites for around$25-35 for CD. It's an import
I'm a huge fan of D and B's all acoustic "Motel Shot" LP. I first heard it in the very early 1970s and consider it a fine blues albumn. "Come on in my kitchen" is a beautiful bluesy tune. I lost my copy and am looking to buy another or the CD. If anyone can help me locate one I'd appreciate it. Thanks
My favorite D&B song. They had a fantastic backing band which Clapton wooed away to form Derek and the Dominoes. D&B never recovered from losing the back up musicians.
Delaney and Bonnie's daughter, Bekka, has the same sparkle and talent as her parents! Check her out on myspace and listen to her music....she's carrying on the Bramlett tradition! She's a wonder LIVE! I love Delaney and Bonnie (even though they were before my time) and when I first heard Bekka, I was mesmerized!
The younger members don't know how big Delaney and Bonnie were in the late sixties and early seventies...They were one of the biggest acts around at that time, and rode in a group of musicians that included Leon Russell, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, and included some of the greatest musicians who've ever walked the planet. They made incredible albums and then just kind of fell off the earth, had marital problems and other adventures, and everything kind of sputtered out for them.
it also lead into Joe Cocker and Mad Dogs and Englishman.. And then Eric went on with bandmembers and formed Derickand the Dominoes.. I'm so glad I grw up with all that great music!
Blessings to Delaney's Family and Friends, the Soldier of the Cross will be Playing & Singing Gospel up there in Heaven now, joining a tight knit group.
Well, we all are, darlin'; it's called growing old and we're all showing our age. I went to see Dickey Betts & Great Southern the other night, looked around at the crowd, and was delighted to see my dad's generation there. Then I realized, oh yeah, somewhere along the way we caught up in age to that which I remember my ol' man. Those old folks were my age . . .sigh!
Saw them in concert in early 1970's..Rick Vito had just replaced Clapton. They sounded like a black band and the white audience did not accept them after Clapton left. Clapton learned to sing from Delaney and stole his band to form Derek and Dominoes. Delaney was a great producer.
I saw them also first in 1969 at the Fillmore East they played after Woody Herman and Led Zeppenil were the headliner..It was before Clapton joined which was later in 69 after Blind Faith disbanded..God all these Great times in music I am one happy camper I witnessed some of it..By 1970 EC took the rest of D&B's rhythm section to form the Dominoes whom I never got to see but thats OK too.. D&B were just Great..What a live Band they were!Russell,Coolidge,Gordon,Whitlock,Radle,Keys..They Had Soul!
The Fillmore East Days were Short Lived but I Was Young And A Huge Supporter Of These Great Bands..I Mean I Saw Led Zeppelin in Their First US Appearances Twice..Jefferson Airplane,John Mayall,Ike&Tina Turner,Electric Flag,Butterfield Blues Band,Hot Tuna,Delaney&Bonnie.Terry Reid,ABB..On&On I Have To look at Their Website To Refresh The Memory..Ha..Gret Times..
Delanie and Bonnie, God bless'em! They made such really good "roots" style music and were not really appreciated as much as they should have been in their era. Was enjoyable to see this video....THANKS!
Man back then you had to realy know how to sing!! The sound systems from the 60's were so awful, thus you had to pray that your band mate was singing the right harmony... on pitch!
What a concept, huh? Back in the day when musicians had to have talent before making it in the industry. Piracy is the best thing to happen to the music industry. No more having to purchase 13 sub-par songs to get that one hit wonder.
Simply terrific R&B song. This is the first time I saw Bonnie without the fright wig and sunglasses. Delaney is more kempt than I have seen before. What a great act. I wish they were still together.
And the great Leon Russell on piano with Rita Coolidge helping out on background vocals. I wonder how many younger viewers realize this is the same lady (as Bonnie Sheridan) who played Bonnie the waitress on Roseanne. One of the greatest moments in the history of that show was when she sang "You Really Got A Hold On Me" sitting on Dan & Roseanne's back yard picnic table in the Mother's Day episode. That was amazing.
This is vintage 70's rock-n-roll. Bobby Whitlock on organ (future Derek & the Dominoes), Carl Radle (Derek & the Dominoes and Mad Dogs & Englishmen) and Bobby Keys on sax (Mad Dogs & Englishmen, Rolling Stones) -- a musician's dream list. Bonnie can still sing with the best (highly underrated). Great clip for fans of D & B, Mad Dogs, etc...
This song is the story of D and B's life! Actually, the whole album is rife with songs that reflect their volatile relationship. Bobby Whitlock tells all in his bio--Delaney used to beat the hell outta Bonnie. Great music though and thanks for posting this!!

I've always loved this song. Too bad music don't sound like this anymore.

Wow, I didn't realize that was Leon. I have only seen him with a long beard.

My bad.. Just re-viewed the video. While Leon did play on many of D&B's recordings, in this instance that's Bobby Whitlock.
