My friend's daughter, who's only 26 was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer and had to undergo an operation.

Her 3 younger sisters are lucky to have access to the HPV vaccine. They, as well as my daughter, had the series of 3 HPV vaccines without any problems whatsoever.

Thanks for the video, although it was one-sided, it did provide a lot of information. I am curious as to why the side-effects weren't discuss as well as their real prevalence and likelihood (not horror stories). The FDA doesn't have a perfect track record so just saying they approved the vaccine doesn't necessarily mean that the side-effects aren't important to discuss.

Probably, and this is a guess, the same reason they don't tell you the side effects of a flu shot, but instead give you a pamphlet including them. If you actually read the side effects, you are incredibly likely to get up and walk out. Though every year I way the risks and still take the shot.

I have read the side-effects. The reason I mentioned it is that there is a *lot* of negative press surrounding this vaccine. Some of it warranted (Merck is not the best company on earth) and some of it likely exaggerated. There are lots of videos, for example, that only decry the side effects. It would be useful to see a pro-gardasil stance that includes an discussion of real prevalence of side-effects.

In order to "get" the virus, the virus needs to replicate. The HPV vaccine is made from primarily a VLP, or vaccine likde particle. That means the outside is nothing but protein shell that tricks the body into thinking it's HPV, but there's nothing inside - no DNA - that would allow it to replicate. Gardasil is the only vaccine that may help guard against diseases caused by HPV Types 16 and 18, which cause 70% of cervical cancer cases, and HPV Types 6 and 11, which cause 90% of genital warts cases. The HPV vaccine does not promote sexual promiscuity. It merely serves as protection against HPV when and if a woman decides to have sex. Also, condoms only offer about 70% protection against HPV.
