If you're a musician, or have a fine ear for music, you'll be the FIRST to notice that much of the music that is mainstream is simplified. Simplified chord structures, rhythms, harmonies, lyrical content, instrumentation, and so on.

"S.C.I.E.N.C.E." is indeed an interesting album, musically it ranks amongst their most dynamically agressive work to date, and amongst their most experimental (next to "...A Crow Left of the Murder" which ranks from my perception their best work and "Morning View" ranks to be my favorite). I still have mixed feelings whether if I like "S.C.I.E.N.C.E." or not; there's alot of excellent tracks off the album I know that much.
