  • To - @bgj27030

    Done? Many months.

Hope to have it drivable by the end of May.

  • why didnt u get the suppercharged conley it would look better and be closer to the real thing?

  • @MrChevy369

They don't show up on e-Bay often enough.

I got the engine about 10 years ago, long before I started this project.

  • @MrChevy369 dude , check out part 21 , now theres supercharged

  • is that one of those real working mini v8 motors if so where did you get it and how much

  • @spencerwarren77

  • what scale is the little ones?

  • @rcfreak363

    1/25th scale.

  • dude when is this thing gonna be done?

  • @dreadnaught6399

    Many months.

  • what did you use for the chassy tubeing

  • @kbernaldes

Carbon steel, I tried 4130 but was to hard to bend.

    3/8" tube with .035" wall.

  • @rcWizzard did you weld it or solder it

  • @kbernaldes

    MIG welded.

  • @rcWizzard Hey can u build me a gas powered Rc car please?

  • @vWBIRDWv

Why not get a RTR car at your local hobby shop. You can get help and replacement parts from them as well.

  • I want one of those little 1's u built

  • @vWBIRDWv

They're electric, not gas. Takes 100+ hours to build plus $250.00 in parts so they're around $2000.00. Do you have a PayPal account?

  • @vWBIRDWv

Did you see video Parts A through C. They focus on the Baby Monsters. Click on "More from rcWizzard" .

  • @rcWizzard man in 17 i wish haha. i wish there was a way for me to some how get one. if ur in california ill trade u some work

  • @rcWizzard that isn't nearly as fun, or rewarding

  • @rcfreak363

"What?" isn't nearly as fun, or rewarding.

  • @rcWizzard buying a rtr from the hobby store isn't as fun and rewarding as building a kit, or something from scratch

  • @rcfreak363 getting a rtr at the hobby store isn't as fun or rewarding as building something, or getting a kit

  • how much for the little rcs

  • @mtrsport1

Materials are round $250, not including ESC. Then 100+ hours to make. I like to get $20 an hour.

  • ru going to sell tha little rcs

  • @livefromthepast91

NO! I can't sell my Babies!!!

Did you watch videos part A thru C ?

  • what kind of metal did you use for the frame

  • @TheChevyman360

Carbon steel, I tried 4130 but was to hard to bend.

  • Looks like you Work as a Polytech..

The Axle are awesome.Done with a conventional Turning Lathe,or CNC?

Have you any Idea where i get some detailed Technical Infos about innards of a Monster Truck?

Since i have seen your great Project,i think about to do something like that, but in 1/8 or 1/10 as first Step.

    But only with a Nitroengine,your beauty of a V8 Modelengine has a proud Price.But its a Masterpiece..

    Best Regards from Switzerland

  • @RudeBoots

    Conventional Lathe, Smithy 3-In-1.

I would suggest the 1/25th Scale Model Kit shown in video part A. A very detailed kit of the Bigfoot Monster Truck. Search on e-Bay, AMT kit # is 8149.

    Thanks man.

    Good luck.

  • I am planning on making a custom sand rail in 1:5 maybe 1:4 with a 2 or 4 cylinder 2 stroke motor. I normally run Bajas and other 1:5 cars and have a custom project with a 2 cylinder water cooled motor in the last stage right now.

Do you have some pictures of the disassembled gear box?

  • @msaxtoft

Sure, I'll send you a few.

  • Thanks rcWizzard.

Who made the gear box for the HPI diff?

If you made it, do you mind sharing the drawings?

    Thanks.

    Regards

    Michael

PS. you can email me at saxtoft (at) mail (dot) dk

  • @msaxtoft

    I made the rear axle.

The drawing is a combination of a Windows Paint drawing with my hand written notes and measurements. I have not updated the drawing yet.

What are you planing on making?

  • Hi rcWizzard,

From where did you get the bevel gear and the pinion for the HPI baja differential?

    What is the gearing ratio?

Do you know that you can get the differential in aluminium?

    Regards

    Michael

  • @msaxtoft

From Boston Gear. 3:1 ratio. 48/16 teeth.

Yes, have the alum diff housing.

  • Just noticed its all beam axles in it. Doesnt the full size have independent suspension?

  • @austinpowers1977

No, most if not all Monster Truck have straight axles.

  • u need to git done with that damn car i want to see it runn

  • hey one of your little rc's would you be interested in selling one of them?

  • Make me an offer I Can't refuse.

  • well what i need to know is about how much did you spend making the rc?

  • Materials - $150.00 Plus Radio Electrics

Labor - 100 Hrs at 20 an hour.

  • all right, ima outa the picture...just a little to expensive for my taste.

  • Sorry man, Scratch built takes time.

  • methheads

  • were do u get the engine from

  • Used from E-Bay

    OR

    New from ConleyPrecision. com

  • amazing! great job man

  • i would have thought a good bit more but your the expert

  • that smaller bigfoot rep is awesome! would you ever consider selling it?

  • No, takes about 100 hours to make. I like to get $20 an hour. Some day I make another and sell on E-Bay.

  • damn because it looks really nice and it would go well with all the stuff i got

  • how much it cost u to get that engine

  • Used for $1650.00 from E-Bay. Check out the New Version at ConleyPrecision. Com

  • do you have any idea how much hp it makes

  • 3 or 4 HP.

  • how much would you charge for making a 1/10 scale one

  • 3k.

  • I think its amazing would love to see it complete and running. By the way do you have a regular job and if so what it is.

  • Yes, that's why it's taking so long.

Computer software tech. Install, train and support accounting software.

  • First video was June 2007.

  • wow its nearly benn 4 years

  • you should make a video of the little remote controls on this vid.

  • he said head lol

  • you should show dennis anderson this. I think he'd be pretty impressed.

  • He saw it in May 2007 at the RC Monster Truck World finals at his Shop in NC. I ran engine for him and his crew. They liked it.

  • how did you make the small monster trucks?

  • I used a 1/25th Scale model as a template. This little window does not have enough space to describe the process.

  • what did you make your chassi out of

  • Mild Steel. Not 4130 Chrome Molly, to hard to bend. 3/8" Dia .035 wall.

  • It will be Radio Controlled.

  • thought it wasnt really that big till he picked up part of the rear end im sittin here goin holy shit!

  • man i always love the bigger ones. i wish i could make a full size crawler rc so i could walk around it as it drives. thatd be cool

  • im going to make a 1/4 monster ,with a chainsaw motor , how long is ur gravedigger ??? and how did you get the

front and rear shocks please tell me

  • The chassis is 46 inches long.

I made the shocks on my Smithy Metal Lathe. Takes about 10+ hours to make each one.

    Good luck with your project.

  • that is the coolest thing ive seen in a long time were did you get the engine ?

  • From E-bay. Check out the new version at ConleyPrecision. com

  • hey how much would u sell a mini 1 for

  • There's $200 for materials, plus your ESC. And they take 100 hours to make, at $20 an hour. Still want one???

  • could u like send me a list of wat materials would be needed to make 1 i would like to try myself and just wondering hows the progress on the gravedigger

  • I had a list a while back but the hard drive with the document crashed and I lost it. It would take a while to look thru my receipts to make another list. You need to start by getting either the Bigfoot or Grave Digger 1/25 scale plastic model. You need that to use as a template to make the chassis, using music wire.

I got the new rear shocks made, need to make the resivrors. Now I'm working on a bigger heat box and vacuum box to make the rear body section. So it will be a 2 piece body.

  • Are you selling the small ones?

  • No.

  • Gosh that is so AWESOME !! I have always wanted to make a 4wd rc truck

  • Mr.RCWizard your work is awesome. But you know that of course. My question: What material did you make the frames out of, on your small crawlers? Also did you weld or solder? I have tried to make a small tubed frame like yours but have trouble keeping the joints together.Any possible videos or tips you might have for me on this? Thank You for your time.

    cobriete

  • Thank you!

The frames on the small "Monster Trucks" are music wire that most hobby shops carry. They are soldered with 4% silver solder and myriadic acid flux. To hold pieces together I used aluminum push pins on a wooden board. Then when it became 3-dimensional I used Iron wire to tie/hold pieces together to solder.

Don't have any videos of this but may have pictures I could send you. Shoot me an e-mail and I send some to you.

  • man i want one of those little baby ones xD

  • Hmm, would love to be able to find a place I can buy 1/5 axles and drive shafts, running gear etc. I dont like all the plastic stuff on the market these days.

  • your are amazing

  • Thanks Chuck!

  • Great work pal! the frame seems to be very precise built and also the transmission is a great work!

Let me the time to find the engine i got in mind and the right tires, the "mental drawings" and the power electronics for the clutch and steering are ready XD

but i don't wanna waste time and money on the differentials.. do you think it's a bad idea? (off road exclusively)

  • Did you read your comment before sending?

What's your question?? What Idea are you referring to??

  • my question is: Is it a bad idea not installing differentials? (i am refferring to my project, it is 4wd) i suppose that in an offroad model isn't obbligatory but i don't wanna find out that it is absolutely undriveable

    sorry for my english

  • If you'll be driving in Sand most of the time a Diff is not as necessary. But when you have any traction you'll spin out a lot without a Diff. I had a 1/4 scale Grizzly by Pacesetter, with a 23cc engine, it was frustrating at times because it would spin out as soon as I started to turn it. It had no Diff. What ever you make, it will drive/steer much better with a Diff. Good Luck.

  • will you sell one of the smaller rcs

  • WHAT, Sell one of my Babies,,,,, NO!

    Sorry man.

  • Dude, you've peaked my interest with this project so much, you better have lots of videos of the final product.

You are definitely a God. I just hope that Conley V8 is able to propel that huge truck well.

  • Thanks.

With a final drive ratio of 12 to 1 I'm hoping for torque rather than speed. I'd love to be able to pull a wheelie from a stand still.

  • Man I can't find an engine on eBay. Period.

  • Well, they're not a common item to find. Keep searching every so often. Sometimes you'll find one in a car, which means more bucks. You never know when 1 will show up. Good Luck.

  • Im starting on a project alot like this i was wondering where you got the axle/diff or if you machined it yourself. If you dont mind maybe you could throw down some figures too. Thanks Alot!

  • Yes, I machined the axle. The diff inside is from a HPI Baja 5B with a bevel gear machined to fit. By ,figures, do you mean measurements or dollars?

  • Awesome thanks for a response! machined the axle thats pretty serious. i like how you incorporate the baja diff i will look into that. i meant dollars as well.

  • Well the materials for the axle was 150.00 with shipping. Then the time to turn 3.75 down to 2 inches And machine the ends to fit the bearings and center diff bearings. Then the housing, which started out as a rectangular bar, 5 x 3.75 x 2.I did not keep track of my time but lets say 25 hours at $20 an hour (which is cheap)that's $650 if you can find the material. The HPI Diff is another $90. You might be able to find a machine shop, with mega machines that can do it faster and cheaper.Good Luck!

  • how much for one of the small rcs?

  • They take 100+ hours with $200.00 or so in materials, which include electronics. So in the neighborhood of $1200.00.

  • did you get any more progress?

  • I did another video Sat Feb 9th. Have not loaded on PC yet to check it out and upload. May upload tonight if it looks good. Did it out side so it should be clearer.

  • Sorry, my sister left her account logged in. Wrong username. lol

  • Thanks you, Mr. H. Hope you get it finished soon!

  • Does 1/3 scale exist? That'd be about as big as a car hood! Are you gonna show Dennis Anderson at the Digger's Dungeon? He invites people down there from time to time to race and such. My LHS owner (Sam Peters) took two of his trucks down there, and one won, and the other, if I remember right, made third. He know what he's doing. Wait, are you Sam Peters??

  • Not sure about 1/3 Scale, other than those GD Go Carts. I've had the 1/4 Scale GD to the Dungeon last May, for the RC Monster Finals. Dennis and his sons saw it. It was a Fun day.

No, not Sam. I'm Kevin H the rcWizzard. Dennis gave me that name.

  • I've seen other 1/4 monster trucks and they have steering in in front and back (if u know what I mean) U have a great project. the engine is absolutly incredible. I'll be waiting to see it working. Good luck and continue with the good work.

  • Is It Hard To Make It? And Whare Did You Get The Roll Cage?

  • Well, it's not easy, patients is a Big factor, and not giving up.

"Where Did You Get The Roll Cage?" - you mean the Chassis? I made it in my basement, with a hacksaw, a tube bender, a Vise and a Mig Welder.

  • Ya I Mixed Up In Those I Might Buy A RTR Wheely King RC Monster Truck, Its $165.00

  • when is these beast ready??? I woul like to see it working

  • That is a good question. I can't wait to see it working too! Scratch building something (meaning No instructions) always takes longer than you expect.

  • Good luck! Do you live in Roanoke, VA? That would be so cool! And the RC hobby needs more guys like you man! All I have is a Jato 2.5 and I wish I had a 1/4 scale something. I was seriously thinking about, after I get a job and make some money, making a 1/4 scale Rallye Skyline R34. That would be sweet, though I can't think of a decent gas engine, and I can't afford a Conley. Keep up the great work!

  • Man, how long before you think it's done? About six weeks, right? Are you going to build the Grave Digger shell from scratch?

Love the vids, by the way. Is this the first project?

  • I hope to have it Moving by May. But complete, meaning 4WD maybe a year. For the Body I have to make molds out of wood then vacuum the pieces separately and bolt/rivet together.

    I made a 1/4 Scale Honda 250R 4-Wheeler that was in RCCA Mag. July 1995 page 83.

  • Do U have any of Pictures of that 4 wheeler U could share ?

  • Hey there was just Wondering what kind of progress U have done sense video #3 looking way awesome so far !!

  • Have the front end attached now. Need to make 2 more shocks. May do another video this weekend, Jan 26.

  • i want one of those little baby ones :D

  • Curious as to what type of tubing and size was used to build the rollcage? Those little 1/25 replicas are cool!

  • Regular Steel tubing. 3/8 dia with .035 wall.

Babies use .078 inch music wire.

    Thanks.

  • i think that engine is going to rip the diffs up lol and where did you get the engine thanks

  • Well with a 12 to 1 ratio, maybe not. Engine is made by Gary Conley, bought from E-Bay.

  • cool cool

  • are you doing another diff in the front or just doing a solid axle?

  • It will be a rectangular tube, so the 1/4 scale servos can fit inside. I will make another Diff like the rear once I see the gearing will work well enough.

    Thanks.

  • have you gotten any farther?

  • Only a small amount. Not enough to do another video. Working on the front end. Holidays and work are slowing me down.

  • Getting there, I have been watching this for awhile here on youtube. What scale are those little RC's? 1/24? Are they even RC? I see Dennis Anderson signed the mini Grave Digger one! Electric right(the little ones)?

  • 1/25th. Yes, they are RC, The only way to go. Yes, electric. I may have to do a Video of just the babies. Several people have asked about them. Stay tunned.

  • hey Kevin great work, been waiting for a update :).

incase your wondering, I was the one who emailed you for help on the diff awhile back.

    Michael

  • Thanks Michael. I hope that Diff will hold up. Final weight should be around 70 lbs. I may redo the 3rd video, lighting was bad so it's not very clear.

  • how u build them i mean

  • A lot of patients. Read comments above.

  • u kno those small rc u build do they hav a small engine like the engine u gonna put for that big badass truck u buildin? u should make a video of those small rc u got and hot u build them. i wanna build one of those. it looks so fun drivin those small ones. do u hav any website or sumtin?

  • A small engine like the Big one,,,,, I don't Think so Tim. A video would be cool, but to busy working on the Big one. They are So cool to drive, 45 mins on one charge. The Bigfoot leans like a real truck. Still need to fine tune the Diff on the Digger. Web site is hometownDOTaolDOTcom/rcpage5/index dot html nothing fancy.

  • hey wat do you call those? haha those are really nice i like the small once.. is it expensive to make one of those?

  • Baby Monster Trucks. $150 to 200 depending on the electrics you use.(Time 100+ hours)

  • Hi when will it be finnished?.Hope you post the first running video

  • I hope to have it Running by May 2008. But, a painted body, 4-Wheel drive and Detailed, it could be a year or more.

    Thanks.

  • That thing looks awesome! Are you gonna make a body for it too? Or at least paint the frame green?

  • Thank you. Yes and Yes.

I've made a Vacuum Box so I can form body panels, the fun part will be carving the wooden molds. I have Powder Coating Equip but my oven is a bit small for this project. So I will have to have someone else Coat it Lime Green for me.

  • Sweet. It's gonna look sick when it's done! I bet Dennis Anderson would be proud.

  • it surely looks and sounds great driving...

  • Can't wait to see this thing go - how fast do you think it'll go?

  • I'm hoping for Torque rather than speed. The faster you go the more damage if you hit something.

  • that is wery cool. Can you make a video were you telle about the powerplant/motor?

  • Did you see my Other Videos? Click on "More From: rcWizzard". Also, read the other comments, you may find your answers there.

  • awesome, cant wait to see part#4,oh can you make a video of your rc model monster trucks and how you did .

  • Sorry, to busy working on the Big one.

  • thows little ones are cool to i whant to try making one can you give me some tips and what i need

  • The 1/25 Scale Model. .078" music wire - 6 feet or so. Silver solder. A Good Soldering Iron. Smallest ESC and Receiver you can find. Small Files. A Vice. Several Helicopter parts are: the Links and rod ends, 2mm screws, AND, a LOT of patients. Good Luck.

  • i want one lol cool
