Correct me if I'm wrong, this is the original algorithm, in which when a row is cleared, blocks (tetrominos and fragments thereof) fall one square, leading some pieces to end up floating.

Also, epic setup...try to make it into a loop and have fun carrying a bar around in circles!

yes you are correct. It was pretty late in the tetris life time that "gravity"starts to come in. which changed the game entirely. Tetrises (four lines in one piece) were no longer the ultimate scoring possibility.

He COULD be japanese, a japanese version of the game doesn't necessarily mean that he's Japanese.

Plus, that whole "skill" thing is completely biased, for all you know, he could've just used an action replay, or some other cheating hardware/ software (if it's a ROM) to choose where tetris blocks go.

The Tetris games do give some special exceptions, like floorkicks and t-spins. But an I-spin... is... way beyond normal rotational physics.
