What is up with Yod's build most Thai fighters from Thailand are really lanky but Yod moves up to 76kg (167.2 lbs) to fight at 5'7" (167.5cm) the man is built like a tank. With legs that big no wonder is round kicks are devastating. He can probably squat 600lbs (273kg).
uhhhhhh and why are elbows not allowed in this fight? You fight Yodsanklai to prove you are the best by beating the best. Why use the once-in-a-lifetime chance to fight the best Muay Thai fighter with kickboxing rules?
What do you mean when French say " LA LA LA LA LA..... " when Boxer get hit down or KO ? What's that mean ? I have been watch many French Muay Thai fights and they all say LA LA LA LA LA .......
contrary to many american's ignorance and prejudice of france...they've got a vibrant fighting culture. savate, boxing, muythai...you name it they're doing it.

To think Muay Thai uses only eight limbs is coorect. But using elbow in competition only causes cut to oppenent and ended the fight too early. A fight without elbows are more enjoyable to watch then a Thai fighter going for a cut on oppenent head trying to win from it.
Its not Muay Thai without elbows. Muay Thai is use of fists, knees, elbows, and kicks. It is kickboxing without elbows. No one can claim to be a MT fighter if they are fighting without elbows.
@jeff4704 ok I agree. But how to explain it to you...In europe we dont have that many good fighters..we try to keep them active. And also we agreed that elbow strikes are too dangerous and too lethal to be accepted in the sport. but Sometimes they do it also in europe. Any way if you are fighting a thai guy on home ground and you can make the rules. Maybe its a good idea to prohibit elbows, because if not...your fighter may get KOed really bad. Hometown makes the rules.
For being french I can tell you that on the professional level, elbows as allowed when both parties agree to it, obviously I see no reason why Wod would not have agreed to elbows, so i'm assuming that Farid is the one who refused to use the elbows...Oh well the result is the same, he got knocked out and Yod is the better fighter so...And by the way, no Muay Thai without elbows, otherwise call it Kick Boxing or whatever you want but certainly not Muay Thai. Personally, Farid fought poorly here.
I don't understand why they would arrange the fight with no elbows. I'm assuming Farid's camp called that, why call yourself a Muay Thai fighter if you're too afraid to fight with elbows? Nothing wrong with that just don't say you fight MT if you don't.
Actually most Muay Thai rules matches are fought without elbows these days, outside of Thailand. There are a ton of MT techniques that are banned in the ring and always have been, not using elbows doesn't mean you're not a muay thai fighter.
Yes there is, same way that Kyokushin is a style of karate but doesn't utilize any number of traditional fists to the head. I agree that if you strip away too many techniques it waters a style down, but just taking away elbows doesn't make it not a Muay Thai fight, or a Muay Thai fighters.
well the thais do not accept muay thai without elbows.if you take one thing then its something else.its as simple as that.i fought some years before a guy the rules was without elbows for me that wasnt a muay thai fight.if they are so afraid of elbows let them use the elbow protectors.
Well I'm not the kind of person that thinks everything the Thais do is the right way to do things. Do you realize how many throws and holds are banned from judo competitions? Or Silat fights? I get real tired of hearing Thai sympathizers complain that the Thai fighter got "robbed" because they're too stubborn or shortsighted to adjust to different rules. Buakaw is a prime example. He started losing because people figured out his style and how to counter it, not because of some big conspiracy.
maybe he is loosing because he is not as thirsy for victory as he was in the past.dont forget that buakaw is a great fighter but in thailand he wasnt the BEST he is not a legend like samart sakmongol dieselnoi krongsak samkor etc.you cannot ban elbows in a muay thai fight because muay thai without elbows is not muay thai is something else...
That's just not true at all. There's so much more to Muay Thai than included use of elbows. Yes, that is an essential part of the art, but banning them for safety's sake in a fight doesn't mean that it's not a Muay Thai fight, because the rules are still so different from standard kickboxing. You're thinking too much in black and white terms.
Muay Thai is referred to as "The Art of Eight Limbs", as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. A practitioner of Muay Thai ("nak muay") thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight "points of contact," as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western boxing and "four points" (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts.
Look, everyone's real impressed with your ability to snatch information from Wiki, but you're doing Muay Thai an injustice if you think that taking away one set of strikes is enough to transform it into another type of fighting altogether. Muay Thai is more than just eight different striking agents; it's a way of training, a way of strategizing, little nuances that make it different. You could be right though, it is pretty one-dimensional, so maybe the lack of elbows does make it something else.
ok i assumed from what you said that your knowledge is a little limited so i refered to the most popular source.now if you go to my teachers grand master yodthong and grand master woody and you tell them about muay thai without elbows
they will tink''these farrangs are stupid''for last time you cannot ban elbows from a muay thai fight.even if you ban wai kru its not a muay thai fight.go to thailand and train there with the thais and then you will change your mind immetiadely.sawasdeekhap

I remember i saw an interview with yodsanklai saying that he wish to fight and beat the superstar buakaw, i believe that would be a fantastic fight.. yod and saenchai is my favourits south paw 4 life;;P.
he or other fighters get use to hearing it... doesn't matter where, it always gonna be "no elbow, no hit below belt... listen to me at all times, touch gloves.."
