I beg to disagree. The environment is key to sustained development. We can ignore it at our own peril. Yes, Ethiopia cannot afford strict environmental guidelines of the kind they have in the west. But doing nothing is disastrous. The level of deforestation in Ethiopia is alarming. Air & water pollution are increasing. While Im pleased with the pace of development in my country, I can't help but worry its impact on the environment if let unchecked.

For every action there is a reaction, so what we have to see here is that, when the investor gets a contract it should be an implemented deal between the government and the investor, so that this kind of situation would not occur in the future. The Tigray and Amhara ethnic groups are Christian and their homelands are in the north west and comprise about 1/4 of the State's borders. The rest of the country are different ethnic groups like the Oromo, Somali, Gambella and more. All these people naturally want their freedom and are largely Muslim and Animist. In fact except for half of the Oromo (who are half muslim, half christian)-all of the non-Habashi (tigraay & oromo) are either Muslim or Animist.
