  • it's too bad that they don't make this guitar anymore

  • Is it a bolt on neck, if so could you not just replace the neck to fix the weak neck and intonation? also whats the action like?

  • @tomzjamz the action is ok when compared to similarly priced guitars. Also the neck contains a lot of the electronics to the make the guitar work in RB3 so replacing it really isn't an option.

  • Wow the part you were saying about the weak neck makes me not want to get it where as rocksmith uses any electric guitar. Only upside to rocksmith?

  • should i get rb 3 wit pro guitar or rocksmith???

  • @hms2407 I have both, if your more into wanting to learn guitar, and ur in some really early stages of guitar, defintaly get Rocksmith. If you want to have a little more fun, but more of a challenge, go rockband 3. Rockband teaching tool (in my own opinion) isnt that good. It didnt really help me that much, just made me feel more frustrated. Rocksmith has a unique way of teaching that i like and that is at my pace, so it helps alot for me.

  • I find it funny that you are good enough to hurl abuse at the game. I have yet to achieve that level of expertise.

  • Part 1- this things great

    Part 2- this things good

Part 3- this thing is a piece of crap!

  • @ccook1525 It should really be: Part 1 - This thing is great!

Part 2 - This thing is good

Part 3 - You play real guitar? Why are you playing games for?!

  • @abimaellopez1991 it really depends on you. some people will find RB3 easier to learn and others will like the regular way. I don't necessarily think one is better than the other. By far the best is to get a real guitar instructor.

  • I'm a bass player, since there isn't a MIDI bass available for my price range (plus no guarantee it would work with RB3) could I still play finger-style on the Squier guitar? Or would I be forced to play Rush with a pick and feel dirty about it?

  • @CallMeDizzzy I'm not sure. I haven't tried finger picking on the squier. My best guess is that it would work but don't quote me on that.

  • if i had a real guitar can i use that to play the game?

  • @CraziMEXICAN96 No, the game only works with the rock band 3 squier controller.

  • @roseofjerichoband or a midi guitar and the rockband midi converter

  • @jakeandaustin Nope, since it wouldn't have the touch-sensor in the neck, and the buttons and electronics on the body. (Though the buttons would be on the rock band pro-adapter)

  • It now works with Fender Mustang Pro, which has switches on the neck instead of strings. The tuning issues aren't there, but it's not a real guitar.

The Fender Mustang Pro appears to have better "action" (for lack of a better word), than my You Rock Guitar controller. I only play bass-- fingers not picks-- but I can get OK performance out of the You Rock Guitar, so that might be something for +CallMeDizzzy

  • @CraziMEXICAN96 No, but look up the game "Rocksmith". It comes out next month and you can plug any guitar in to your console

  • @StarcraftAndBeyond thanks for the info

  • The reason why it voids the warranty if you put on 10+ gague strings is probably because it will make the neck weaker.

  • dislike bar looks like justin beibers dick

  • amazing video series! really helpful! thx!

  • Great review! I dont play guitar, and I was wondering to start it in a fun way. I might buy one soon. Thank you very much for the info cool man!

  • Hey man. Great review. I was wondering. Is the intunation issue you mention fixable, or will your controller just sound bad on a real amp forever?

  • @Vyssen yes you can fix the intonation. Since I only use the guitar to play RB3 I haven't done it yet.

  • Loved the riff you played at 6:50 - Romancing the Ordinary. I just got it on itunes now, thanks!

  • Fantastic review. Good to know all the surprises of the guitar then be disappointed expecting too much after the purchase.

  • now, just need a bass guitar >.<

  • I started playing and my dad got a used strat for $300 and I have an acoustic guitar my instructor reccomended, but the stratocaster is just way more fun to play.

  • @DaisyWabbit It's because Due to the thinner Neck, and thinner strings, electrics are easier to play, if you start on an acoustic and get really good at it then it'll be easier to go to an electric, as opposed to getting good with an electric and then going to an acoustic.

  • @HEmmerich89 I have an acoustic, and it is harder to play, but I prefer the sound more than anything.

  • Thanks, that was pretty informative and fun too. Not like I'm going to play Rock Band, but it's amazing how much videogames evolved in such short time. Would be nice to have something like this when I was ten :)

  • You are SUCH A COOL ASIAN!!

  • Nicely done review! Good job. Some guys just do it right, and you are one of them.

  • you just made me not wanna buy this guitar, instead, given that i already have a guitar, i rather pay for some guitar lessons.

  • can you slow songs down? I find it difficult to read the tabs that fast.

  • @duckness1 yes you can slow the songs down up to 70% of the original speed.

  • they should have used a guitar design with an angled head to compensate for the flexible neck

  • Thanks for the video it was helpful and informative.

  • OMG what are you playing at 6:51 it sounds amazing!?!?!

  • @TFormerfan252 Hey, the song is called "Romancing the Ordinary" off of our album "Out of the Maze." See the video description for a full link to the song. Thanks for the comment!

  • @roseofjerichoband could you provide tabs, please?

  • really great video review series thanks alot you really reinforced my decision of getting one of these lol rockbands one of my favorite games and ill finally be able to learn how to play the electric guitar thats been sitting in the corner of my room for like 3 yrs now :p

  • Great, great review, thanks so much for taking the time to share! Oh, and loved the cat. :)

  • Quit showing off we all know u are good

  • Cool review :)

  • While an excellent review on the Squier as a game controller and a beginner's guitar, IMHO the most interesting aspect is it's potential as a MIDI controller for DAWs, synths and samplers. Not being a keyboardist it would be nice to play piano tracks in GarageBand or Logic. Perhaps you could make this the subject for a part 4?

  • @fiduskunstner That's a great idea, unfortunately at the moment im just really short on time. Maybe sometime in the future I could do this. Thanks for the comment!

  • Hah, I love the ending to this video with you cursing at Dammit for messing up. I know that feeling exactly. lol By the way, will you be getting Rocksmith at all? I'm not sold on it at all, but you obviously being more into guitar than me I figured you might be interested in something that lets you use your own guitars. Nothing will ever replace rockband for me... (too much money invested) but a slight alternative would be neat.

  • @Prophetkryztof I'm not really sure... I'm not totally sold on the rocksmith interface. At least RB3 uses guitar tab. Its seems kind of crazy to me that they make a game where you get to use your guitar but they design a completely new way of reading music. In any case I'm really happy with RB3 so rocksmith would have to be freaking amazing before I would pick it up and so far theres nothing thats really caught my attention. Thanks for your comment!

  • Professional review. You answered all my questions... definitely will get one of these.

Thanks a bunch for this excellent series of videos.

    Cheers,

    Kev

  • epic cat ending

  • a string of my Fender Squier Strat Controller just broke, should i send it back where i purchased it online? because they grant me a 3 year warranty to this guitar.

  • @ecr0w the strings are not covered in the 3 year warranty. What you're going to want to do is buy new strings from any music store. You need 9 gauge strings or lighter. If you install strings heavier than 9 gauge you will void your warranty. Don't worry if you don't know what 9 gauge strings are. Just tell the guy at the music store and he will know. If he doesn't know then definitely go to a different music store.

  • @roseofjerichoband

    Thanks for the quick answer and help!^^ I'm a beginner at guitar and I guess I was strumming too fast^^;

I was playing Stevie Nicks - Edge of Seventeen (expert) when it happened.

  • can u go in drop D or drop C for specific songs on rock band3? ah screw it i already have a fender strat lmao

  • @slarbiter Yes, you can retune the guitar to alternate tunings. The songs in RB3 are charted based on the alternate tunings.

  • even tho this question what maby answerd the squire u used was it for ps3???? or xbox360 and is their even a squire for ps3?

  • @adrimana729 the rb3 guitar is the same whether you have an xbox or a ps3. The difference is you need the correct Mad Catz Midi Adapter. There is one midi adapter for the xbox and one for the playstation.

  • do you think i could take electronics from controller put in a real guitar and will still work on game

  • @TheGarrettsee No, you can't just transfer the electronics cause there is a special fret board on the guitar that is designed specifically for the RB3 guitar. You would not be able to transfer those electronics. It might work if you removed the neck from the RB3 guitar and then put a different body on it. But thats just a thought; I've never attempted anything like that.

  • I just came back from a guitarshop and I like squiers more then fenders, not the sound but the way they feel. So my next guitar wont be a fender but a modified squier(electronics, pickups, bridge). Again, srry for my english.

  • I do not own very expensive one's, just a 1990 squier (hardtail, new paint, new frets, new nut and new electronics) and it sounds really good! I took it to a local guitar shop to compare it with much more expensive guitar and they just didnt sound better. Expensive guitars are way overrated, expensive amplifiers are not.

    Srry for my english(?)

  • @skylorz Hey thanks for the comments and I'm glad you like our stuff! As for expensive guitars, it can be hit and miss. Some "expensive" are really more for collecting purposes than playing but a really well crafted guitar plays better than inexpensive guitars. Its difficult to describe but as your playing matures you definitely start to desire higher quality instruments and usually the more expensive guitars are better built. i agree if you don't have a nice amp then it really doesnt matter

  • And 4th, why does everybody needs to buy expensive guitars?? My teacher has a 1987 fender customshop (€3200) and a modified danelectro (€350), and in my opinion the cheap one sounds at least as good. Personally my preference goes out to stratocasters.

  • 1st of all, In my opinion this is one of the best reviews on youtube.

2nd, youre music is really awesome!

3th, the squier seems a bit crappy. I think there are much better guitars for that price. If you wanna learn guitar, I would buy a normal squier and a bunch of books. If u just want to have fun, I would buy this.

  • Well I'm definitely getting the guitar (I don't play guitar at all!)

I found the review very helpful. Bonus is I got introduced to your music :D

  • does the Squier guitar have a truss rod? i didn't see a hole for it or anything

  • @Jimihendrix6699 yes it does, but its in a weird spot. I think someone made a video of it somewhere on youtube.

  • @roseofjerichoband oh ok, was going to say. that HAS to be in there.

  • Awesome review, probably picking this guitar pretty soon. Thanks for the help.

  • Buried cold riff is preeeeeeeeeeeeeetty cool =]

  • hey great review you made me cry when i seen your PRS :L

where can i get it in the UK? the squier i mean now :L

  • @RhysHoneMusic1 Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately I have no idea where to buy the squier in the UK. I bought mine off of best buy dot com.

  • Very Very nice review! Very informative and helpful. I've been playing guitar for a while and can play pretty decently well but i need a new guitar so I was wondering if I should replace my old guitar that's from a stater kit and was very cheap (although seems pretty nice and sturdy) so I thought if this guitar was basically the same or better I would replace it but I do need a more expensive guitar so this will probably be lowered on my priority list. Still looks like fun to play though!

  • Hey man, I just got the squier, and I really gotta adjust the string height/neck cause the intonation is quite off indeed.. Still think its a great guitar! I'm waitin for the midibox, it was sold out, but the guitar wasnt. I tried it out allready on my hifi set, did sound quite cool lol

Your review was really accurate about the guitar (as I expected), but I expected worse lol, the guitar is quite decent for rocking out @ home or with friends :)

Saludos

  • So very nice review, i buyed the squier a few times ago. You said the tuning is difficult to tune the Guitar. It is easier to use a tuner which has a vibration tune option? I didnt really understand the problem with the factory internation. Does the guitar sound bad if I go up the fretboard?

  • @Manjestic What I really mean is that the guitar is harder to tune than a higher quality guitar. You can definitely tune it, and as for the intonation the particular guitar that I received had bad intonation. this doesn't mean that all of the squiers out there will have bad intonation out of the box.

  • @roseofjerichoband Okay, thanks for the response!

  • Very thorough and awesome vid, love your review. I got the mustang model though, because I didn't want to worry so much about maintenance or damage.

  • Thanks for this awesome review ! I subscribed keep up the good work !

  • Best part of the review @ 08:27-08:35 lol

  • good shit man good shit. you know what your talking about. i didnt expect much from the squire controller. since its a CONTROLLER. are those the guitars you have? do you ahve more?

  • @mightymouse5565 Hey thanks for the comment - all of the guitars in the review are guitars that I use in my band. I do have more - i have around 10 guitars total.

  • @roseofjerichoband Wow. do you have a favorite?

  • @mightymouse5565 hmm, thats a tough question. I dont think i have a favorite cause I really like several. The ones I like the most are my 1968 Martin D28S Acoustic, a Takamine Acoustic, PRS Custom 22, and Fender Jaguar.

  • @roseofjerichoband i like the Fender Jaguar as well. is that what you had or you had the squire?

  • Found this review yesterday... I've been wanting to pick up the squire. I was hoping your review would eventually go into using the guitar as a MIDI controller. Aside from that, really good review.

BTW, I REALLY like the lick you were playing at the end of the review, so I went searching through Amazon and bought "Romancing the Ordinary". You should probably list the song names you played (or better link to them).

  • @arwild01 Hey I'm really glad you like the song! And I have taken your advice and added some notes and links to the songs.

  • wow i was waiting for ign to review the squier but i watched all the 3 reviews and its the best review ive seen on my life. Good work this is really helpful if you're thinking on buying the guitar n i wont do it ill wait for another version or for the price to drop..thank you

  • great review man....I wish all reviews could be as clear as yours

  • How much was the Squire controller? And where did you get it?

  • @VBuenahora I got on bestbuy.com for $280 i believe

  • thank you alot for these videos you have the best review for the guitar on youtube :D

  • 5:30

about tree fiddy you say? you don't happen to know a Mr loch-ness monster do ya?

  • Hmm... i'm kinda new, and i was looking at using the guitar plugged into an amp maybe 50% of the time.. can the intonation be fixed or is it permanently screwed because of the neck?

  • @secret336 I assume the intonation can be fixed. I have not done it yet cause I really only use the guitar for RB3. You may want to go around on youtube and ask some other players if their intonation is good.

  • how about this: 9 11 16 24 32 42. can ths work? and can u adjust the guitar? like the neck, and adjust it so its tuned in open and 12th? can these and other adjustments be done on this guitar????

  • @chatoalan24 The gauge you described is standard 9 gauge strings and yes that is exactly what you need to put on the squier. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "adjust the guitar so its tuned in open." You can re-tune the guitar to alternate and open tunings just like you would a real guitar.

  • @roseofjerichoband oh alright thanks yeah thats what i meant. but will alternate tuning affect the gameplay? and also, i meant like can you adjust the neck, like in a real guitar, so that it wont bend so much like u demonstrated.

  • @roseofjerichoband Hey there is a dude on here his youtube name is ming something he plays the pro mustang guitar he is real good to you should watch him he even plays through the fire and flames by dragonforce on expert and gets most of the song.

  • @TheShinobi32 yeah he actually contacted me a couple days ago. He's got some great vids. I guess I need to do a run of dragonforce.

  • wait, how about this custom gauge? this is what i usually use: 9 11 16 24 32 42. will this work??

  • I am a beginner and have tried to play the guitar controller with an amp to the game but it is very off with the music, do you know if it is meant to use that way?

  • @xchitownxballax Hey, yes the guitar can be played with the songs but somethings you need to keep in mind: 1. make sure the guitar is tuned, 2. Some of the RB3 songs have non-standard tunings so even if you have the guitar tuned correctly it will sound wrong. Lastly the guitar intonation could be off so you would need to take it to a guitar tech to get it fixed (if thats the case).

  • Wow. Very informative review that got me ordering a RB3 Squier. And to top it off I found an awesome new band to listen to.

Would love to see your songs get pro guitar parts in Rock Band.

  • @Jaramide I would also love to have pro guitar for our music =) Thanks for the comments!

  • I was gonna buy one then satora iwata came on stage and pulled a shiny blue rectangle out of his pocket and said this is nintendo 3DS and I jizzed it was either one or the other and I chose the 3DS but I still managed to get the mustang guitar

  • Awesome you are the man. Really appreciate your review. I was about to buy it in march and decided to wait and see what the reviews would be. This one couldn't have been any better. I have wanted to learn to play my whole life and wondered if this would help any. I will still get it and take your advice. Thanks

  • @Premo115 I hope you find it to be a good experience and I'm glad you liked the review!

  • Wow, that thing sounds like total gar-bitch! Also I should've guessed that the neck was hollow because of the electronics.

  • Thanks for the review! this was very helpful and confirms some of the ideas I had about using this for learning as a supplement. for playing I have a real 400.00 electric but I haven't practiced much because it's boring. looks like this could help me get past that a little!

  • i have a really dumb question but i can't find an answer anywhere. i was wondering if i purchase this and restring it for a southy would it still work with the game?? does anybody out there know? (Thanks in advance)

  • @lostsoul7 As far as I know it works (obviously i haven't done it). If you do a youtube search for "fender squier pro guitar lefty" you will see a few videos of people that have done that.

  • @roseofjerichoband thanks i appreciate it!!

  • And FWIW, my first real guitar, a Squire M77 (LP copy) cost $250. I've been taking lessons for about 9 months and am doing pretty good. I just bit the bullet and last week and threw down $800 for a used American Standard Fat Strat. The Strat is more guitar than I need for the next couple years of my playing.

I've also looked around at videos of people playing this. Most have horrible horrible form and don't have a clue where their fingers are supposed to be.

  • Wow, each video in your series makes me hate this thing more. The thing is garbage! It really is a toy and should be treated as such, not an instrument for someone seriously wanting to learn to play. Just tuning the guitar would make a beginner put the thing in the closet and never pull it out again. I wish I could be a fly on the wall when a student brings that toy to a lesson!

I wonder if Fender is going to incorporate their new trem bar in their more expensive pieces? :-P

  • Thanks for the videos bro. Very very helpful. Oh, and I LOVED The outro!!!

  • Thanks for the videos bro. Very very helpful.

  • Looks like ill go pick up the Squier Stratocaster for Rock Band 3 once I get the money. Im still learning playing guitar so I think this will fit with my Ibanez and my Acoustic Stratocast I got.

Thanks for the review. Very informative.

  • I am looking to buy my first guitar i thought this might be a good start, i have been reading a lot about guitars, does this thing have pickups? i noticed the arrow keys and i am wondering if that is for changing the pickups?

  • @t3knoman00 Yes the guitar has 1 pickup. The arrow keys are for controlling the Rock Band game and do not control the pickup.

  • Thanks so much for your in-depth review. I just order mine (like an hour ago) on BB. I can't wait to get it!!!

  • Great video! Nice editing too.. Loved the outtakes at the end!

  • honestly is this worth it, cause i finally got some money and its either this or some dj equipment, which should i buy?

  • @thegamer1504 its pretty tough for me to answer that question. get which ever you think you will enjoy more.

  • @roseofjerichoband thanks, ive been playing guitar on/off for a few years, and i really want to learn how to play electric guitar, will the fender squier be right for me?

  • @thegamer1504 yes i think it can be a good tool for learning but as i say in the review you'll want to supplement it with playing through an amp and a guitar teacher if you're really serious.

  • OMG A HOLLOW NECK!?

  • Great videos. As a beginner it seemed like a good idea to play my Les Paul through an amp because of the mistakes the game hides. Good to hear a pro confirm it. Bought all of your songs on RBN as a way to say thanks for these videos.

  • @kanshou Thanks so much and I hope you enjoy the songs!

  • i play guitar this helped allot so i can learn songs from bands i like . its really hard for me to play some one ellses music its easy to free style though. but my ps3 broke and its at sony being repaired . ill probably wait until this guitar gets fixed on some of the issues you said it had such as with the neck and tuning hope theyl fix it with their newer released guitars after april

  • Awesome review, thanks, helped loads.

  • Great review

  • So i have a Squier Strat myself. But i want this controller too:p

  • @edgarbearr to be honest, Don't get it for the quality of the guitar, like described, you can get significantly better. But if you like gaming then get this thing. I am for sure gonna get it, will be my first electric so.. it'll be a good start :)

  • what about if i was in a guitar class for a year? ill say im pretty good for my skills. enough where bigginers would be like wow! but enough where more pro players are like "well can you do this!? "

Should i get it? (i want it and all but i really dont know if i should)

  • @edgarrbear RB3 can definitely teach you something about the guitar and playing pretty much regardless of what skill level you are at. the real question is, if you get the guitar will you use it or will you find more value in a guitar that you can use with an amp and play regularly.

  • Hey great review. Will you be doing a review of the guitar's midi features?

  • @riotcrue probably not, i really don't do much midi stuff. i know there has been a lot of talk about it so hopefully someone will post a review. Thanks for your comment!

  • thanks for the review. it was a great help

  • great review, thanks a lot. It seems that Squier is not adjusting the guitars at all. Mine had the truss rod all loose and the bridge way too high (but reasonable intonation). I checked one at Best Buy and that one had the truss rod way too tight.

If you want to use it as a guitar (and not just a game controller) the first thing you might want to do is spend an hour with a hex wrench and a philips screwdriver and adjust things properly. After I did so, it played tolerably well.

    Cheers!

  • Come for the Guitar, stay for the Cats.

  • Great review and we finally got a Rose of Jericho RBN song on PS3 as of yesterday.

Its a shame we likely aren't going to get anymore with RBN 1.0 soon to be phased out and only getting 5 songs a week.

  • Wow, is the intonation really THAT bad? O_O I was planning on using this for performances...

  • @Dvdsmith2002 It definitely was not optimal. I think part of the problem is the somewhat questionable construction of the guitar due to the hollow fretboard. I probably wouldn't take it on the road as I'm not sure how well it would survive.

  • I really want this because pro guitar looks hella fun. I also don't have an electric guitar, or amp, but if this is fully MIDI compatible, I can just plug it into my PC like I already do with my Rock Band 3 Pro Keyboard, or my friend's ION drumset. Pretty much all of my musical ability and desire to make music stems from Rock Band.

  • Nice honest review,

    cheers mate

  • How many times you had to tune the Squier Controller?

I heard that as soon as you mute the string, it will get out of tune as well.

  • @ecr0w I really didn't have to tune it that much, though with the terrible intonation of my guitar, tuning didn't really matter. Also the string mute did not seem to affect the tuning on my guitar

  • Thank you for this great video.

    That's all what i need !!!

  • Amplifier cat says, "I can turn this up to 11?"

  • outtakes FTW.

You didn't mention you can play the game (probably in practice mode) and use an amp at the same time. Your score will be horrible but it should be fun!

  • @ChodTheWacko MIDI to the Xbox while jacked into an amp, I guess? I guess not only singers get to hear their actual performance anymore, heh.
