  • This review was a huge fail. You prefer the i over the d?

You should look for a new line of work because you suck at what you do.

  • ". . .Not going to save you much on your annual fuel bill."? What are these guys talking about? This car has been known to return 40+ mpg. Compare that over the 335i's 26 mpg highway.

  • @vido4x4 If ur going to use "has been known to" as a factor, I'll bet 335i "has been known to" be 30+. Gotta compare apples to apples. Use EPA numbers for both, or maybe Consumer Reports for both, since they have a separate highway rating based on highway-only driving that is always above EPA highway numbers. Same error by guy above, using his actual mpg in a CC but EPA number for comparison. Whether hybrids or diesels, its rare to break even in less than 100k miles over base car.

  • This video is half assed and ignorant

  • lol he has 286 ps

  • Torque... is your friend.

  • typical americans, they cant realize that european diesel is the best, and will stay at the top for a long time. the us manufactures cant build the same engine, they cant make a car handle they the europeans because they make cars for comfort not speed or sport. its a shame though

  • Diesel cars are not about 0-60.. they are for 30-80 MPH which is the midrange thrust, which is what we all need for everyday driving. Come on convert to diesel for daily driver, and then you can have an M3 for the weekend.

  • "Torque is fun" is all they said? What about range and reliability? And biofuel capability?

  • I believe most people from the US never drove a modern common rail diesel. The midrange acceleration of a 3 litre engine like the one that powers this BMW is astonishing.

  • This is the worse car review I have ever seen. all they did was talk about how much better the 335i was, no wonder not a lot of people in America want a diesel.

  • C&D is right--for the average driver driving 10k miles/year, a quick calculation, assuming 28mpg (the reported test value) for the diesel, and 22mpg for the 335i, operating on premium, it would take almost 5.5 years in 'fuel savings' to justify the 335d's higher sticker. Sure, all that torque is fun, but the 335i is faster, lighter, and, yes, cheaper to operate. I calculate the average annual fuel savings to be around $400, and if you can spend $47k on a car, $400 isn't worth it.

  • @mh744

Yes, but for us "Stupid" Americans who drive 40k miles per year, we save - oh wait, instead of theoretical numbers, lets use my real numbers. My VW CC (27.56 calculated mpg), that I have had for 6 months has burned $2445 (768.96gal) of premium fuel. The 36mpg 335d would have burned $1935 (assuming diesel same price as premium), for a $509.59 saving in 6 months. = $1018/yr. It would take 5yrs to kick back $5000...

  • I rather the 335d, higher torque, far better mpg, what is not to like? This one is a keeper.

  • Shame you guys get the 265Hp version.

In Europe our 335d is as quick as the 335i stock for stock and chipped for chipped.

Unless the 335i is heavily tuned.

    check my 335d vids.

  • Indeed, the European 335D spews 285 ponies, maybe because it does not require the Blue fluid stuff, but then, try buying one new in Europe for 37,000 Euros, the 'key in hand' price in Canada...

  • @mybizuk wot u talking about....335i is faster than a 335d i know for a fact!

    check 0-60mph times, i shitted on a d with my i !!!!!

  • @zachieftan Not in the UK buddy, UK 335d have 286HP. and stock for stock there equal.

  • This makes more torque than the M3.

  • My pencil sharpener makes more torque than the M3.

*This* makes more torque than the entire 1987 Honda range.

  • You have a point. BMW M cars don't produce very much torque. The 335d even produces more torque than an M5. But it also produces more torque than a Dodge Challenger SRT8 and a Chevrolet Camaro SS.

  • Ahhaha! I love it man!

  • It even makes more torque than the V10 M5... It's amazing!!

  • A four-cylinder BMW diesel that produces 204 hp was named Europe's engine of the year in 2008 but it's not offered in the US.

It was a four-cylinder engine in a 5 Series, by the way, that won a BMW vs. Toyota Prius fuel economy run. On a run from London to Geneva, half highway, half city, a much bigger BMW with a diesel engine actually used less fuel than a Prius. We need more choices, this is America, right!

  • No, this is the UK - where we have all of these cars. Youtube is available all the way around the world you know...

  • I know that, I was just making a point that We Americans don't get all these cars but i wish we did. I don't get why we don't. I just hope we do get the L4 diesel too

  • ???? This car is on sale here!

  • Yes this car is but not the 320d. however i just found out today that BMW has a program in place whereas they will ship a 320D to the US . I have seen them with european tags I don't know the price but with 175 hp and great fuel eco it maybe worth it.

  • I rented a 320D a few years ago in Spain, and had so much fun that the following year I rented a 120D. These cars rock

  • They are hard to rent where i live, but i will try

  • It is Sequential turbo not twin turbo.

    The 335i Is twin turbo!

  • its both, twin sequential turbos -- one small, one big with connected manifolds to flatten out the torque and HP curves while reducing turbo lag.

335i and 335d have very similar turbo setups

but its good people are using the sequantial turbo term finally. :)

  • What?

The petrol 335i/diesel turbo setups bare nothing in resemblance!

  • I have both cars in my garage right now - yeah, they do even though the 335i has 1 turbo per bank with to x-pipe between bank 1 and 2 manifolds. they both have 1 big and 1 small turbo, and they are set up Very similarly.

  • need to refill urea? no thanks.

  • Just pee in the tank, cheap. :D

  • I don't think the car will handle all the B-vitamins that I take.

  • lol

  • Pee Is better then the ethanol crap they put in nowadays hehe

  • I want a vehicle that's practical, efficient, reliable, fast, great handling and braking, and costs around one hundred dollars. That's why I bought a new pair of Nikes.

  • You can't "stomp on the throttle" of a diesel. There is no throttle in a diesel's motor.

  • you numb!!!

this car accelerates almost 2 seconds faster than a mustang GT.

    for a diesel¿?

  • Sorry, but this is about 5.7 secs to 60 whereas the Mustang is 5.1. It's faster than a V6 but not a GT.

  • the current model, but previous models not.

    as i recently researched.

    anyway, the diesel is faster.

the gt doesn't even reach 250km/h

  • Although it may be .6 seconds slower than a mustang gt it does get 200 more miles per a tank so while the mustang is filling up i will have reached my destination in style.

  • im sorry i LOVE mustangs, but this bmw has it on a circuit any day. maybe not on the qm. but its got it in cornering anyday

  • price for price, you're wrong. the mustang offers way more for the money. you'd need to go to the 1 series to match price. and next year the new ford Boss engine is coming out. i wouldn't be surprised if they packed the new ecoboost in there either. or you could just go with the taurus sho with more power and features than the 335i. bmw engineers a great car, but they're terribly overrated and overpriced. the diesel is the only thing original or special about the 3 series.

  • they are not overpriced (or maybe not so much..)

cheap plastic and pretty shity quality is what you get for mustang`s price.

  • imagine ecu flash, higher boost and exhaust. Could easily see 320hp and 550tq

  • Wetterauer has two tuning stages for the 335d - stage 1 is 313hp and 466 ft-lbs while the Sportversion is 340hp and 488 ft-lbs. The latter has a top speed of 177mph (285km/h). Europeans get a bunch of really top notch diesels that North Americans know nothing about. It's too bad really.

  • My Chevy 2500hd 496/8.1 has 450 ft.lbs of torque. I'm DYING to drive one of these!

  • WOW what an exciting review, I like the car though

  • just buy the alpina d3 2000cc 4cyl twin turbo 215hp way better

love my 120d want 123d or d3 help

  • The 335d can be tuned easy cos its Turbo Diesel. A chip is gonna bring up the power big time.

  • just change the boost presures like the alpina d5

  • This is why i shouldnt watch this shit I only build race engines for a living a hemi. engine is a not even an engine its a head and it spark plug is centered between the intake and exhaust valve at a .90degree angle.

  • HEMI is now a brand name.. not what you're referring to.. in modern Dodge vehicles..

  • Its a dual plug head please dont comment on what you dont know.

  • Ram Hemi.. not a real hemi btw.. No hemispherical combustion chambers.. the word Hemi is just a name brand anymore.

  • Hey tuna what are u smokin look up the specs on th 5.7ltr HEMI then go back to the pipe.

  • Who said anything about the specs.. I said it wasn't a real HEMI.. not denying the power. None of the new "HEMI"s are real HEMI engines..

  • Oh and I guess top fuel dragsters are not hemis either.

  • If they're using the blocks from the new 5.7-6.1L Hemi engines.. then no, they're not, but since they're not using those, rather crate engines designed on older engines.. yes. You don't even know what signifies a hemi as a hemi.. stop being stupid.

  • A hemispherical engine makes it a hemi, are the new ones not hemispherical? I'm not arguing I seriously do not know.

  • as triaxle said.. its not really an engine..

its the head.. a hemispherical combustion chamber is what attributes the HEMI its name..

  • oh ok, I should have clicked "show all comments" cause I didn't see that one. My bad. Thanks for clearing that up.

  • The fact is if you look at a 5.7l Hemi's specific output: 66.6hp/l it is one of the worst in North America and maybe th world. Th total power of 380hp is a lot but it comes at a price at the pump. I know now you are going to swear and cuss at me. It happens every time a North American car is criticized.

  • This guy's narration is VERBATIM from the print edition. LOL!!

  • Go Diesels!! love my lil 100 hp TDI!

  • diesel for road tripping and crusing. yes sir. my wrx sucks gas alot. but it hauls assssssss. this is a good cruiser.. torquey and smooth and good motor. good tranny, good car.. this is a nice machine. handles well and torquey and pretty. nce and efficient. i like diesels alot.

  • a good rival is the lexus gs450h - to counter the diesel's fuel economy and a sub 6s 0-62

  • of course this car was praised, its a bmw haha

  • nice tail wag on the exit.

  • Wow, great advice.....borrow somebody else's like we did....? Nice

  • this car is great, but they forgot to mention one thing - sound, the petrol sounds awsome!

  • Yes it is a nice car, dont get me wrong!!!

But if ur looking for power go take a look at the 2009 corvette ZR-1....AMAZING!!!!

  • this comment has no relevance to the video, the ZR-1 is amazing but this video is on BMW

  • its a reply to someone elses comment!! lol

  • American Sports cars arent that great, i really doubt american sports cars they cost so much, and you get so little in return, foreign is the way to go!

  • lol what sports cars are u talking about? The Corvette's base price is 40 grand and u get well over 400hp with equal torque, great handling, and lightweight. The corvette Z06 and ZR1 are ligher, better handling around corners, and make 505hp in the Z06 and 638hp in the ZR1(which destroys just about every import supercar out there), and they still get 25mpg highway.

The Cobalt SS is faster than the R32, lighter, costs 5 grand less, and is MUCH cheaper to maintain.

    Need i say more?? lol

  • yea tell us how shitty the build quality is and how ugly american sports cars are. only buy american if you want something classic like an old restored muscle car.

but i think they are getting better...as they scramble to avoid going under...

  • My 2007 Corvette already has 37,000 miles without one single issue, no rattles or anything like that. My father's best friend has a 2005 Corvette with over 100,000 miles on it because he's a salesman and travels all over the country. Other than basic scheduled service he's had no problems either. His Vette doesn't rattle as well. I've driven mostly American cars my whole life & I couldn't be happier. For the most part, all the new cars are really nice & much better built. American or otherwise

  • You really havent looked at any new model GM cars have u? So u think the Camaro, the ZR1, The Challenger, etc. are all ugly right? lol dont kid urself. Your probably one who likes the BMW M Coupe too lol

  • oh u mean the ones they made as they scrambled to salvage their companies...sure, like i said, they're getting better in desperation. the camaro and challenger are good looking cuz they look like old muscle cars, but the zr1 interior still makes me sick to my stomach. say wut u want about foreign cars, but those american cars u like so much are only getting better because they're sick of being the ass of every joke...they are only getting better because every1 was making fun of them.

  • Cobalt SS faster than R32 what.. surely you're not referring to the Skyline.. really?

The ZR1 hardly 'destroys' anything.. it makes it around Nurburging a little bit quicker than the GTR.. a matter of less than 10 seconds.

    Lets put it this way..

    Corvette<Z06<ZR1

    GTR<V-Spec<V-Spec II<Nur Spec..

The Corvette is the admiral of the failfleet, All aboard the failboat!

  • not the skyline, the VW Golf R32.....and you dont think a 10 sec difference is destroying something? Its faster than the 599 GTB, the 911 GT2, just as fast as the Lambo Mercialago LP640, and costs hundreds of thousands less....how could that possibly fail?? lol

  • Well as for the R32 not being faster than the SS.. bullshit, the SS S/C maybe.. but not the standard SS, even still you're paying for qualtiy, kind of insulting to compare the new generation cavalier to an AWD Hot Hatch.. As for the 10 seconds.. if it were even 10 Seconds.. yeah sure, buts its not.. more like 4, don't care what anyone has discrepancies about, thats what I've seen and Im goin with it "stock" GTR or not. It fails because its a GM, shouldn't they be spending money elsewhere??

  • obviously im not talking about the regular so called "SS", which is really nothing more than a 2.4l LT model with a slightly stiffer suspension. I was actually talking about the SS T/C, but yeah, i think the SS S/c would probbably be slightly quicker too. And, "New gen cavalier or not, it's still faster than the R32, Mustang GT, and the SS T/C has times just barely short of STi's and Evo's. LOL and it fails b/c its GM?? In that case, Porche and Lambo fail b/c they cant beat a car 1/2 the price

  • Well the SS T/C is nothing more than a rental car with a turbo slapped on it.. cheaply built, its cheap for a reason.. you're paying for the lack of quality. Its times do not fall 'barely' short of STi's and EVO's because its at a disadvantage no matter how wonderful you think it is.. its FWD.

Yes it fails because its a GM.. theres nothing left there to be said. Porsche and Lambo are car companies with prestigee.. GM got lucky with the ZR1, itl'l soon be a thing of the past.

  • The ZR1 is a very new car, fast cool, but i already consider it old due to its horrible interior, its is cheap and horrible

  • do you buy a Enzo or a Lambo for its interior?? wtf!! lol. All you can find to complain about is its interior styling, just like everyone else...who cares about the interior when they are hitting 60mph in 3.4 secs?? lol yall are rediculous lol

  • lol wow, u are such a tool of the media lol. And how does its times not fall 'barely' short of the STi and Evo?? 5.4 secs to 60, 115ft 60-0, LSD, 260hp 260ft-lbs torque, 14sec @ 103mph 1/4 mile.....you look up the #'s for the STi and Evo X and see what u get lol....GM got "lucky"?? lol American car haters, what can ya do? lol....GM is known for its performance division...350, 454, 502 V8's....got lucky my ass lol, all they did was change the heads, the bore and add a supercharger to the LS2

  • great car

  • my wrx has none

  • did everything go upsidedown or is it just my computer

  • yes. it is YT playing april fools.

  • This would be a great car to do road trips in. The highway mileage would be excellent.

  • Great video : )

  • bmw are great road trip car

  • Wow
