If I'm performing a Rachmaninov concerto--which I believe to contain enough worth to be performed live in the future--I have to memorize it in order to perform it. The process of looking up each note is insufficient due to the human limitation on visual and mental processing.

Amazing - this is the same Jeff Jarvis that a year ago was trashing crowd sourcing. He hasn't half changed his tune but I guess you can get a long way by catching the wave even if your previous wave was running in exactly the opposite direction
