Black Widows cannot kill you. Last death from a black widow was in 1963 and it was a small child. At the worst, it will hurt for a month or so around the bite area. I work with sider regularly, the Black widow in you case was only defending it's self. Most of the time, they will run away, but in a grill situation, they are more likely to bite as they feel cornered. No species of widow in the US (there are many) can kill a full grown adult. When in doubt however, capture the spider.

my backyard and around my house is full of black widows..u cant walk along the walls at night and u need a flash light because they make webs from the wall to the middle of the cement sometimes..normally ppl die if they have an allergic reaction to it..either by ur throat swelling up and u not being able to breath or heart attack..most ppl do not die. just get kinda sick.
