I don't know how much a 7,62x51mm (or .308 Winchester) round is but it's never so expensive that 12 seconds of shooting will waste 400.000 dollars of american taxes. Let's calculate a little bit: rate of fire of the M134 is UP TO (mind that!) 6000 rounds per minute. That means 1200 rounds in 12 seconds. 400.000 bucks into 1200 rounds equals 333 dollars and 33 cents PER ROUND!!! Just think about it. Even shooting the GAU-8 Avenger would not be that expensive.
