I remember when this happend and everyone said that there were 30 meter high waves and shit, but according to the report the highest one was 10 meters which I found out recently. So here I've been believeing that there were 30 meter high waves for 5 years! Oh well. :(
There were thirty meter high waves off the coast of Sumatra, People always assume that because the maximum height was 30 meters, the wave had to be 30 meters everywhere. In a small area the wave was 30 meters +. In a few other areas the wave was around ten meters - like in small areas of Sri Lanka and Thailand. In many other areas, such as this place, the highest waves were probably 4-6m. In other areas the wave was only 1 centimeter high.
I just don't understand the set up of this hotel. There is a pool and then, on the side facing away from the ocean, a big concrete drop off? Generally things get higher above sea level the farther they are from th ocean, but here it goes down.
And those poor old people trying to cross along the drop. I know that the lady died and the man survived.
you all ignorants still think this happens because of gods?? allah, jesus, buda and all that bunch of crap? gods are like santa claus, bigfoot and peter pan, IT DOESN'T EXISTS!! don't you understand? believe in what you see, not what "the church" tells you.
It's truly mind boggling to think that 230,000 people died because of this. Bin Laden is nothing compared to mother nature. End the Iraq War! Fight global warming!
no video on the world could give you the smell, the taste, the sound. The silence. Now it's two years away from me but still in front of my eyes. I was not in water, but heaving my breakfast in the second floor of a restaurant, 200 (!) metres away from the beach and counting the tip for our very friendly servant. She didn't get it.
Woah just realised this...Have you seen the video where a guy is filming in a restaurant when the wave comes in and you see and old couple get tragically washed away? - Look in the bottom right corner from about 1.11 - Its the same old couple!!! Doesnt look like they would have survived when you see it from this angle...
Oh god, that second wave was much worse than the first. I wonder how many people who survived the first wave and were wandering around in a daze were killed by the second? So terribly sad.
OMG!!

Terrifying! I hope the people in the water in the beginning of the film got to safety before that second wave hit?
